Pop up Money Slot how to Using Balloon Popup Thinlit

This is the inside of the card I posted yesterday.
YOu can make any pop up by making a rectagular tube.  The left shows you how.  I made this one 4x41/2 inches but you could make it shorter or taller depending on what you want.  I scored it at 1 1/4, 2 1/4, and 3 1/2.  When you put glue on the top and bottom panel in the front and put it in the fold of your card, it makes an automatic popup like this.
I love the little slit or balloon stem die from Stampin' Up's Balloon Popup Thinlits  (Occasion catalog)  because it makes the perfect little slit for money or a check.

Have fun with it.

small giftcard snowman 4 panel twist and pop

There has been a lot of cards with twist and pop 4 panel cards that have been really cute- I did one for my workshop and everyone seemed to really like it. I did want to make a smaller version for a giftcard popup so I engineered it using the dimensions of the giftcard.
you can get 3 cards out of one sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 CS.- This is the inside of the finished card on the right. If you open and close the card really fast, he looks like he is clapping!

I have made this card with many different sizes but the basics of the mechanism is the same.

The base of this card is 11x smidgen more than 2 8/10  inches (1/3 of the 8 1/2) folded at 5 1/2 inch on the 11 inch side. (Long ways)

The pieces for decoration are as shown on the left. You need 1 piece 3/4" x smidgen more than 2 8/10 inches or so(width of card) 2 black buttons (this was a button punch but you could just use a 3/4 inch circle punch.  I took a 1 1/2 inch strip of tangerine CS and cut them by hand into long triangles to make a bunch of noses.  The big white curved white piece was for guideline for drawing the head of the snowman in the corner under the hat with a black marker.      The hat was made using black and red glimmer paper.  The base was 3/10 inch strips, the banc was 1/2 inch strips and the main hat was 1 1/2 inch tall.   I cut the piece twice as wide and cut it in diagonal to get 2 pieces. Make sure you cut the diagonal on the proper side, otherwise it will not fit (the glimmer paper is not double sided to be able to flip it).  The holly on the hat was a pack of pre-made stickers from Michael's.
This is the mechanism for the gift card popup.  I also sized this so that you will get the most out of a 8 1/2x 11 sheet of paper.  cut it by half  into 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inch piece then slice them into pieces a little bit smaller than 1 3/4 inches.  Score in half longways and at 1 7/8 from each corner make a pencil mark and make a diagonal scoreline. It should cross in the center.  The is the mechanism part.   I used a black sharpie to mark up one of my score boards so I can do this easily.  see below.

You fold the mechanism like this and put sticky tape on the triangular part on top and bottom and this gets put into the fold of the card as shown.  I eyeball it but lot of people like to measure it which is fine.
When you open it it should look like this.
Take the other strip 5 1/2 x 1 3/4 and score at 7/8, 2 3/4 and 4 5/8 inches as shown.
put the center of the piece on top of the center of the mechanism piece.
You need to put tape or glue onto the opposite corners- either left bottom and right top or left top and right bottom.  It will twist differently depending on how the glue/tape if put but it does not matter.

Then open the the piece to adhere the 2 corners as shown.

I added red gloves (hand cut from 2x2 piece of red carstock to fit) and glued it as shown to the 2 outer rectangle corners.
Pop the center out and you have the twist and pop card.

I attached money by putting on a little bit of tombow tape onto the wrist area of the gloves while it was flat and the money folds into the popup.  It was a fun way of giving money for Christmas.
This is how you mount the gift card- use 2 pieces of tape - scotch or packing works fine and fold them in half, place the first tape with the fold on the left of the center mountain fold and the second tape on the right of the mountain fold as shown on the right.

When you put the card on the tape it floats like this and looks like the snowman is holding it out.
If you want to give cash you put two tiny strip of Tombow monoadhesive on the base of the red mittens as shown- it is not terribly sticky and money can be easily taken off.
When you adhere the money- nice crisp ones would be nice- it folds up like this
It twists and fold flat inside the card so it does not show.
I made little pockets that holds the cards- they are a little too fat to mail-
I took some DSP 6 1/2 x 5 1/2  - you can get 4 sheets out of a 12x12 paper if you cut it carefully - score it at 3 inches and at 6 inches along the 6 1/2 side and 1/2 inch along the 5 1/2 side.-cut out the corner and one of the 1/2 inch tabs as shown on the right and then punch the top with the envelope punch to make a little groove to complete the package.
Enjoy!

My Conventions Swap

I have a swap with my upline's downline group and the requested was it be a full card that could be demo'ed at a workshop so this is my card.  Embossed the Coastal Cabana Cardstock using the new very "in" Alphabet Press EF part way as shown.  I am also in love with the Tape It set that mimics washi tape.  The tag from the Notable Notions set matches the Chalk Talk dies perfectly and would you not know it? My favorite sentiment from the Yippee-skipee set fits inside perfectly.  Stamp the tapes using Smoky Slate, Calypso coral and the sentiment using the same color markers adn cut it out.
The tag is stamped using Coastal Cabana too- better to stamp the sentiment and then center the tag image around sentiment then diecut.

Now I made a bunch of these ribbons copying the idea from page 152 of the catalog but the center was too much of a pain to make and I did not have the matching DSP in Coastal Cabana so I made my own.
You need a three inch strip and 2 inch strip of 1/2 CS strips with the Tape It image stamped in center- the side parts get tucked under so you can't see it anyway so don't worry.  Fold then in half and free cut them as shown.  Use multimono on each of the 2 block dots and fold over to make the ribbon body.  Use Glue dot to adhere the back part of the ribbon to the paper clip - the glue dot peeks through the paper clip, sticking to the ribbon body.  Use glue dot to stick on the button from Notable Notions set stamped in Calypso coral and punched out using 1/2 circle punch.  Just attach to the tag using the clip and mount the tag with dimensionals .  This card just feels so "summer" with its beach colors.  Love It!

Easy punched candy wrappers

Wanna see a cool trick?  I hate wrapping something and then having to stick something on top and I figured out how to make a cute little candy wrapper using any punch.

These measurements are for the Hershey's nuggets.  I took a piece of DSP 4 1/2 inches wide.  Fold in half so it is 2 1/4 inch wide- in this picture, the fold is on the left.  The height of each piece is 1 1/4 inches.  Cut to the dimensions shown later here.  (picture order got screwed up- sorry!)

The width of the band depends on the height of the punch because you have to slide it in to punch it out.
This is what it looks like after you cut the corners. I took a long piece and cut a bunch of them at the same time to save time making multiples.
Slide the folded band sideways into the punch the pull out the band through the punch as shown.   If the belly band is too fat, it is hard to pull through the other side of the punch like this.
Then punch the butterfly using only one side of the punch.  It is better to to the right of the fold than to the left- if it is too tight, it will tear as you try to put it together.
When you unfold it should look like this.    Now the mechanism:  Cut a slit on one of the butterflies from the top half way, and the other one from the bottom half way as shown with the pencil mark.
So you slide the one butterfly over the other as shown.
Here is the completed band- or a little ring- or whatever.
Slide in the nugget and a cute little party favor!   This is the dimension of the folded piece with the fold to the right.  If you are using thicker cardstock, leave a smidgeon more room because it will not bend as well.
T
You can do the same with any punch. This was the bat punch using the same idea. Thinner belly band to squeeze into the punch as shown.

When you unfold and put a little slit halfway - one from the top, another from the bottom and voila! a bat candy treat!
I was trying to make a point about how easy this was so I used a copy paper with the blossom punch.  Folded it in half to figure out the diameter of item you want to wrap and the left over becomes the part that you punch.
Used the Blossom punch to punch the flower, cut slits on opposite ends to tie it on.  It thought it would make a lovely disposable napkin rings for a wedding or any event.  What do you think?

Lynda's Fancy Favor Box Candy Dispenser

I had a medicataion dispenser a while back and thought it would make a cute candy dispenser as a smaller version but I wasn't sure how to do it so I sketched and thought about it and with  Valentine's Day approaching, I finally got around to putting it to paper and making it for my DH.  I wanted the box to be not too big and after couple of different trials found the Fancy Favor bag to be the perfect size.  This is the side view with the box filled with Reese' pieces but I think a lighter candy like taffy or something bigger would be better and would not spill out as much- although this was really cute.
I decorated the top with a topper using a DSP from More Amore.
You take the fancy favor die, diecut a piece.  One of the middle panel, cut 1/12 inch up from both sides and cut across the center as shown.  If you want to emboss the box or stamp on it, best to do it now.
When you put the box together it will look like this.
You want to make another sheet to reinforce the front flap and the bottom. Cut sae color cardstock 3x 2 5/8" and score a smidgen less than 1 1/2 inches as shown.
It will fit in like this but don't do it yet.

You need the side mechanism which will make this work. I tried several different methods and I think this is the easiest.  Take a piece of paper 1 at least 3 inches long by at least 1 1/2 inches.  fold it half along the long side. ( this is a scrap I had more like 3x 4) - in the picture the fold is across the top.  Cut a little wedge off the bottom about 1/4 inch and another about 1/4 inch away at the same angle as shown.
Put the whole thing- fold on top and the bottom taps hanging over as shown and circle punch - this is a 2 1/2 inch circle punch and punch to just beneath the a 1/2 inch mark.
Now you have the mechanism for the door.
Unfold and cut in 2
Depending on how much you want the drawer to open, you need to make the cut.  I thought about 45 degrees were good.  You score at the dotted line and cut 1/4 inch out so we can tape it down.
Put one of the taps as shown- this is the right side, (left side would be mirror image) put tape on both sides of the tab to tape down to the cover.  If you want a brad, ribbon or some pull mechanism in the front, this is the time to do it.
After you tape the mechanism to the sides and any pull mechanism for the front, I would put the reinforcing panel as shown and tape it down so the inside looks neat and you have a stronger drawer front.
Fold the mechanism in as shown and close the drawer.
As you open the drawer now the mechanism will catch and you have this adorable dispenser!

See mom?  all those years with my nose to the math books did pay off!

Enjoy!
