The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) will benefit from a
fundraiser being hosted by former Majority Leader Eric Cantor and former
Florida Governor Jeb Bush later this month at the Jefferson Hotel in
Richmond, Virginia. The long-time friends will team up for the February
16th event that was first mentioned by Cantor at an event in January
(see Virginia Republicans look to the future).

Let’s raise the level of debate and the integrity of our cause
By Benjamin Dessart
While I normally do not give such articles much consideration, the editorial written by the Daily Caller and promoted by Tom White is the most appalling editorial I have read in my time engaged in conservative politics.
Not only are the accusations implied here heinous and logically flawed, they are written (and promoted) in the name of journalism. This article is not news. This article is not journalism. (continue reading here)

‘Daily Caller’ and Virginia blogger stoop to new low regarding UVa ‘Rolling Stone’ article
By Daniel Cortez
In my 45 years as a writer-broadcaster and political media operative, this remains the worst breach of journalistic ethics I have ever seen. I find the author and editors of the Daily Caller reprehensible to suggest, by inference through association, that the son of former Virginia Congressman Eric Cantor had anything to do with the alleged gang rape reportedly occurring at the University of Virginia in 2012 during a fraternity party.
In the past such acts of desperate yellow journalism were frowned upon.... (continue reading here)

New posts at LynnRMitchell.com ... come check us out!
It's been a busy morning at LynnRMitchell.com as contributors have published posts that we hope you will find informative and entertaining. Here's a sampling:
- Coming soon: Red vs Blu: Kurt Michael brings his new comic strip Red vs Blu to the blog. The characters are a take-off of the classic 1961 comic strip in Mad Magazine, Spy vs Spy: “The comic strip always featured two spies who are completely identical save for the fact that one is dressed in white and the other black. The pair are constantly warring with each other, using a variety of booby-traps to inflict harm on the other. The spies usually alternate between victory and defeat with each new strip.” Red vs Blu follows the same genre. Stay tuned as we prepare to follow their adventures.
- Andrea Oakes: Staunton's Best Buy celebrates 20 years in business: City Councilwoman Oakes recently joined Congressman Bob Goodlatte as they attended Best Buy Distribution Center's recognition of their 20 years as an employer in the city.
- David Karaffa: Augusta County supervisors will begin staggered terms: Supervisor Karaffa explains how staggered terms will work beginning in 2015.
- Eric Cantor: U.S. House schedule for April 30, 2014: What's going on in Congress today? Here's the schedule for the House of Representatives.
Pop on over and check out these and more as the day goes on. We've got the coffee pot brewing and keyboards are clicking ... stop by and sit a spell at LynnRMitchell.com.

Congressman Eric Cantor kicks off 2014 campaign with first ad
Virginia Congressman and U.S. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor has hit the ground running in the 2014 campaign season with an ad that was released Wednesday. The election spot focuses on how the Congressman is standing up for conservatives to repeal Obamacare and reduce spending while highlighting his efforts to create jobs and strengthen families not only in Virginia but in America.
Fundraising reports for this quarter showed Cantor raising $920,000 with over $2 million on hand while his primary challenger Dave Brat raised under $90,000 with only $42,000 on hand. Cantor's fundraising abilities as well as those of 7th Congressional District Chairman Linwood Cobb are impressive. That kind of leadership is needed as Republicans look to the future.

The compassion of Eric Cantor and the 'Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act'
The words of a little girl who fought a battle against brain cancer
touched one of the most powerful men in Washington, D.C. who continued
her crusade after she passed from this world.
Just before her death, ten-year old Gabriella Miller was asked in a documentary what she would like to tell U.S. leaders about the need for pediatric cancer research and she said, “Less talking, more doing. We need action.”
On Tuesday the U.S. Senate unanimously approved bipartisan legislation that had been passed in December by the House, and will now be passed on to the President.
Gabriella's comments came during a documentary that was filmed not long before the fifth grader's death on October 26, 2013. The video was seen by Eric Cantor, the U.S. House Majority Leader who was already working on a bipartisan pediatric medical research bill. He renamed it the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act.
On Thursday the Richmond Times-Dispatch explained the act:
The bill passed unanimously.

The video was seen by Eric Cantor, the U.S. House Majority Leader who was already working on a bipartisan pediatric medical research bill. He renamed it the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act.
On Thursday the Richmond Times-Dispatch explained the act:
The measure transfers roughly $100 million from the Presidential Election Campaign Fund — a taxpayer subsidy for presidential nominating conventions — to research on pediatric ailments at the National Institutes of Health. A few months ago Democrats opposed the measure, calling it a sham and a joke, because they were angry about sequestration — a brainchild of the Obama administration.Liberal bloggers had bashed Cantor, accusing him of exploiting a little girl. But they were wrong.
The bill passed unanimously.
Wiser heads prevailed, and the other day the Senate passed the bill by unanimous consent. Virginia’s two Democratic senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, championed the measure. (No word yet on what ThinkProgress has to say about them.) Cantor issued a statement noting that often “everyone is (so) focused on what Congress cannot accomplish that we overlook the good that can be done when both parties work together.” He has a point — albeit one blunted by the reality that it still took Congress months to set aside partisanship long enough to help find cures for sick kids. The Times-Dispatch concluded:
And Cantor was motivated not by calculation but by compassion.Compassion for a little girl whose illness touched one of the most powerful men in America. After the vote, Cantor spoke of Gabriella's impact:
“So often everyone is focused on what Congress cannot accomplish that we overlook the good that can be done when both parties work together. One courageous young girl, Gabriella Miller, inspired bipartisan action to help research, treat, and cure pediatric diseases and disorders. When people would remark that Gabriella was wise beyond her years, she would tell them that having a brain tumor means you have to grow up real fast. And so a 10-year-old girl was battling for more pediatric research at the same time she battled for her life.”Gabriella didn't live to see the bill passed but when her parents visited with Cantor after her death, they brought a bouquet of brightly-colored tissue paper flowers. Caitlin Gibson wrote in the Washington Post:
The flowers, which were collected by the thousands after Gabriella’s death, were displayed at her memorial service and intended to be distributed to people who could make a difference in the fight against cancer: researchers, legislators, nurses, patients.Fittingly, the flowers were placed in Cantor's office, a bright splash of color as a fitting reminder of a little girl named Gabriella whose short life, and death, will have a lasting impact.
