Result of today's studying. Sunday, November 18, 2007 Marx says that when you work all the time and become engrossed in it, you belong to work. In this manner, you are only yourself when you are home eating, sleeping, bathing.. in your animalistic functions. Hence, you are human when you are an animal and an animal when you are human. In this manner, you experience alienation, because you are alienated from life other than work - your life IS work. Weber says that rationality is prevalent in modern society, especially in bureaucratic structures such as companies, universities and hospitals. When rationality overrides values and beliefs, such as liberty and patriotism, it can hold dire consequences. You rationalise everything. You're doing things you do, because of some rational reason, not because you just "love it". The world is disenchanted (there's nothing intrinsically beautiful or magical or miraculous anymore - you rationalised everything. The stars are not beautiful or magnificent. They're just these luminuous balls of plasma. There are no constellations - they're just a bunch of stars together.) Thus, you are caught in the 'iron cage of rationality'. It perpetuates you and restrains you from doing things 'just for fun' or doing spontaneous things - it has to be rational. Otherwise, why do it? In this manner.. compare these to a life of a student. I am a student. I have to study to pass my exams, because rationally speaking, this will help me get a degree, which will help me in getting a job, which will help me get more $$$, so I can better sustain myself and my existence. Thus, I make sure I study a lot. I have to stop meeting my friends and watching tv, so I can study more. I study so much that I become in its essence, a student. I detach myself from everything else. I continue this meaningless path, just for the mere purpose of ensuring that I'll be able to survive and live well. After all, in the future, i'll just be working for the sake of wage. what does wage do? it helps me get more food and shelter - basic conditions fulfilled. Like an animal. Wow. Social Thought and theory does apply. Sweet. What is the meaning of life? insolence. I AM SO PISSED. I am so infuriated, that my blood is boiling. Literally. What's more, only the thought of a plausible heart attack (i've been taking in way too much junk food - all that msg, sugar and carbohydrates) made me forcefully calm myself down. That is scary. I couldn't believe it. The very insolence. I really flew into a rage. I have never been so wrongly accused, so wrongly treated and so utterly horrified with disbelief. Most of all.. I couldn't believe the absolute lack of gratitude. I was taken advantage of to such a large extent.. by someone who I thought was my friend. I was blind, I was foolish.. but most of all.. I was hurt. I dunno what hurts more. Bday celebration by Cj gals :) Tuesday, November 13, 2007 Pluggin' into: Suddenly I see by K.T. Tunstall This entry came a bit late :P Dedicated to Selina, Char, Jojo, Wing & Dong :) 12 Nov - Monday (Yesterday) I thought it'll be a day that I'll study hard. In the end, I got up at 12plus in the afternoon, barely touched my notes and ended up watching cartoons -_- I did do something good though - My sister and I helped back little goodie bags for Mum, who accompanied children of the Cannosian (not too sure of spelling) home to Malacca. It was quite fun :) I left home at about 5plus, to meet the Cj gals - Char, Selina, Jojo, Wing, Dong - at Raffles City. We went to Soup Spoon!!! :D :D :D I love that place.. the soup rocks!!! Especially their mushroom.. mmmmm.. :) I tried the Tokyo chicken stew with dong - it was quite yummy.. like home-cooked soup :P Anywayz, Jojo and Selina went off to 'toilet'. It was quite funny.. I didn't suspect anything, till I saw Jojo's cheeky grin when she got up, lol! ;P They returned with 2 boxes - one slice of chocolate cake and 1 slice of cheese cake - and a bowl of fried mars bar! :) [Is there a chippy's in raffles city??] The funny part was, they were each holding a burning candle!!! It was hilarious!! Then they were screaming "hurry up! the candle is burning!!!" :D They sang for me and we dug in. They were shiok!!! I couldn't eat much of the cakes though, cos I was quite 'jer lat' of cheesecake and chocolate cake (I baked the first with my sister for her, I got the 2nd from Nus folks and both cakes are still in my fridge) During photo-taking, they were asking me to take a close shot of the half-eaten cake with Wing. My gosh.. I couldn't take it - the very smell of both cakes made me feel bloated! :P Suddenly, I felt Char's hand slamming on my back of my head! Luckily Char's not as strong as she used to be :P I managed to avoid the cake-smashing and instead, both of us engaged in chocolate smearing, lol :D After washing up, sweet Char decided to drive us to Esplanade. It was the first time all of us were in a car and it felt really homely :) After much discovery of the roads in town, we made it to the Esplande carpark. The parking fee is damn ex la -_- Thanks gal! :) We also did some major photo-taking there, hwahahahahahaaaa!!! :D :D :D Miami Ink style! :P We headed to the roof-top, which had a beautiful view. They then decided to give me my presents! :) My maid went, "Another bottle??" when I put this in the sink, rofl :P I love this pouch!!! :D First saw it in Heeren :) Thanks loads!!! ;) This perfume is da bomb manz. I love the fragrance :) Can imagine all the sniffing u guys went through to finally decide on this one for me.. thanks lots!!! :) :) :)We then played games. Omg.. I haven't laughed so much in quite a while! First we played animals concentration.. which we subsequently changed to fruits, lol! We then attempted to play "mi mi mi re mi fa so me", which was absolutely hilarious hwahahahahahaa!!!!! :P My gosh.. all the nonsense we go through, HAHA :P We stayed till about 10plus, then we all headed for home :) Little pressies: This is from jojo :) I love the little heart pendant! Plus, she wrote one of my favourite passages!!! :) Thanks dear monkaaay master :)"He who dwells in the shelter of the Lord Will rest in the shadows of the Most High Say to the Lord my refuge My God, in whom I trust." - Psalm 91: 1-2 This is my pressie from Char! It's so pretty!! I love it! :)Especially the little black piece - "You're an angel of a friend" too! :) Char, Jojo, Selina, Wing and Dong, thanks so much!!! I really thoroughly enjoyed myself!!! :) More importantly, I enjoyed the time spent with all of you! Love you all!!!!! :) *Big Hugz*Birthday Celebrations :) Sunday, November 11, 2007 Pluggin' into: Deck the Halls :) This is going to be a long entry :) Monday, 5th Nov I should have put this earlier. Well, after logic tutorial, Char told me that Auddie wanted to meet us for a while. Hence, both of us sat on the steps in AS7 while waiting for that pantat :P Turns out, she actually was coming to deliver me a birthday present!!! :D Super sweet of the 2 la.. I opened it already and I love it :D Thanks loads Auddie and Char :D :D :D Cool :) :) :)Wednesday, 7th Nov - Thursday, 8th Nov Ij buddies! Refer to previous entry ;) Friday, 9th Nov During Gender tutorial, my group members Derek, Rebecca and Wan Yi gave me a card! Super sweet of them la :) I must say, they are one of the best groups I have ever worked with! Plus, we love to eat :D By e way, Selina gave me a new bottle! :) For those who do not know my history with nike bottles.. let's just say, I'm very prone to losing them :P My last bottle was black (also from nana) and I lost it on 95 :( Ah wellz.. thanks Selina! :D Bottle no... ??? :PWe then met up with Char to go watch movie in The Cathy! Super happy.. I haven't watched a movie in such a long time! We watched the Game Plan - it is HILARIOUS!!! :D My gosh.. Dwayne Johnson's facial expressions are super impressive la! Plus Roselyn Sanchez.. she was super hot as the ballet teach manz.. wa. After the show, we headed to PS to eat yummy ayam panaag. When I returned back to our seats, I suddenly see this sitting on my seat: ![]() I thought someone left it behind la, wth. Or like, char's or selina's, rofl. Apparently, it's for my injured bum, from my previous roller-blading fall. Thoughtful of them.. but their solution is.. quite unusual :P They made me carry that thing everywhere la -_- Even though it's freakish large and happy (i suspect it's the cousin of Spongebob Squarepants.. maybe it's spongeben roundface.. ok lame :P), I do admit, I feel like laughing everytime I see it. Thanks Char and Selina! :) Saturday, 10th Nov My goodness. My nus frenz Bao chuan, Moretta and TK came to crash my house. The thing is, these goons came at 9am. Plus, I was woken up by 2 long phone calls.. first from moretta, second from her mum. I only picked the 2nd call and imagine my confusion when I heard moretta's mum asking me for directions to my hse. Anywayz, after they so shamelessly caught me still in my bed, we went to play mahjongg. Man.. I lost quite a bit of $$ due to carelessness.. stupid "dong". Ah wellz.. I guess you learn.. and damn it, remember :P We also drank this rose vodka Moretta got from overseas.. quite an interesting taste. I still prefer vodka peach with my coke :) They got me this huge chocolate cake from Begawan Solo! It's quite yummy.. but i haven't seen such a huge cake in quite a while, lol :P Can't eat as much as I used too, heh heh.. They gave me these :) Clockwise: The Italian Job Dvd, an Astrology book and a little postcard :)BC had to leave early, so after she left, the 3 of us ended up watching cartoons and playing monopoly. My luck with this wasn't so hot either. Let's just put it this way.. I actually looked forward to staying in jail and letting the other 2 richheads compete among themselves :P We all left about 7pm. I went to Chomp Chomp to meet Selina, Mark, Dong, Jia Min dory, Rian and Desmond (Rian's bf). Man.. we really eat our hearts out! :D We ordered Hokkien Mee, Chicken Wings, Char Guo Tiao, Satay, Stingray, Satay Bee Hoon, Rojak! (let me know if I left anything out! :P) Mmmmmmmmmmm!!! After which, they brought out a cake from O bread - it's a champagne cake!!! :D It was for 3 birthdays - Yan Tong, Desmond and me! :) It was quite delicious.. even though it had raisins :P Thanks!!! :D We left at about 10plus, because I had to reach home. My bro, sister and I then took the car and headed to Changi Airport, where we waited for my parents to come back home from Bangkok :) I played "I spy with my little eye" with mei mei while waiting (we were too early, rofl). Man, we were super funny :P As we waited for son to get the car, it hit midnight. For the first time, I was sung "Happy Birthday" at the carpark of the airport T1 by my family, lol. It was indeed memorable :) Sunday, 11 Nov - My Birthday :) Andrea called me on my hp just a little bit after midnight. My gosh.. she sang "Happy Birthday" to me in 4 different versions!!! (Normal, May the good Lord bless you, Chinese and Malay) Best of all, she sang so loudly that my whole family in the car could hear her loud and clear, rofl!!! :P She's a real clown la, hwahahahahahahaaa!!! :D :D :D Thanks loads andrea! I really miss you!!! Let's get together and hang out sometime soon ya! ;) Today was quite a slack day. Which is super shiok :) After going for mass to support my sister's initiation into the journey of confirmation (it's some ceremony they have in sec1.. which I think is really to reinforce collective consciousness..), I went with my parents to makan at Toa Payoh Lor 8 for lunch. That place has C&G food man- rocks my world :) We then headed to Festival Market in Hougang to do grocery shopping. We then came home, where parents went to take a nap and I had a mini movie marathon (I had to.. dvds due today! :P) I watched Half Nelson (which totally was a drag and a bore), Hustle & Flow (which was ok) and Idiocracy - this was pretty good. The idea is interesting.. it's about this Average Joe, who wakes up in the future to find humanity has deteriorated in intelligence and that he's the smartest guy in the world. Our whole family then went to Ma Maison in Bugis Junction, which has a Japanese-Western concept. We had escargot, caesar salad, pizza, scotch eggs.. I had this Burger Steak with cheese.. yum yum :D In my excitement, I forgot to take pictures -_- Nonetheless.. I really enjoyed myself :) Thanks Mum, Dad, Coco & Mei :) To the many lovely souls who send their wishes via sms-es, thanks loads! Really appreciate it! :) :) :) Thanks.. thanks for everything :) *MEGATON HUGZ!!!* :D :D :D Early Bday surprise by Ij gals :) Thursday, November 08, 2007 Pluggin' into: Home by Chris Daughtry Today is dedicated to my dear IJ girls - Hui Luan, Serene, Sylvia and Alicia :) Yesterday, I was doing gender project for the entire day. I'm the one collating all our parts, so it really took me quite a while to gel them together and ensure there was a flow. I only finished at midnight and by then, I felt quite zonked and was quite ready to hit the sack. I was thinking of going to sleep after watching my anime and ending my MSN convos with my grp mates and Alicia, whom I have not seen online for a long time and was delighted when she initiated conversation with me. I heard the doorbell rang. It didn't even occur to me who on earth would come to our house at that hour. Then, I heard someone knock. Usually, in my household, the person who knocks would just enter/ charge in. I was thus waiting for the sound of the door opening, but heard none. I went, "eh? *annoyed* " and swiveled in my chair to get the door knob. My next reaction was purely out of instinct. I opened the door and saw HL, Ser and Syl. HL was right in front, singing "HA-EH-PEE BERR-DAAAY To Ooouuu!!", Ser was clapping and singing along and had a big grin on her face, plus I remember Syl's cheeky smiling face.. and I went, "Oh shit." and I immediately slammed the door shut. It was rather hilarious. I didn't even think for a second la. My gosh.. I think the sight and sound of them overwhelmed the fatigued me. Anyway, as I heard the loud laughter and shouts of irritation, I typed to Alicia, "wth. The twerps are here." Apparently, she was decoy *faints* Despite whatever impression my reaction gives, it was really good to see them. My gosh.. last time I met them was for Sylvia's bday :P They happily dumped their things in my room and started making themselves at home, lol. Apparently, their decision to stay over was impromptu - they decided at 9pm and arrived at my house at 12.45am. We caught up with each other, easily entering conversation and banter and played a short game of Disney Uno (courtesy of Ser). After which, we cooked instant noodles. Man.. cooking is quite a challenge for us, aye? :P We slept at about 2 or 3plus. Later that morning, stupid HL knocked the door and entered my room, whining incessantly for me to get up. Next thing I knew, Ser and Syl entered my room one by one and started hanging about disturbing me and being basically noisy :P Suddenly, there's one more! Ali, who got up early just to come to my house, immediately plopped herself on the side of my bed and starting prodding me. And you guys say I'm grouchy in the mornings.. I wonder why -_- Bday Presents :) After we all eventually got ready, we walked to The Prata House for brunch. Yummy prata :) Then, we took a bus to Serangoon MRT and met Ali's brother! He has grown, lol :P By e way, once I boarded the bus, I held my Ez link in my hand and stood at the door, holding the pole. Next thing I knew, the sensor picked up my Ez-link! Hence, essentially.. I paid the price of one bus-stop instead of 4, lol :D We took the NEL to Dhoby Ghaut. As we walked, I found the route familiar - the way to Minds Cafe, lol ;P I just went there a few days ago with the Cj gang for Dong's bday, rofl. It was crowded, so we headed to Marina Square. After hanging there for a while, we then decided to go to Minds in Clarke Quay. It's more comfortable too :) We played this weird game for a short while, then played Ugly Doll and Bang! Super fun!!! :D Bang! is really cool.. strategic game ;) Good recommendation, Syl! We ate brownies and tapioca chips and drank ribena :D Bang! :) If you have any last words, say them now :PWe then went to Toa Payoh, grabbed some bread from Breadtalk and headed back home. Upon arrival, they all then told me to Spot the differences in my fridge. I found carrots, japanese cucumbers, salmon, breaded prawns, crabsticks, eggs, seaweed, mayo... and they exclaimed, "We're going to make sushi!" :D They even brought sushi mats, rofl! :P We fried the prawns, cut cucumbers, carrots, peeled crabsticks, had omelette competition and cooked sticky japanese rice. All in all, somehow, we managed to end up with quite a decent dinner :D I must say, it was great fun :D In the end, my sister joined us and finished up the sushi, lol. We were all bloated and full :) I then drove them. I sent Ali home, accidentally hitting the kerb along the way. After exiting her place, we basically got lost, haish. I should have done research first. Anywayz, after much discussions and racket, we found our way to Toa Payoh. As HL said, never has the sign "Toa Payoh" brought so much relief as then, rofl :P To HL, Syl and Ser, really sorry that I took so long. Ironic of a car, haish.. By e way, they told me a amazing discovery!!! :D My birthday is also POCKY DAY!!! :D :D :D I'm super happy!!! Check these sites out! ;) http://whatjapanthinks.com/2006/11/1">http://whatjapanthinks.com/2006/11/1 http://pocky.jp/cm/index.html">http://pocky.jp/cm/index.html (in japanese, but the topics and ads are quite cool) YAYNESS :)![]() HL, Ser, Syl, Ali, Thanks so much for a wonderful birthday celebration :) Love ya all!!!! :) *Big Hugz* Post no. 100 :) Monday, November 05, 2007 Pluggin' into: Everytime I close my eyes by Babyface This is my 100th post, using blogger :) Sweet. During my Childhood & Youth lecture last Friday, I met a friend who said something meaningful. Livia and I were talking about All Saints Day mass (day of obligation for Catholics). She said, "I think All Souls Day is more important. Like.. they need it more." [something along this line - u get the gist] The truth of it really struck me. After all.. souls do need prayers, especially if they're waiting for redemption. Furthermore.. souls covers a lot of people.. some of which, I think I know.. It's too late.. but I've decided, to go for All Souls' Day next time too. After all.. November is the month of lost souls, as according to Father Gerrard in church today. Speaking of which.. yesterday, he was talking about "spiritual drought". I've heard the term before.. and I think I've had a friend who was going through this. The feeling of emptiness. He was talking about as Catholics, since we do know this feeling, all the more we ought to reach out to others who are feeling so but might not necessarily understand it. I can't help but thinking that.. it's so much easier said than done. Moreover.. to me, the question is more of "How? How can I help?", rather than you should help. Somehow, it's so easy to say this, but so difficult to actually do it. I know I've gone through this before. It was probably in Sec4, when I was diligently going for mass every day. That was a trying period. Thing is.. I'm not too sure if I'm still in it. Perhaps spiritual stagnancy? I dunno. It made me reflect on myself. Lately, I've been doing things I dislike, procrastinating, picking up little but bad habits, doing unthoughtful actions and having thoughts that are not very kindly.. and it's all unconsciously done. In this way.. I find myself annoying. I better do something about it. On a happier note.. 05/11/2007 Happy Birthday Dong! :) Selina, wing, jojo and I went to Yan tong's hse for steamboat. It was totally homemade.. and super shiok :D It was nice to laze about.. plus, dong's room is super comfy.. I love her couch :) [fell asleep on it, whoops.. :P] I couldn't help but notice how close she was to her extended family. The way she laughed with her uncles and aunties, played with her nieces and nephews, interacted with her cousins, disturbing her grandparents.. it was real sweet. In her small house, was a warm home :) I also realised.. the importance of Chinese and dialects. hmmmmmz. P.S : I've started a food blog. Thinking whether I shld use blogger or livejournal though. Anywayz, look out for it soon! ;) bday wishes :) Thursday, November 01, 2007 Pluggin' into: Tell me what we're gonna do now by Joss Stone These days have been packed with school work and birthdays. To all.. I'm really sorry for the lack of blogging or the whole 'one-off' kind of blogging.. i guess it reflects my mind. Like, how it's rather drained and sometimes i'm just too tired to write. 20/10/2007 Happy Birthday Char! :) I'm so sorry for the delay.. This should have been up so much earlier!!! We went to Vivo to celebrate Char's bday at a pretty little cafe called Corduroy. It has a candy shop just next to it! ;) we shared tomato pizza, sausages and a chicken ham sandwich, and for dessert: chocolate royale, panna cotta, a chocolate eclair and a pink macaroon. Mmmmmm.. we then visited the candy shop. After which, we headed to Ben & Jerry's for Ice cream! :D Yum yum.. I love cookie dough :D Bday message coming soon!!! Many million apologies!!! Love ya loads, dear brudder of mine :) 31/10/2007 Happy 21st Birthday Wing! :) Last sat, we brought Wing to a little restaurant in Millenia Walk. The food there was not bad :D Very interesting and classy place. Yayness! :) After which, Wing decided she wanted halloween partying. So, after much effort, we made our way to Zouk. It was a real eye-opening experience, seeing people put in effort and really dress up! There were people who dressed up like the dead (dead school girls, dead surgeons, etc..), animals (cats, giraffe, etc..), ghosts (one person wore a white sheet and cut 2 holes!) and other interesting roles, such as Spartans and groove chicks. I loved the Chinese zombies - I felt it was in a weird way, authentically Asian. It has been a long time since I went clubbing. It was rather fun and brought back memories.. except this time, I didn't feel so awkward. Though my drinking capacity is still restricted, I think I have slightly improved (haha! :P) The music from 1am onwards was really good.. and it was nice just moving to the beat.. leaving cares and worries about school, friends, life.. behind.. Living in the moment, Dancing in the beat. Today, we met up with Wing again at Ice3. She was sick, haish. We passed her our pressies! Short, but sweet little gathering :) Also, I found out one of my ex-cathechism-classmate is working there! Real good to see him manz :) You're 21 now, Big Bird! WOO HOO!!! :P I've been rather busy with my church band friends. I guess.. I'm getting closer to them. They are a different group.. like, for one, most of them are older than me and are working full-time. To be honest.. it has taken me a long time to trust them. I've joined the band since december last year.. and I think I'm only starting to open up now. It feels good.. Praise the Lord :) Hope we continue to grow in spirit. By the way, I injured my tailbone. I went roller-blading with a few of my church band folks - Andrew, Becky, Raph and Angeline. It was great fun :) I love roller-blading/ cycling.. should do this more often. Exercise in these form of activities rock :D Badminton too!!! :D Anywayz, I was roller-blading quite fast, slipped and I fell quite hard on my tailbone. It hurts when I sit and when I get up now. So i don't think i'll be able to do sports for quite a few days :( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tailbone Exams are coming. Oh me, oh my. | |
