Flower Garden... ink on paper

Here's my new ink on paper work called  Flower Garden
It was completed over a week and was inspired by my garden.
This illustration also gave me the opportunity to try out my new carbon pen. (happy dance)

Cosmic Penguin

Hi all,

Hope everyone had a great Halloween. Here's some fresh work Cosmic Penguin. I didn't think putting penguins with astronauts would work but I'm happy with the way its turned out ;)

watching over you

A long, long time ago they used these to keep watch. A long time before the prying glass lenses of closed circuit television cameras peered down at us from brackets set above our daily doings. This might be older technology, but it still is the best.

Forty Great Things

Well, it's my fortieth birthday today, so I had to make a piece about that. I also took it as an opportunity for a huge studio clean out and art sale with a crazy 40% off for 40 hours. Originals, prints, etc. This also ended up being an homage to Star Trek (Khaaaaaaaan!!!!) since I am very excited to see that movie this weekend!

Ink & Mess nesting dolls

Here they are, the wee beasties. Hope you enjoy them. It was my first try on this particular set of dolls. I have another set at home from a different company, I'm hoping the quality of the finish is a bit better...less chips and grain marks in the wood. Any feedback much appreciated!

SFG Challenge: Shut UP

jeni_barnett
Jeni Barnett's exchange with an MD caller to her LBC phone-in programme.

I also had a nudge to participate as it's been so long. I was going to use my lovely dip pen to draw an 'UP' drawing but I got derailed by fury at this ignorant woman broadcaster encouraging parents not to vaccinate their children. For the back story visit my blog. I don't generally produce caricatures and so I couldn’t think of the convention for drawing a speech bubble coming out of a phone. If anyone can point me in the right direction for finding out these conventions I'd appreciate it.

Hello from Christine Marie Larsen

Greetings, everyone!

I am thrilled to be a new contributor to SFG and would like to introduce myself. I'm a freelance illustrator/artist from Seattle. I make my pictures with gouache, pen-and-ink, and the good old computer. More work can be found on my website and sketchbook blog.

This is a new pinball illustration and was inspired by some friends who have a fantastic basement filled with vintage machines.

Down came a spider

Some recent work for an article on the South African 'brain drain'. People are leaving the country for various reasons - crime, employment policies, rising rates and taxes - all the while feeling bound to the place by family, friends etc.

Can you see the web is the actual map of South Africa?

This one is for the inside, where the author admits the UK service levels leave much to be desired...

Apologies, Mr Steadman...

An illo for a caustic piece on Hunter S. The (dreadlocked) writer slates the legend surrounding the man, stating that his best work was Fear and Loathing, while the rest is pretty much forgettable. They wanted the trademark Steadman coming through. Did I nail it?

An Introduction to Ink & Mess

Hello all!

My name is Ink & Mess, I'm based in London, UK, and specialise in picture
books, 3D projects, old fashioned scraps and ephemera. To my delight I
have been welcomed to join the fold of all you hardened SFGers. That means
I am brand new here, I do hope you'll be friendly.

I've hugely enjoyed looking at all your submissions since I discovered the
blog some months ago, not least because it led me to individual blogs that
I immediately subscribed to the feeds of, and now are a staple on my
Reader. Now I'm really looking forward to being an active SFGer myself,
and hope you'll enjoy looking at my work too.

I'm currently working on a series of picture books called 'Sombre
Songbooks' based on the narrative and lyrics of my favourite murder
ballads and melancholy melodies (you can see them in full on my blog www.marielouiseplum.blogspot.com).

Ok, well I'll sign off now with a link to my website. Click the sick stick
man below to get through the wires to my little pocket of the internet.
Goodbye for now!

I drew up a few of these little cards yesterday...oh my goodness do I love to draw. I haven't had much time to sit down and focus lately- this was such a treat!

I Drew A Hippo

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
... and I had never drawn a hippo before. That calls for a drink at my house.

Click here for a closer look at the detail, or here for the whole back story. Good to see you guys again – it's been awhile. Some of you don't look familiar ... you, namely. And you. And that guy. But you're all still a fine-looking bunch.

The watchtower

My Nemesis

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
I imagine that when I die, I will be riding a bike, swerve to miss a dangling cankerworm – and run head-on into an oncoming bus. Following each spring, I wonder why it hasn't happened yet. These hanging caterpillars freak me right out.
