Another Mother's Day Card

This one is based off of the ScrapbookSteals MCM #40 sketch.  It started with the Challenge Me Tuesday challenge on Practical Scrappers - use a word puzzle.  I decided to make a word search-type block for the sentiment.  From there, I searched through the MCM sketches for one I thought would work well with my size sentiment block.  I had the Silhouette sketch the letters (using black and purple sketch pens).  Then I filled in the purple letters with pink pen to make the pop.  I then trimmed the block, rounded the corners with my corner comper, and inked the edges with ColorBox charcoal chalk.  I decided to use Bo Bunny Jazmyne for the papers.  I don't love how the sentiment block color came out (card stock), but I love the colors in Jazmyne!  I cut the waves with my Creative Memories trimmer and inked the edges with the same ink as the sentiment block.  I then added the flowers from the Jazmyne kit to finish it off.  Now I just need to finish the inside of the card and mail it!

Mother's Day Card

Yup, I used my favorite MCM sketch (from ScrapbookSteals) for this card.  The papers are all Authentique Uncommon.  I added a little twine (Twinery) and ink (ColorBox charcoal and Stampin Up Basic Black), and I got this nice card for my MIL.

Amethyst 10 - Lake Date

I decided to do a second version of Amethyst 10.  This time I used a picture of my husband and I when we were dating (over 10 years ago).  I am working on an 8x8 album from that time period, and this is the second page in it.

Instead of doing the horizontal strips in the sketch, I went with the vertical look.  I love the way those look, and I found the love with the MCM sketch with them.  Since I had just done another version of one of those cards, I decided to use it on this page too.

I used Amy Tangerine (American Crafts) for this layout.  I added in a little twine and washi tape from Walmart (Studio G).  Under the title I have the journalling.  I don't think we are going to care too much about the details of the dates, but I thought I would write them down for our kids (and grandkids) in case they wanted to know (location, date, etc).

And here is the original sketch:

Awesomely Amethyst!

Another set of ten sketches from ScrapbookSteals is complete.  This set is the Amethyst series, and I actually have 11 of the 12 done (there were two guest sketchers that had two layouts).  And the 12th layout is mostly done, but I am "stuck" on how to do the embellishments on that one.  I think I am going to be tech-y and figure out how to cut something on my Silhouette, but it is going to take time to get that set up.  So, here are the 11 I have done, making me officially all Amethyst!

Cubbies Leader/LIT Gifts

My daughter has just finished her second (and last) year as an AWANA Cubbie.  Next year, she will be a Spark and get a RED vest (something she is really looking forward to).  I wanted to make something for the people that make Cubbies work, so I started to search Pinterest.  And I found this pin.  So, I then headed to our local dollar store hoping to find picture frams like she used.  I struck out, but I found some others I thought I could make work.  They were just a sheet of glass, backing, and two pieces of metal to hold it all together.  I decided to just use the bottom metal piece and tape the glass and backing together at the bottom to keep everything together.

I used a bunch of scraps for this.  The only full paper I cut was 1 6x6 of MME Fine and Dandy.  It was a great way to use up decent sized pieces from my stash!  I had to use some double sided tape to keep the post it notes on, but other than that, it was SIMPLE!

TPGCB #6 - Are All Restaurants This Fun?

The current challenge on The Paper Girls Challenge Blog had a picture to use as inspiration.  I know many of the ladies are picking the colors from the picture (greys and yellows), but I decided to "copy" the square pattern for my layout.  I use Authentique Uncommon for this one, and I cut out 2 inch squares from 7 different patterns in the 6x6 pad.  I then put them down on the paper in the 4x10 grid.  I scattered the pictures on this grid and then added the title out of American Craft Thickers.  I finished it off with two banners out of more Uncommon 6x6 (scraps from my February Authentique challenge page), a piece of white cardstock with the journalling on it, and two die cuts from Uncommon.  Fairly easy to do!

And here is the inspiration image:

So, after I posted this, I decided the layout needed something!  I decided to add some grey and black twine (from Twinery) to some of the squares.  Here is the "finished" layout :)

Amethyst 9 - "Youth" Group

I finally got these pictures from almsot two years ago scrapped.  The wonderful Kristy Lee gave us the prefect sketch this week at ScrapbookSteals.  I needed a sketch with one big photo and a bunch of little photos to remember my daughter's first mini golf experience (and youth group activity).

I used MME Alphabet Soup and Hip Hooray for this layout, as well as some AC Thickers and some twine and ink to finish it off.  I love mixing those two lines - both in the boys set and the girls set.  The colors are very similar, so they are really easy to use together.  Hip Hooray is more white while Alphabet Soup is more cream, but other than that they use the same colors.

Here is the sketch it is based off of:

Blog Hop Follow Up - WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT!

First, let me say thank you to everyone for your comments on my blog.  I am glad you liked everything I was able to create.  I tend to work on things in little pieces, often getting 15-30 minutes to work at a time.  I get quite a few of these little bits in during the day - like when I put my kids down for naps to make sure they are going to sleep or while the big kids watch a show.  I rarely get more than an hour uninterrupted even if my husband is home though.

Also, I plan on writing up a How To's Day post on the corner bookmarks for the ScrapbookSteals blog.  They are really easy, so hopefully there will be directions there in a few weeks.

And finally, time for a winner!  I created a Word document with all of my followers.  Here is the list:
Then I used random.org to select the winner:
And #41 is Michele Duffy!  Michelle did comment on the blog hop post, so she is the winner!
Michelle - Email me at stephaniesumpleby {at} gmail {dot} com with your address, and I will get a package of goodies out to you!

Now to work on my MWM/Take 12 page!  Have a great day!

I will give Michele 1 week to email me.  If she has not emailed me by next Monday, I will pick another winner.

Hop, Hop, Hop Along the ScrapbookSteals April Blog Hop

Welcome to the ScrapbookSteals blog hop!  If you are coming here from Michelle’s blog, you found the right place!  If you are just starting, be sure to check out the official starting blog post here.  One lucky person leaving a comment on one of the 8 blog posts for this hop will receive a $20 gift certificate to ScrapbookSteals!!!!

First let me share a little about the pad I got to work with.  I got the My Mind’s Eye Miss Caroline HowdyDoody 6x6 pad.  Honestly, on a computer, this didn't look like a line I would love.  I am not a huge flower person, and (gasp) the distressed wood is something I haven’t found a love for (yet – there is still time for me).  But I really do love most of the b sides of this line.  The greens, reds, and yellows are fun to work with.  They are the right medium between bright and muted.  And the flowers are definitely growing on me.  I did WAY more fussy cutting of flowers than I ever thought I would.  There are also a bunch of fun “striped” papers in this line that I truly do adore.   So, definitely give this line a chance!  6x6 pads are a great way to try out lines without investing a ton of money too!

When I saw the blog hop list, I got a little worried.  I felt like the weak link in the blog hop for sure!  And I know the other ladies are better scrapbookers than me, so I needed to do something unique – not just a scrapbook page or a couple of cards.  So, my wheels got turning.  First I thought about doing a wall decoration with a quote on it.  But, I didn’t know how I would work the product into that.  Then I thought about teaching my daughter.  My oldest will be starting kindergarten soon, and I know that the calendar concepts are something we need to work on.  So, I got the idea of making a sign of some sort where we could change the months, days of the week, and digits out.  I had an idea of what it would look like, but then I thought about the actual creation of it.  I didn’t want to be cutting wood, so my first idea went out the window.  Then I thought about the Boulder Innovations magnet boards I stole many moons ago.  I still had two left that I hadn’t touched.  I opened up my Silhouette software and got to figuring out a way to make that work.  I decided how big the letters and numbers needed to be so that they fit well on the magnet part of the board.  Then I got to cutting, gluing, and mod-podge-ing  my hands – I mean pieces.  Before too long, I had all of the pieces together.  Then I got to decorating the base.  I decided to go with the distressed look of the papers and just tare strips of paper.  I mod podges those to the base, and covered them with another layer just to get them good an adhered.  After that was all dry, I stuck the metal plate on.  Then it was on to decorating the bottom of the plate.  I decided to fussy cut some of the flowers out to use as a border.  Since cutting enough to cover the full 7 inches of metal seemed daunting, I decided to put some green paper in the middle, with a grass sort of look.  That saved my hands for sure!

And since I had a ton of paper left, I made a couple of cards using the wonderful sketches from Monday Card Madness.  I always get great card ideas from the Monday posts on the ScrapbookSteals blog.

MCM #67
MCM #74
MCM #68
MCM #79
Since I still had a TON of paper left, I thought I needed to create something more.  I saw a corner bookmark on a blog recently, so I decided to use the wonderful world of Google (and YouTube) to figure out how to make them.  Once I got started, I had a hard time stopping!  Here are five that I made using the MME Miss Caroline Howdy Doody papers.

Even after all of that, I still had a bunch pieces left, so I decided to do a layout.  I used one of Kristy Lee’s awesome sketches (what would I do without the scrapbooking ideas I get from the ScrapbookSteal’s blog?).

When I got all of that done, I thought I was finished.  But, then I saw the sneak peaks of the other projects for this hop.  So, I decided to put together one last item.  I made a mini album in the shape of tags.  The tags are two inches wide (so pretty small), and the book includes the eight Fruits of the Spirit.  Hopefully when I need to refocus after my kids have frustrated me, this little album will help me.  Each page is designed after another wonderful MCM sketch too!

And even with all of these projects, I still have 10 of the 24 sheets left untouched!

Now, before you move on to Kerys’ blog, I have a giveaway of my own to announce!  I have some “extra” goodies that I would love to go to a good home.  Some I bought from ScrapbookSteals and just ended up with too many pieces.  Some I got in swap boxes or as giveaway prizes that I just don’t seem to use.  So, I thought they should go to a good home.  To enter, follow my blog and comment about any of my projects seen in this post.  On random blog follower that comments on this post will win these goodies!
