farburvur
Anya Kiel of Wisconsin, USA, describes her soft sculptures:
"Farburvur, my Etsy shop, is a collection of creatures, art dolls, objects, and other miscellanea. I love working with different fabrics and textures, picking up new techniques along the way and incorporating them in my designs. When I'm looking for inspiration I often reflect on things like symbology, folklore, and mythology. If I'm not in the studio or burying my nose in a book I'm at the park, out in nature, observing the world around me."

A nice video on Etsy by PBS
Brenda Abdullah recycles sweaters into new garments. |
PBS came out with a nice video on Etsy, shown below. They have several artists talk about the work that they do, giving special importance to recycling or upcycling the old into something new. They also make a good point in stating that Etsy allows artists access to a broad market, that art does not need to exclude that which is functional or available to the masses.
Many of our TAFA Team members also have the environment as their agenda. Garbage becomes the raw materials we forage for in our work. And, those selling vintage items also extend the life of something old, giving it a renewed purpose in a fresh home. "One person's trash, another one's riches."
You will find examples of both upcycled and vintage items in all of our shop categories. Explore the tabs at the top of this blog to visit our Etsy shops.

TAFA Team Etsy Pick of the Week: Button Necklace by Gilgulim
I love jewelry that is fun and whimsical, and this necklace fits the bill! Using folded fabric and buttons collected by her mother and grand-mother, Hagar Arnon Elbaz created this one of a kind necklace for her shop, Gilgulim.
Hagar creates beautiful, unique, planet-friendly pieces from her studio in Beit Shemesh, Israel. You can read more about her and see more of her work, by visiting her on the TAFA List, her blog, or on her Etsy site.
*Etsy Pick of the Week feature by Stacey Sharman from Peppermint Pinwheels. Every Thursday, we will post one item from a TAFA Team affiliated Etsy store. In choosing a Team member photo, we will be looking for beautiful, Etsy Front Page worthy photos.

TAFA Team Etsy Pick of the Week: Recycled Sweater Book Covers!
I was looking for something green for today's TAFA Team Pick of the week, St. Patrick's Day edition, and came across this cute paper-back book cover made by Emily Ugolini of Nothing But String in Southern California, US.
What if you don't want anyone knowing you're reading a steamy romance while riding on the subway? The perfect solution, an eco-friendly book cover!
This is a green product, in more ways than one! Hee, hee, hee!
You can read more about Emily and see some of her other amazing work with fine thread Irish crochet on the TAFA List or on her Etsy site.
