"Today" - Jamie Harder - Family Stories

Happy Friday everyone!  Today I have a layout to share using the Family Stories collection ( I can seriously NOT get enough of this collection!!)

It has been a goal of mine to make sure that I get in my pictures from time and I am proud to say that I have been fulfilling this goal quite regularly now :-)  My daughters love set the timer on my camera, push the button and run back to join me for a photo…often we get quite silly photos that makes us laugh.  Taking the pictures has become a fun event for us and they look forward to it!  I love that!

I kept the layout quite simple..all it needed was a sprinkling of Teresa's fabulous embellishments!  I love the brads, the buttons, the chipboard and the die cuts!  It really makes scrapbooking so easy!

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope YOU are getting into your photos!!!

Family Stories Layout and video by Guest Designer Tonya Gibbs

We are so excited to have Tonya as our guest designer! She is a great designer and we love her video demonstrations!! If you do not know or follow her, here is more about her:

I am a versatile artist and love experimenting with new techniques and different styles. Because of this, I would consider my personal style to be eclectic. I can do it all - from Shabby Chic to Grunge,  digital to paper crafting, mixed media to altered art. I enjoy the challenge of experimenting outside my comfort zone. I let the art speak to me and dictate the style - rather than me forcing the style. I like that each style fills my need for creativity, but require different mindsets.

I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart Kenny Gibbs for 24 years. We have two children Brittany (20), and Brighton (17). I'm known in the crafty community as Psychomom. I know that is a bit unorthodox, but once you know me, you will totally get it! The name came from my son's baseball coach when he was 7 and it just stuck. I also enjoy photography, and own a small youth sports photography business. The name started from that business.

I am also on Marion Smith Designs Creative Team, the lead educator for FlamingoScraps.com, designer for TeddyBoo.com,  and a blogger for WeAreArtsyAddicts.blogspot.com. I love hanging out on Facebook Instagram, Pinterest, and Youtube. I also teach monthly Ustream classes on the first Monday of each month.

Today I would like to share with you a layout using Teresa Collin's Family Stories Line.
Virtual Diva Layout

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A few of the schools in our County put together an event called Bros In Bras where high school boys were dressed in a costume/decorated BRA to raise money for the Breast Cancer Society.  Here is a photo of my Son's bra that we decorated for this event...

There were 12 boys who participated, and the group raised over $550 that night. Each person had to write a paragraph explaining how their "character" was related to the Breast Cancer Society. My Son, Brighton, was the "Virtual Diva" representing Online Giving to the Breast Cancer Society.

I loved that the Family Stories paper collection had both masculine and feminine designs. I was able to capture the signature "pink" for breast cancer, but introduce some masculine elements to my layout.  I didn't want my son to be "too pink!"

I have put together a process video of me making the layout.

As I leave you today, I would like to remind our lady audience to get your yearly exams. "Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, exceeded only by lung cancer. The chance that breast cancer will be responsible for a woman's death is about 1 in 36 (about 3%). Death rates from breast cancer have been declining since about 1989, with larger decreases in women younger than 50. These decreases are believed to be the result of earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment."~ Cancer.org

I'm so proud of these boys for being a part of something larger than themselves.   This was a lot of fun, and for such a great cause.

Thank you so much for this honor to be a guest designer for the day.  I hope you have enjoyed this post, and look forward to your comments.

Guest Designer Nancy Damiano using Family Stories collection and a 1, 2, 3 photo challenge on her layouts!

Hi there! I’m Nancy Damiano from New Jersey. I'm married and Mama to one little boy named Nico + favorite Aunt to a little tribe of nieces and nephews. I love a good story (listening to one, telling one, or reading one), anything aqua and Disney World. Oh, and scrapbooking - I do a bit of that too. I am a Garden Girl over at Two Peas in a Bucket where I spend lots of time making scrapbooking videos for a series called Scrap Your Stash. I’ve been scrapbooking in one shape or form since 1996. I’ve always loved making stuff, but I guess you could say the scrapbooking thing really stuck. You can see more of my work on my blog at www.thepaperochard.blogspot.com.

I was lucky enough to get the Family Stories line to work with. I love the color palette and icons in this collection. It’s perfect for themed and non-themed pages. To make things more interesting, I challenged myself to create a series of layouts with 1, 2 and 3 photos each. Here are some of the layouts I came up with.

The first layout features a single photo. One of my favorite shots from our recent Disney cruise. This is the first page in my cruise album, so I kept it simple and to the point. I used a color blocking technique to highlight the photo without overwhelming it. What I love most about color blocking is that everything has it’s ‘place’. A photo spot, a journaling spot and a decoration spot. The row of brads add a pop of dimension to an otherwise pretty flat page. The glitter border gives it that punch of sparkle.

This layout is heavy on the embellishments. Two of my favorite things from Family Stories are the sequins and chipboard elements. Both of these elements are highlighted on this layout by lining them up across the side and middle of the layout. The sequins were held in place with a dot of adhesive and then sewn onto the layout. I love how they add color and shine to the layout. The chipboard arrows create a vertical visual line and the envelope cluster adds dimension to the layout. I placed the photos on a vellum mat so that the diagonal stripe background didn’t overshadow them.

My final layout includes three photos. There was a story here – about my son losing his two front teeth the day before vacation and I wanted to combine the two. I started with a stark white background and then layered all of the aqua and red elements from Family Stories that I could find. I think that while the palette is bold, it really complement the photos. The huge ampersand was perfect for the title and a journaling card tucked behind the focal point photo tells the story.

Once I was finished with all three layouts, I gathered my leftover supplies and created this card. The base is a file folder from the Family Stories line. I decorated it with bits and pieces of layered stickers, die cuts and a single button with an enamel dot in the center.

Thank you so much Nancy!! We were so excited to have Nancy as a guest designer today, we just love her style! Please leave her a message below and to see more of her work please check out her blog here:  www.thepaperochard.blogspot.com

Love My Sweet Pig - Jamie Harder

Hello!  I am excited to share my layout with you today!  I used the Family Stories collection to scrapbook these photos of my daughter dressed up as a pig.  No, I am not early for Halloween on this one (hee hee) her school had a "dress-up as your favourite Charlotte's Webb character" day.  She had hoped to be Templeton (the Rat) but I convinced her to be Wilbur since I only had pink supplies on had:-)  She ended up LOVING her costume...especially the tail.  I love the chipboard arrow to draw attention to that!

I used dimension dots on the "love" diecut for a bit of interest in the title.  The hints of pink in this collection were perfect for my pig page paired with lots of neutral colors to really help my pig pictures pop!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Guest Designer Jennifer Haggerty using Family Stories and Masquerade collections

We are so excited to have Jennifer Haggerty on the blog today as our guest!! Here is a little about Jennifer:

Hi I'm Jennifer and I'm so excited to be a guest on the blog today!  I am currently a stay at home mom to two beautiful children. My husband helps run his family's company here in Central Illinois. I've been a licensed dental hygienist for 20 years and occasionally substitute in offices as needed. I've been scrapbooking for 15 years and love trying new trends, as the industry is always changing.

First, I'd like to share two layouts I created with the Family Stories collection. This is one of my absolute favorites as I love the colors of this line! It is SO fun to work with!

I love layering all of the fun embellishments offered with Family Stories: from the die cuts, to the chipboard, brads, layered stickers, sequins, and enamel dots!

Next up is another layout using Family Stories called 'Loved".  The sentiments on the die cut and chipboard sheet are perfect for documenting the special someone in your life. And for me, its my husband Chris!  One of the things I really like about this line is the chipboard "people"!

Here, I layered the die cut pennants with a strip of patterned paper. I used my sewing machine to stitch through and then followed up with adding enamel dots, sequins, and die cut pieces.

Next, I created two layouts using Masquerade! I was so excited to find out Teresa was coming out with another Halloween line (its my favorite holiday!) Masquerade has the traditional orange and black colors of Halloween but I LOVE the purple enamel dots!

For this first layout, I used the die cut pennants to create a fun banner across the top corner of my page. I added in some of the decorative brads, die cuts, and enamel dots to accent.

On this layout, I used a repeating triangle pattern that I cut with my Silhouette. Some of the triangles are reversed images with the patterned paper being under the cardstock. I also stitched the edges of each with my sewing machine.

Here is a close up of the triangles:  I did add sequins to the very top and bottom triangles and stitched through with my sewing machine.

I love using small clusters of pennants on my pages. Here, I placed a few at the top, adding some gold glitter tape and one of the decorative brads.

Thank you for looking today and having me as guest!  I hope this inspires you to do some crafting of your own with one of Teresa's great collections!

Thank you so much Jennifer!! You can see more of Jennifer's work on her blog here: http://livethemoment-jen.blogspot.com/

Here's the STORY album by Teresa Collins

I am so excited to visit the Design Team Blog today and share one of my projects that I created using the Family Stories Collection from CHA Summer. The Family Stories Collection is one of my favorites and I think it really captures the feel of our crazy family. This mini album I am showing today has so many details, yet is simple enough to create that anybody can make it!

One of my favorite things to incorporate into my layouts and albums is foam squares. I cannot express enough how much dimension they can add to a page that would otherwise look flat. So, many times I adhere stickers and die cuts- and even pictures- to the page with foam squares.

The file folders add an element to the album that I love. With the built in page "flap" it really adds more space to document and add some simple detail.

I love creating page flaps using notecards from the collection. All you have to do is score the paper about 1/2" from whichever edge you want to adhere to the page and then place adhesive just on that section. Once you place it on the page it creates an element that would not have been there had you just adhered the whole notecard flat on the page.

Thank you so much for visiting the blog today and I hope you enjoyed the album!

Fall Cards Featuring Family Stories

Hello!  Today I have a trio of cards for you using the beautiful Family Stories line!  Since fall is in the air, I thought I'd use the season as my theme.  My first card features those great sequins:

I love the Family Stories sequins!  The colors are so pretty but not fallish in any way.  To create a fall look, I used a leaf diecut in the center of the pretty woodgrain patterned paper (Noted).  Next, I created a pocket using vellum and filled it with the sequins as well as some smaller diecut leaves.  I adhered it to the back of the patterned paper and wrapped some hemp cord around it.  I adhered the focal panel to my card front using foam adhesive.  To complete the look,  I stamped the sentiment onto a pink cardstock cardstock strip.  I added it to the cardfront along with some of the glittered aqua border.  To finish off the look, I added an orange button (Decorative Brads) with a bow over the hemp cord.

The vellum diffuses the colors a little but you can still see those sequins sparkle!

For my next card, I started with a brown card base and my favorite stamp from the Family Stories stamp set:

I stamped a row of the large flower onto the card front using Versamark ink.  Next, I splattered the card front with a little brown mist.  I diecut a tag out of the woodgrain paper (Noted) and stamped my sentiment on it.  Next, I diecut the leaves using rust colored cardstock and the aqua patterned paper (Notecards). I added them to my tag popping up the aqua leaf.  I added a few of the pink epoxy dots and a bit of navy twine as well.  After my tag was done and my mist was dry, I put it all together:

I added the ribbon first, attaching it with mini staples.  Next I added a bit of aqua decorative tape (Memorabilia) and a pink striped banner from the Family Stories Diecut sheet.  I added the tag last, using foam adhesive to pop it up.

I have one more card for you!  It's a fun and simple banner card:

I love the look of banners at the top of a card!  For this one, I started with a navy card base and added a panel of the woodgrain patterned paper (Noted).  I stamped my sentiment along the bottom with black ink.  Then I started on the banner!  The banner flags and anchor tag are from the Family Stories Diecut Sheet.  I punched them out and added them along the top of my card using foam adhesive dots.  I diecut a leaf from brown cardstock and added it as well.  Next, I added some embellishments- those fun orange epoxy dots and a pretty decorative brad with a bow tied behind it.  I finished off the look by adding a length of linen thread over the top, threading it through my tags.  I attached it with just a little bit of white glue on the outside corners.

I am loving the look Family Stories gives to a fall theme!  The colors are non traditional but still so pretty for the season.  I can't wait to use this combination again!

Today Layout featuring Family Stories by Dedra Long

The Family Stories Collection has a very unexpected color palette, at least for me. Pink, blues and oranges with some woodgrain thrown in for good measure. Phrases that are perfect for telling your stories for any family member. Girls, boys, grandparents, parents etc.

To bring the two photos together and make them more of a focal point I layered and overlapped two banners. I also took chipboard phrase stickers and paired them with the stamped "you are here" on the lower left and the stamped "hearts" in the upper right hand corner. Putting a piece of the chipboard stickers directly on the photo also draws your eye in, making the photos even more prominent. Adding the pink striped washi tape to the top and bottom of the layout balances the pink floral banner in the center.

On opposite sides of the photos I added sequins and enamel dots to move your eye up and down the layout. Layering buttons, brads, sequins, stamps and chipboard stickers will add texture, interest and dimension to your layouts.

Thanks for stopping by!

Family Stories Mini Album by Yvonne Blair

Hi everyone.  Yvonne here today with a mini featuring Teresa Collins Family Stories line.
This line is so fun, can be used for family, boy, girl, or day to day life.
Very versatile line!
The book is 6 x 8 1/2.  There are a lot of fold outs and pockets to give extra
"real estate" and places for journaling.
On the left page I cut a piece of black cardstock (8 1/2 x 4 1/4) and folded it in half, placed a decorative piece of Family Stories paper on the front.  This gives the opportunity for some hidden pictures or hidden journaling. On the right side I used one of the envelopes to create a journal pocket.
On these two pages there is a file folder tucked behind a decorative strip.
On the right side some extra black cardstock lends itself to create flaps and pockets.
This is a view with the flap folded shut.
Here we have a folded piece of decorative paper to create another pocket.
Following the diagonal line I cut the decorative paper to create a corner pocket for more
places to tuck folded cards and journaling cards.
On the left there is a pocket created by slitting the paper before I adhered it to the back of the previous page. It creates a seamless place that you can tuck more fun things.
Another pocket page with a file folder and picture mat on the right and
a border punch strip to create another place to tuck stuff.
The diagonal strip is on a piece of  5 3/4 x 12 black cardstock.  Fold it in half and create a flap the folds up.
Just some simple embellishing with some room for pictures.

Hope you enjoyed this mini.  I am trying to get a video done to show some of the fun features of this album so keep your eyes open for that.
Supplies used:
Family Stories papers, die cut border strips, chipboard embellishments, file folders, decorative brads, envelopes, epoxy dots, die cut sheets.  Also doilies, TC Xyron Mega Runner, Scor-tape, Glossy Accents, Studio Matte Medium and pop dots.
