Technique Thursday

Welcome to a new feature on the Stamping 411 blog, called Technique Thursday! This will be a fun addition...we'll be highlighting a different technique every other Thursday. This week the technique I've chosen to show you is called Spotlighting. It's very easy to do, and the results can be fabulous!

Step 1 - Stamp your main image twice, the first time will be on the actual card stock you will adhere to your card, the second will be the image you will add color to and punch out.

For this sample I've chosen to add Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose and Old Olive ink to my flower using a Blender pen.

*tip - if you choose to use a Blender pen or watercolor, make sure to stamp your image using permanent ink, like StazOn.

Once the image is colored, punch or cut it out. In this case I've punched it out with the 1-3/8" circle punch.

Layer it onto coordinating card stock, and adhere it over the matching section of the plain stamped image.

Here's a fun touch I've added to this card. Using Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint, I picked up a little of the paint with my Blender Pen (a separate clean Blender Pen, not the one I colored with), and added some shimmer to the flower. It's tough to see in the picture, but the shimmer adds a special touch to your card.

Here's the finished card.

Measurements:
Card base - Pretty in Pink - 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" scored at 4-1/4" and folded in half
Layer 1 - Basic Black - 4-1/8 x 5-3/8"
Layer 2 - Whisper White - 4 x 5-1/4", textured with the Square Lattice embossing folder for the Big Shot
Layer 3 - Basic Black - 3-1/2 x 4-1/2"
Layer 4 - Whisper White - 3-3/8 x 4-3/8"
Punched flowers circle - 1-3/8" circle punch, with layer of Basic Black created using the Circles #2 die for the Big Shot
Accessories: Basic Black Satin Ribbon, Pretties Kit (half-back pearl on bow), Basic Pearls

For the next sample I used the Pocket Silhouettes set. I stamped the floral image across Very Vanilla card stock using Early Espresso ink. Then on a scrap of Very Vanilla card stock, I stamped the floral image again, but this time I inked it up with Stampin' Write markers in Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie & More Mustard. Then this image was punched using the 1-3/4" Circle Punch and adhered over the Early Espresso stamped image.

Measurements:
Card base - Cherry Cobbler 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" scored at 4-1/4" and folded in half
Layer 1 - Crumb Cake - 4-1/8 x 5-3/8"
Layer 2 - Very Vanilla - 4 x 5-1/4", stamp sentiment across the bottom
Layer 3- Early Espresso - 3-1/2 x 5-1/4", punch the bottom edge with the Scallop Trim Border Punch
Layer 4 - Very Vanilla card stock stamped with floral image - 2-1/4 x 5-1/4"
Cherry Cobbler layer under the 1-3/4" stamped circle is from the Circles #2 Big Shot die.

For the last sample, I stamped the image from So Many Thanks once in Pear Pizzazz on Whisper White card stock, then I stamped it again on a scrap of Whisper White card stock in Pacific Point. I then punched the Pacific Point version with the Modern Label punch and adhered it over the matching words with dimensionals.

Measurements:
Card base - Pacific Point - 5-1/2 x 8-1/2" scored at 4-1/4" and folded in half
Layer 1 - Pear Pizzazz - 4-1/8 x 5-1/4"
Layer 2 - Whisper White - 4 x 5-1/4" textured with Polka Dots embossing folder
Layer 3 - Pear Pizzazz - 2-1/8 x 2-1/8"
Layer 4 - Whisper White - 1-7/8 x 1-7/8", stamped with image from So Many Thanks
