my internal battle with pride. Thursday, January 29, 2009 Pluggin' into: You Gotta Be by Desiree Pride seems to be the one thing that protects you. After all, it makes sure that you never back down. It enforces your beliefs and your values. It allows you to stand firm. It retaliates instantly upon being questioned. It makes sure you don't get bullied, and shows that you don't take shit from anyone. It looks out for your self-interest. So why does it feel so vicious? I don't think I've ever felt pride so strongly before, in general. It makes me wonder why. I am apprehensive about it. I worry that it blinds me from things, that it leads me to make hasty judgments on people. It makes me keep to myself. Am I just watching out for myself? or have I become jaded? On a brighter note, it's been a sweet chinese new year so far. It's non-stop feasting! I went with my family to Malaysia to visit my relatives- the road trips are quite fun and funny (: Came back and visited more relatives. It was a major boost to my finances too :) Speaking of which, I am proud to say, I worked within budget this month (: It's the hardest time, but I felt a great sense of achievement. The value of money. Thanks HL & Ali, my consultants :P Ser for support. Also to the cjc girls and friends, for understanding :) On the entertainment side, I'm now at Season 6 of Friends. Still hating Ross & Rachel, though she does get some good lines in occasionally. I watched the One with the Backstage. Man, making Friends is a lot of work! They have 12 writers, so as to ensure that constant funny lines can be churned out. A lot of interaction between the writers, the producerts, the casts & the live audience. Fantastic. I wanna have fun at work when I grow up too :P I'm still reading Long Way Around by Ewan McGreggor & Charley Boorman [it is a long way, HAHA]. I'm watching Nodame Cantabile Special online. I'm waiting for an early day in the week to watch Kamikaze Girls in school [yes, nus occasionally does have its perks] Oh yeah, just remembered - gotta continue generation X too. and check out that American writer in Life! today [ironic, because he just passed away.] He sounds very interesting, and man he's handsome in his youth (: Gotta blast. Battery consumption monitoring in progress :P Can't wait to be home. eye-opener. Friday, January 23, 2009 eye-opener. Pluggin' into: Angel of mine by Eternal/Monica Monica towards her Friends: "Judge me all you want. Married a lesbian, left at the altar, married a gay dancer, threw girlfriend's wooden leg into a fire, lives in a box!" Ending Season 4!!! Super excited. Which reaffirms that.. I really don't like Ross & Rachel *faints* I went to the National Geographic shop in Vivocity. Omg.. it is brilliant. It's like a mini museum! There are certain displays (which are on sale too) of structures and fossils, clothes & gear, stuff toys, plenty of great big books of fantastic photographs and write-ups, most of all the photo gallery is fantastic!!! :D I could spend the whole day there. It's really WOW. The photographs there are very powerful. There was this picture of 60 village men carrying a car over a river using sticks as support, which was rather ironic. Apparently this car could only travel in the capital, hence the sale. I loved this picture of this girl swimming in the clear waters. Fantastic. There was this photo of men walking across hot coals in Fiji, another picture of Japanese women divers settling their catch, and one more of Indian women balancing baskets of coals on their head - they were transporting the coals to the liner waiting for them. One particular shot was quite surreal - it was this black & white photo, taken in a large hall of a mosque, where a large group of Muslim men in the midst of their prayer session just stared at the camera. Another photo, taken in Mexico, where in bull-fighting, after dodging the bull, the guy on his horse grabbed the bull's tail. The face portraits were brilliant too - somehow.. you just could feel such depth. There are so many eye-opening shots.. it just made me realise how little I know about the world. What rich experiences. About my life currently: - Having a headache now from overdose of tv - Excited about new online shop - ULTIMATE YAYNESS!!! :D - Still unmotivated for school - I haven't done any readings at all. - Unprepared for Chinese New Year - I haven't finished buying clothes, but getting too tired - Unprepared for Malaysia - I haven't packed. Prolly tmr night. - Still quite broke. - Desire to travel. I'll keep on walking till the sun comes up.. Pluggin' into: Take Care by Copeland You know you're not ready for school when: 1) You get up late, despite setting 2 alarm clocks 2) You go to school to crash a lecture in the hopes of getting a level 4000 module, when you witness first-hand how packed it is and how long's the waiting list 4) You go to school, just to realise that the single lecture you're going for is actually canceled [you checked the module online, but the notice and date just didn't strike you] 5) When you get a lift to Chelsea Gardens, take 190 to go to Raffles Townsclub, forget to press the bell but think to yourself "It's ok, I can drop off at CJC", just to realise that the bus hits the expressway for 15mins and you're in Choa Chu Kang. 6) You get the numbering of this list wrong [I just changed it] 7) You're still bidding (yes, this late) for a module, and wondering which to drop and take 8) You're actually blogging about this. I'm so not ready for school. the brave one. Sunday, January 11, 2009 the brave one. Pluggin' into: Come What May by Ewan McGregor & Nicole Kidman. From Moulin Rouge I just caught this movie called "The Brave One" on HBO. It's about this radio dj Erica who has a good life and a fiance. They were both attacked by some thugs in New York City, and only she survived. She then decides to take things into her own hands and starts shooting criminals who happened to cross her path. Later, she makes friends with the detective who is trying to catch her. Love the plot. It's quite captivating. I especially liked the scene, where she saved this girl who was forced to be a whore by a pimp. The girl asked her who she was, and she replied that she was nobody. Later, in a turn of events, the detective unknowingly asks Erica to follow him to the hospital for a questioning, where the person is question happened to be this same girl. When he asked her whether she saw anyone, the girl looked into Erica's eyes and replied, "I saw Nobody (pause) and Nobody saw me." My sister caught this part really quick :) and man.. this movie made me a Jodie Foster fan. She is brilliant. Absolutely. She totally acted the part, and I didn't realise how pretty she was. I woke up with a headache, and went to sleep with one -_- Today was quite a wasted day. Got up at 12plus, went to shower. I thought the part where the guy wrote his vows on the beach was quite cool, so I thought of the MSN nick: vows in the sand. Then I thought, hmmmm. sounds a little short. My nick started from romantic, and turned into emo -_- I didn't wanna put in on MSN anymore, but I thought it was catchy! Entering 2009 - with plunge in $, but support of friends (: Saturday, January 03, 2009 Entering 2009 - with plunge in $, but support of friends (: Pluggin' into: You won't fall by Laura Higgins Well, I thought I'll blog about this, so that to make things clear. I'm broke. Like.. really broke. As what wing said today.. so broke that it's not even funny anymore. After paying off some debts.. let's just say I have a really small sum to work with. So.. I'll prolly go budget on stuff.. especially food. Which is especially hard for me, because I just realised that as the result of binge-ing, I may have developed a bad habit of eating. Crap. I just wanna say.. I'm really sorry, but that is really how tight I am with cash this month. I hate it. That I have to calculate change to cents, because of the knowledge that cents leads to dollars. That I can't round down or up anymore. That I actually have to think so much before buying anything. That going to town = spending $ = place of torture. I know we go to town because it's central.. but.. aside from hanging out with friends.. well, I can't stand window shopping. My policy is that if i can't buy it, then don't even bother looking. n on all levels, Town is Consumerism Central. That to such a large degree, the 'way of the world' actually applies - money is important -_- That I have to be so.. frugal. It's going against my nature. My god. The lesson of the year: SAVE. It's quite bad.. and it may seem and sound rather spoilt of me. but.. I ask for your understanding. I've never been in such a situation before. So.. if I appear stingy or like i'm asking weird requests.. sorry.. I'm just trying to sort all this out. Sigh. Well.. on the bright side.. QQ is there to encourage me through these hard times! ;) I love QQ (: 2009 started quite well :) After midnight mass with family, I had a funny conversation with jo, selina & dong. Later, I skyped with Sylvia :D That girl is so wrapped up, rofl!! I'm glad that she seems to be doing better these days. Jia you Sylvia!!! You can do it yes, you can! ;D Love ya babe!!! :) In the day, I went to get my bro from the airport with family - I'm so glad he's home :) In the evening, I joined the 3 at Selina's house, eating chicken wings [they're good! :D] , watching tv & videos and basically bumming around :P Then I had a very sweet happy near year call from a dear brudder of mine :) Hearing your voice always makes me wide-grin! :D Thanks hot stuff!! :) Today, I woke up early to watch that Ponyo movie with hl, ali & ser. I still think Ponyo isn't That cute and she's quite a clown *faints* Lisa, on the other hand, rocks :D The gals were sweet, as they tried to plan my finances. Thanks gals.. though it may not seem like it, I did learn a lot from you all :) We next tried Mission: Find Ali new sandals URGENT!!!, but alas.. it was a huger task than all of us could imagine. HL's tired face can testify! :P We met wing, jo & dong in centrepoint, where they basically had an Anti-Ponyo Bashing [5 against 1 is Totally NOT FAIR! :P]. Later, I met the 3 to hang a little more in town. and that's where QQ came in :) There were a bunch of guys selling balloons outside heeren, and there was this most adorable penguin one - super cute lah! Jo caught me staring at it. Later, when yt left, jo said she'll walk her out. We wanted to all walk her to her bus-stop, but jo whispered something in wing's ear and suddenly wing went "sarah, let's go see slippers." Later, when I asked wing what jo said, she said "Oh, nothing." -_- (liar!!) Next thing I knew, when I turned around, I saw Jojo coming up the escalator with the penguin balloon!! I was damn shocked!!! Like.. WOW!!!!! Really touched to the max. and that was how, upon closer inspection, we found out that the penguin had "QQ" printed on his left. Thanks gals.. it really means a lot to me :) Then Jo & wing headed to my house. We watched Tropic thunder while eating. Dinner rocks - nuggets, onion rings, cup noodles and leftovers. Homely :) Thanks friends.. for making the start of this new year so lovely (: I love you all! *BIGGEST HUGS IN THE WORLD* :D I better go sleep now. Novena to go to!! Yes..
