Back in Singapore, battle with a roach Wednesday, June 23, 2010 I'm back from Hong Kong! Been sleeping loads. Must be all those 5 sleep-hour days, lol! I'll blog about HK in the next post, 'cause certain things happened to me these past few things that are.. memorable, HAHA. I came back on Sat, had the biggest potluck dinner ever at Alex's house when I went for our band meeting. We went back at 1am, met again in church at 9am on Sunday for mass. Even more amusing is that despite large dinner, we were real hungry and at lunch at Yum Cha in Gardens. I think HK really expanded my stomach. Of course, for Father's Day, my folks and I went out for dinner, to Peramakan in Keppel. Super yummy Peranakan food. Super stuffed again, lol. Dad was so funny when he took more than 20sec to see his card wrapped with his dinner cloth (my sister and I lost that bet). Mon night, the IJ girls and I went to Syl's grandma's wake. It was the first time I've been to Singapore Casket and to a Christian service (for a wake). I thought Syl's grandma looked like a jovial person, and hearing the youngest daughter's memory of her mother.. she sounded like a lovely woman. That night, when I came home, I saw this HUGE cockroach on the porch. I thought to myself, "Ok lah, it's outside". I opened the front door, and went in. Decided to watch Anime while waiting for the heater. It was about 1am when I got up to get my things for showering. As I turned to switch off the fan, I saw this black moving thing on the curtains. "?" and that's when I saw it. That huge cockroach on the white curtains. Just when I was thinking OMG.. it happily flew. "OMG IT CAN FLY SHIT". I was really contemplating what to do. It was the biggest roach I've ever seen! It seems to me that the more you watch a cockroach, the more.. active it becomes. As I looked on, the roach climbed down the curtain, warily but swiftly moved across the front door (I was hoping it would detour outside, but alas.. ) and before I knew it, it was near my bro's and my rooms. That's when I really panicked - NOT MY ROOM!!! It was more interested in my bro's room, but I didn't really want it in there either. After summoning some courage and urgency, I struck it with my slipper (weapon of choice). However, the roach was in a corner and my slipper was too big, so I missed it (it was in a crack between the corner of the walls and my slipper) Also, it was damn fast - it moved and flew to the other end of the door. At that moment, I thought of waking up my brother, but a loud, long snore quickly put a close to that plan. The roach then decided to crawl ONTO the door! Driven by fear and even more panic, I charged up and down my whole house, looking for the insecticide spray. Walked up with my noisy slippers, looked around, then walked back to my bro's door to check where the roach was. It just stayed still, strangely. I then repeated the process. I even looked in the fridge! I was thinking "Mei always uses it, where did she get it from.." I then tried to wake her up, but her door was locked - DAMN IT!! After a few more rushed strides, I said a short prayer, and common sense led me to realise that the insecticide must be with all the toxic stuff like detergent. I looked next to the sink - the green bottle of Baygon never looked so good. Armed with the aerosol, I went back to Coco's door, and looked at it. (Like machum showdown lah, rofl). After mentally preparing myself, I sprayed. It reacted immediately, and flew towards me! I quickly moved aside, and it was crawling real quickly across the alley, past the sofa, towards the altar. I trailed it and sprayed all the way. It then headed for the pile of bags opposite the altar, and I thought "SHIT". If it hides there, it's game over. Just then, I think in its confusion, it made a U-turn, and came out crawling towards me! I really let it have it. It then tried to fly but each time I sprayed it down. After a few more skips, it finally stopped, flipped over and spasmed. At last.. it was dead. I was trembling after the whole thing. and looking at the corpse, the idea of me picking it up and feeling its.. contours, was really not appealing. Plus, I did really want to shower (esp after all that drama!) and was supposed to call back Liv. Hence.. I put a stool over it, took a rough paper and a orange marker, and wrote in capital letters: WARNING: DEAD COCKROACH! The next morning, in the midst of my sleep, I heard my brother's roar: "What the hell is this dead cockroach!?!?!" I think subconsciously, I turned my head and fell back into my slumber. Hee hee :P Yesterday, I went to Selina's house to get my duffel bag back, and borrow some bags from her. I had a craving for the char siew rice from the nearby kopitiam, but they were closed :( I then went to buy porridge and lemon tea. When I ordered "ling mo shui" instead, I realised I missed it loads (amidst the aunty's baffled look and she 'corrected me' "ling mo cha ah?"). I called Selina "Where's your NTUC! We're going to make ling mo shui!" :D Bought the lemons, bought Magnum?! and headed to her place. I think.. we were pretty good, HAHA! :D Chilled for a while, then went back to join my sister and Dad for early dinner. We watched Karate Kid ("HAI-YA!!") which was pretty good (: A sweet end to all the excitement and horror, rofl! :P utter brilliance at 0220 in the morning :D Saturday, June 12, 2010 me: Woww.. spoken like a seasoned traveller! arrival form.. is it the one that says if i have anything to declare, that sort of thing? L.: uhhh no Sent at 2:17 AM on Saturday L.: its just to give details like your name, passport number, country of origin, citizenship, flight number (which means the plane number you are flying on), address you will be staying at (just write mongkok and dragon hostel), and purpose of stay (put visit) and sign OMG WTH HOW COME I CAN REMEMBER ALL THAT okay i totally freaked myself out me: HWAHAHAHAHAHAAA OMG THAT WAS BRILLIANT!!! LOL!!! L.: its scary!?!?!?!!!! Toa payoh Wednesday, June 09, 2010 I was in Toa Payoh with Mum and my sister. We were waiting for the lift, to go down to the carpark and back home. The doors open, and a man was inside. As I went in, Mum told me to hit the B1 button. I looked at the panel, and I didn't see any button with B on it. Hence, I immediately exclaimed, louder than I expected: "MUM! THERE'S NO B1!" The man just laughed man. Mum just smiled, and my sister was guffawing at me. ROFL. I guess it did sound pretty bimb, but I really though it was like those elevators in Shaw Tower, where some lifts only go to some levels. Ah well. At least i made some people happy :P To add on, earlier I was suckered by the Toa Payoh auntie into buying Aloe vera conditioner from Korea. $15 for a bottle. She was saying it was very good, then to my horror, she opened the bottle and literally shoved the stick to my face! I guess it was for me to smell, but woman! Scary like hell lah! Only happens in TP *shakes head* I've been sick, and just recovered. Blocked by my own phlegm, and trying to breathe. It seems a bit better now, though that sick taste in my mouth is still around. Quite irritated, because I'm in limbo - i'm sick, but not THAT sick. FYI! I'm going to Hong Kong for a short trip. From 14-18 June, leaving early on Monday morning. I'm quite excited, because I'll be flying by myself. Please pray for me! (: | |
