New Mixed Media Canvas class

Coming soon to LBH buffet!

Details will be available soon - you can create this cheerful and fun canvas in any LBH buffet!

You will use several new "Totally Tracy" stamp sets from Dare 2B Artzy and the new Tim Holtz Distress Crayons, along with other media, to create this happy, textured piece.  Lots of techniques in this class! I hope you will join me.

"Dare to Spread your Wings" Mixed Media Canvas

This is my latest class project for The Little Blue House. I created it on the reverse side of the canvas and the wood of the canvas forms a natural frame.

I used many mixed media techniques using Dylusions spray inks, alcohol inks, Prima Art Ingredients  and a few unexpected items!

I won!

Soon after I finished my Mixed Media Tree Canvas (see below), I saw Echo Park Paper's Project Challenge on Facebook. Since I had used "The Story of Fall" paper collection, I decided to post a photo and enter the challenge.

To my surprise, I read today that I was one of the three winners! Yippee! I'm so excited to win an entire paper collection - I chose the darling "Story of Christmas" collection. Can't wait to receive it. Thank you Echo Park! (Check out all their paper collections on their website here.)

Mixed Media Art Quilt Workshop

Join me for my Mixed Media Art Quilt Workshop at the LBH

 

You will create a lovely mixed media art quilt using your favorite photo and an easy image transfer as the focal point. Each quilt will be unique as you choose from a variety of fabrics, laces, papers and embellishments I will provide to showcase your image. Machine or hand sewing is optional.

(Note: I used a contemporary photo of my two baby grandsons but you could also use a vintage photo, or a wedding photo, family photo or portrait.)

“Creative Mediums and Studio Glaze” with Susan Tidwell

This month we will be focusing on and playing with some new artsy mediums 

from Imagine Crafts and Tsukineko. You will create a double spread in your journal 

using stencils, Distress stains and sprays, metallic and iridescent mediums, napkins and glaze.

Try products before you buy! I will explain their properties as well as fun techniques

and ways to use them on your projects. And, as a bonus, I will be demoing the new

Ken Oliver Color Bursts!

The new school year is about to start so do something for yourself! Join me for a fun and informative art journaling session on Tuesday Aug. 11, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. Don’t know anything about art journaling or where to begin? No worries! I will start with all the basics and teach you techniques and tricks that anyone can do. This will also be a good refresher for those of you who’ve done this before. We will create a journal spread from the very beginning using collage, gesso, paints, stenciling, spray ink, texture paste, stamps and more. I will also show you two fun ways to use photographs in your artwork.

Supplies to bring:

Art journal (or loose mixed media paper)

Usual basic supplies

Heat tool, if you have one

(2)  4x6” photographs - one colored photo of an object (this will be altered) or landscape and one headshot of yourself or a favorite person (this one will not be harmed)

We are changing things up a bit.  Join me next Tuesday for a Product Play Day (formerly Art Journaling Workshop)!  For those of you loyal art journalers, we will continue to play with products and learn new techniques. For those of you who are not art journalers, we invite you to join us to play and get messy! It is not necessary to have an art journal - we will provide specialty papers for you to work on.

This month we will be making creative "messes" using a new product from Ken Oliver Crafts - Color Bursts! These are very intense pigment powders which can be used in a variety of ways. Wait til you see these gorgeous colors and their unique properties!

I GUARANTEE WE WILL HAVE FUN!

Art Journaling Workshop

I'm back from a month in Albuquerque with my daughter and newest grandson. Time to get back in the swing of things here! I have lots to catch up on.

Next week I will be teaching an Art Journaling Workshop about Lettering and Journaling.  I will be showing different ways to include words in your journals and what to do if you don't like your handwriting. I will also share techniques for lettering.

This workshop is also useful for those who are joining in the new movement of Bible Journaling.  Learn some techniques for adding creative journaling in your bible.

"Family" Mixed Media Wall Decor Workshop

We've added another day for this workshop since several people were unable to attend when it was first offered.

Join me on Wednesday Dec. 10 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm to create this lovely mixed media piece. Using an acrylic die cut frame as the base, this project incorporates many textural techniques including VerDay paint, Gesso, Texture Paste and more.

A Christmas Play Party!

Let's celebrate the last workshop of the year by PLAYING in our journals this month. Have you been saving old Christmas cards but not knowing what to do with them? I will show you some ways to recycle them incorporating them into holiday (or not-so-holiday) artsy journal pages. 

Also we will be doing a Christmas Napkin Swap! Bring 10-12 cocktail size napkins to swap with everyone. They do not have to match. I will give you some ideas on how to use these in your journals and everyone will leave with an assortment of new napkins to play with.

"All About 3D Media"

There are many new dimensional media on the market now - texture paste, Whipped Spackle, modeling cream, Glitter Paste, dimensional paint, and paint writers to name just a few. Come learn their different properties and what to use when. We will play with lots of products and you can determine your favorites!

"Mixed Media Masters" Workshop

 Are you interested in Mixed Media but don't know where to start? Come join me at the "Mixed Media Masters" Workshop on Saturday, November 1, from 10 am to 3 pm (lunch included!) or Wednesday, November 5, from 10 am to 3 pm at The Little Blue House.  

Mixed Media is an all-encompassing term to define an art form that includes many different surfaces, media and techniques- the more “mixed”, the better.

In this class you will create a unique 7x24 home décor piece while learning some new tricks and techniques. You will use several different three- dimensional media to build up the surface of the acrylic “Family” frame. It will then be colorized using Distress Stains, Art Anthology Sorbets and the amazing VerDay Paints. No prior experience necessary- I will take you through every step and by the end of class you will be a Mixed Media Master!!

Resists are surfaces that repel water-based media and are a useful way to add interesting effects to your artwork.  This month we will be exploring various methods of creating resists to add to your "toolbox" of techniques to use on your artsy pages!

Basic Art Journaling Supply List

Dylusions Art Journal with a few pre-gessoed pages
Heat tool
Scissors
One or two paintbrushes (1/4"-1" sizes)
Black permanent ink pad (Staz On or Archival)
Black permanent pen (Faber Castell Pitt Pens in different sizes)
Non-stick craft sheet
White gesso
Decoupage glue (Mod Podge or gel medium)
