Dinner with Congressman Eric Cantor and the 7th District Republicans

Majority Leader Eric Cantor and his wife, Diana, whose birthday is this weekend. We serenaded her at dinner to celebrate her special day.

We ate ... and then the Congressman ate. After greeting everyone at every table, he finally got a plate of food and sat down to eat.

The Republican women were photo-bombed by Davis.  :)

Jennifer and Linwood Cobb, Susan Allen, Eric and Diana Cantor.

Some of my favorite young Republicans were at this table. Some of them I've known and worked with since they were CRs.

Speaker Bill Howell

Our dessert was delicious. We were told it was triple chocolate red velvet raspberry cake. It was scrumptious.

The Cantors always send everyone home after dinner with a gift. It was fun, it was great fellowship, and it was an opportunity to let the Congressman know how much we appreciate all his work in D.C. It was also an opportunity to thank Linwood for all his hard work as chairman of the 7th District which happens to be where my parents live. Congratulations to Chesterfield County Republican Committee Chairman Donald Williams for leading the #1 committee in the 7th District for 2013.

We missed Mike Thomas from the Chesterfield Committee -- feel better soon!

Eric Cantor's 2013 Republican Roundup #2 ... Susan Allen

My own personal signed copy of Susan Allen's book, "The Remarkable Ronald Reagan."

Mrs. Allen greeted Mike Thomas's granddaughter ...

... and then greeted Mike, a long-time family friend.

Still as popular, gracious, and down-to-earth as ever, Susan talked with, shook hands, and hugged hundreds of Roundup attendees throughout the day.

Today: Susan Allen book signing at Chestefield Barnes & Noble

Ronald Reagan was a remarkable man, and one person who would know that is Virginia's former First Lady Susan Allen whose husband George began his political career leading the Young Republicans for Reagan in 1976. Now Mrs. Allen has lovingly written about this man admired by many.

The Remarkable Ronald Reagan: Cowboy and Commander-in-Chief is a children's book but I am eager to read it for two reasons: 1) it's about Ronald Reagan; 2) its author is Susan Allen. They are both people I greatly admire.

Mrs. Allen and her book will be at the Chesterfield Town Center's Barnes & Noble bookstore this Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. For those in the Richmond area, it's a wonderful opportunity to visit with Susan for story time and to have her sign your copy of the book.

The Barnes & Noble website offered an overview of the book:
Ronald Reagan was a natural leader, well-remembered not just for his political leadership, but also for his warmth, kindness, dignity, and optimism. There’s a lot kids can learn from Reagan, about our country and about being good leaders and good people.

The Remarkable Ronald Reagan: Cowboy and Commander in Chief is a fun, colorful look at his life, from his humble beginnings as the son of a shoe salesman, to his years as a Hollywood actor, his service in WWII, his life as a rancher, and finally the culmination of his political career in the Oval Office. Ronald Reagan is an ideal role model, not only as a leader and former president, but also as a shining example of self-sacrifice and determination. The Remarkable Ronald Reagan is a treat for the entire family.
TLC Book Tours offered more in its assessment of the book:
The Remarkable Ronald Reagan is a wonderful new children's book about our great president and his big dreams in life and his great accomplishments as our Nation's leader....Written for elementary students, adults will also enjoy the walk down memory lane with Reagan -- and everyone will learn something new about this remarkable man! Look forward to seeing you there!
If you miss the Chesterfield stop on Mrs. Allen's book tour, she will be at the Charlottesville Barracks Road Shopping Center Barnes & Noble on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 11:00 a.m.

Mrs. Allen talked with the folks at the DC Fox News affiliate in an interview about her book. Also, be sure to check out her Facebook page for photos of various locations along the tour and updates about upcoming dates.

George Allen's first campaign mailer

"Conservative leadership, proven results. That's the George Allen we know and trust."

What's not to like about U.S. Senate candidate George Allen's first campaign mailer that was sent out statewide? Besides the photos of babies on the front cover, the four-fold brochure reminded voters that, "As Governor, George Allen made history by signing the first-ever parental notification bill -- passed through a Democrat controlled General Assembly. This landmark legislation requires a physician to notify at least one parent or guardian before performing an abortion." Legislators had been trying to pass that parental notification bill for 18 years in Virginia but it failed. Then Virginia elected George Allen ... and it became law.

It also reminds that Allen co-sponsored a partial-birth abortion bill: "George Allen earned a 100% rating from the National Right to Life committee while serving in the U.S. Senate. From co-sponsoring the ban on partial birth abortion, to opposing federal funding for overseas organizations that fund abortions, Allen was a leader protecting the sanctity of life. He also continued his efforts to empower parents, co-sponsoring legislation to prohibit taking minors across state lines to circumvent state parental consent or notification laws."

Conservative leaders endorsed him, such as Kay Cole James, his Secretary of Health and Human Resources as Governor, said, "As Governor and Senator, George Allen has always stood strong for Virginia families. He has a proven record of defending the rights of the unborn and we need his pro-life leadership in Washington, D.C. Please join me in supporting him."

Louise Hartz, former President of the Virginia Society for Human Life, said, "Please join me in supporting George Allen for the U.S. Senate. He has consistently supported pro-life issues and always stand up for the unborn. His conservative leadership is needed more than ever in Washington, D.C."

Former Delegate Tom Gear wrote, "As Governor, George Allen used his veto power to ensure a true Parental Notification bill became law. He stands firm when others may waiver. George Allen will be a champion for Virginia families in the U.S. Senate."

A March Public Policy Polling report showed Allen at 67% against tea party candidate Jamie Radtke at 4%, and wrote, "In a field that includes four potential primary opponents, Allen trounces."

Others who noted the poll included the Washington Post, writing, "... a new poll shows former senator George Allen in a strong position in the Republican primary." The Hill commented, "... the poll found Allen with a sizable lead among independent voters, 50% to 41% [over Tim Kaine]."

Last but not least, the Washington Examiner noted, "Though it is early in this race, the poll seems to confirm that Virginians are still eager to have George Allen in leadership."

George Allen weighs in on his family values beneath a picture of him with his wife Susan: "The family is the bedrock of society and the backbone of our economy. For generations, loving, caring families imparted to us and our forebearers the very values that made America good: individual initiatives, personal responsibility, honesty, hard work, compassion for those less fortunate, and of course, faith in God."

It's a good, solid campaign piece that is sure to impact those who receive it.
