Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

William Ernest Henley (1849–1903)

My friend asked whether we thought he was boyish. Come to think of it.. I think I'm the female equivalent. I feel young.. like I haven't learnt enough, experienced enough. I feel like I'm ready but I'm also not. Bah.

I think I've also been too accustomed to my comfort zone. I've forgotten how to make conversation and talk to new people, which kinda sucks. Especially when I enter work, everything and everyone is going to be new! *FAINTS* Maybe I should do volunteering or something like that while on the job hunt. note to self.

Books to get: 1984, Half the Sky (:

Last Saturday, I was in the coffeeshop with Pam, helping her order some dishes for her party so that there's enough food. We had to wait 10mins, so we went to a nearby playground and sat on the swings to kill time.

At the playground, there was this Chinese boy (about 9years) and this little tubby Indian toddler (perhaps 2-3?). The toddler was quite cute - his body wobbled when he ran, lol!

Anyway, this Chinese boy was quite mischievous. He was making little picks on the toddler. I think the final straw was when he threw a plastic cup which landed on the toddler's head [actually his aim was pretty good, the baby looked unfazed and it was kinda amusing]. The toddler's father came up and started scolded this boy rather intensely.

All of a sudden, the Chinese boy ran up to us. He then spoke to me,

"Auntie, what are you doing?"

I was so stunned, that I was speechless. I just stared at the boy. Wth, he called me AUNTIE?? I'm on a swing, in my berms and a t-shirt and I'm Auntie???

After my silence, he then asked Pam the same question, to which she promptly replied,

"You behave yourself!"

He ran off. The difference, lol.
