A Ride from Hulu Langat Batu 18 to Sg. Tekala Recreational Park

In less than a month time we would to going for a long haul cycling in a foreign land and certain stretches of the routes are anticipated to be hilly therefore we have to practise and get ourselves ready for the trip. Sunday, 8th May we headed to Hulu Langat Batu 18 to join a group for a ride to Semenyih Dam.
The ride was initiated by Johnny and the roll off time was 7.30am most of the bikes were either road bikes or MTB, there was only a handful of folding bikes.
The weather was excellent misty in the early morning, the traffic was fairly quiet and a beautiful kampong atmosphere.
After rolling gradually upward for 10km we reached the famous T junction to regroup and to decide where to turn Right or Left. And we ended up going to the right for Sg. Tekala.
Going towards Sg. Tekala is always more scenic that the "left" direction comparing to thev route to Genting Peras, there are beautiful scenes of the dam and its surrounding.
After about 12km of rolling along the beautiful dam of Semenyih we reached Tekala Recreational Park, rested for a while Jo had a packet of nasi lemak before we made our return ride.
I was sitting on the roadside contemplating whether to roll up to the "left" for Genting Peras after reaching back to the T Junction. I told Jo we will slowly pedal up if it's too taxing then we will just make a U turn.
After scaling up for more than 2km the sight of road resurfacing triggered us to give up the idea of going up to Genting Peras coupled with the noisy super bikes vrooming passed us. There will be a next time. Well done for some of my buddies they have managed to reach Genting Peres and there were 4 even more terror, they went even farther clocking a distance nearly 100km. Well done indeed. For the record we have completed only 49km on this day.

Revisiting Perez, Hulu Langat and Semenyih Dam

I love going to Hulu Langat for my bicycle ride it is safer if you compare to Genting Sempah .... it's with lesser vehicles and peaceful.

This time I had a chance to try a different folding bicycle it was a Tern Verge X10 belongs to Yong Lim and the bike is light and nippy.
It has been a long time since I last rode to Semenyih Dam and the first time I did it was in July 15 2012 with my Dahon Speed P8 organised by Sam Cheong. It was an awesome experience coming up to this part of the world. This picture was taken back then.
And this is the situation of the dam due to the severe dry spell encountered lately in Selangor.
These were some of participants who were took part in this maiden ride of mine.

I began to meet new friends in the cycling circle and learning a lot about bicycle from all these sifu, I am still learning....
The route of my maiden ride.
It is a must to reach to this boundary line between Selangor and Negeri Sembilan and it is known as Perez. Riding beyond the border to the town called Titi is even more challenging.I have tried once but came back to this point with a support car. See the story here.
On 8th March 2014 I visited Hulu Langat again and I like it very much despite it was in a dry condition. I wanted to see how severe the reduced water level was at the dam and then we rode to Perez to complete the ultimate point.
Some of the vegetations were burnt making the surrounding looking dry and bare.
We shall return to Hulu Langat for another lovely ride.

My First Time Cycling to Titi, Jelebu Negeri Sembilan

The group Photo on this day of 24 May 2013.
The preparation at Hulu Langat for a ride to Titi, Negeri Sembilan starting from Batu 18, Hulu Langat which is estimated to be a distance of 92km.

After a distance of 10km of cycling we reached a "T" junction and took a brief breather.

I always like cycling along this route it's so refreshing with lesser vehicles (especially lorries) as compared to Genting Sempah.

At last we reached the state border between Selangor & Negeri Sembilan, a place popularly known as Perez (officially is Peras). Initially I thought that was the end of the ride for this stretch and will head back to the "T" junction to ride on to the other side of it. I was wrong and had to proceed beyond the border to Titi. I took the challenge and making my first crossing beyond this border to a town called Titi.

3 said back to Batu 18 but the rest said "this way to Titi".
The initial ride from Perez to Titi was the best and most enjoyable it has a long roll of downhill at times capturing a maximum speed of 53km/hr. I had the thought of what will happen when we come back on this slope. I was the last one in our group everyone were waiting for me at this place and I thought it was good to have a rest here. Unfortunately no and had to proceed with the pedalling as everyone were hungry and thinking of the noodle at Titi. Pretty unfair though they waited and rested but not me.....

Some of the attractions along my ride to Titi.

My first visit to Titi.
I met these cute Malay boys they were such friendly and sporting kids...

The town of Titi  is a simple and quiet place comprising mostly single storey shops. There is hardly any shop more than 3 storey ...kind of a dwarfed town. Hakka is the main dialect so if you can speak this lingo you are at home.

One of the 2 shops we visited for food, this shop sells kueh kuih and amazingly there are so many types. Obviously we were fascinated by the spread so colourful .... buy buy buy and eat eat eat eat. After all we were hungry.
Suddenly this town was invaded by helmeted people and patronising their shops.....one thing for sure the people in Titi are absolutely friendly.

The colour and variety of these snack foods are truly amazing some of them cannot be seen in Kuala Lumpur. The selling price is RM0.60 per piece and the portion is generous.

Mike & Siew Kheong just couldn't wait to try the snacks....
This was the shop we chose for our break.
My cyclist friends were enjoying the delicious foods and drinks. We had a good time chatting and sharing our love for cycling.

My pick for the day. Yummy and satisfying.
As I have said the people in this town are very friendly, not only they served us noodles the lady boss helped us to arrange for a truck.
Within minutes this comfortable vehicle came answering our prayers.
Four bicycles were loaded safely secured and ready to ferry four senior riders....

These were the four who opted for an easier way out for the difficult stage i.e. Titi to Perez. We were very proud of this alternative plan ....brilliant isn't !!!! After all, we just want to have fun and I respect the rest who took the challenge.
Kenneth helping Daniella with her flat tyre.
A patch that did not work for her and had to abort her ride shortly after leaving Titi. Watch out for this Iron Lady she will surely be back.
My salute to these cyclists taking the ultimate challenge to cycle back the toughest route.
Tony our saviour who made easy our 23km ride from Titi to Perez. Thank you Tony (we will be back on July for your durian). We have another 22km ride back to Hulu Langat Batu 18 but mostly downhill ..... how wonderful.....

Beautiful Titi ..... I shall return.
