Crane Wife at Modern Eden Gallery

Hello all! I wanted to let you know about my latest work hanging at the very wonderful Moden Eden gallery in San Francisco, CA! I was lucky enough to be part of their latest group show, "Myth," and returned to a subject I find myself coming back to time and time again; the Japanese folktale The Crane Wife.
More info "behind the work" and purchase info here!
I didn't get to post about the opening reception back on July 14th, but luckily, there is a closing reception in conjunction with North Beach First Fridays on Friday, August 3, 2012.   The closing reception will be held at 403 Francisco Street from 6-9pm.

Mary Blair Day of the Dead

Here's my piece for
THE ICONOCLASTIC DEAD show with the Autumn Society!

We got to pick from real-life heroes (living or dead) to illustrate for our pieces.

I chose Mary Blair, because she was such an amazingly talented female artist who worked in animation! I am sure I am one of many women (and men!) working in animation today who look up to her in more ways than one : D

Billy Batson

I came across an interesting blog via Twitter a few days ago. The idea behind the blog, have artists re draw their favorite comic book panels, in their style. I liked the idea so much I thought I'd give it a try. So I picked up one of my many favorite comics, my trade of Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil by the awesome and inspiring Jeff Smith, creator of the Bone series.
Then the thought hit me. I love this book from cover to back cover. It's going to be REALLY hard to choose a favorite scene to re draw. But it didn't take long. One image popped out right away in the first few pages of the book. And that's the one I used. I never thought about it much but, this scene alone is VERY powerful and telling of little Billy Batson's character.
Hope you all dig.
God bless!

The Fop Sings! And It's About Jersey Shore!

Not since Bobby "Boris" Pickett's Monster Mash has a novelty song been this... sweet. It seems artist (and noted archaeologist) Owen Schumacher—who for the purpose of this article is writing in the third person—has recouped what would have been a lost weekend by elatedly recording his loving ode to all things GTL—namely, the epically catchy single, Never Fall in Love at the Jersey Shore! [Preview and purchase your copy today at iTunes, CD Baby or Amazon.]
Even long-time Jersey Shore fanatics Greg Gutfeld and the cast of Red Eye're psyched to the point of transvestism! So it's not just Owen on Hollywood and Vine!

What're you waiting for—a better Jersey Shore-themed novelty single?!

Oh, really? Oh—nevermind, then. You'll just be waiting a long time.
