Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Color Challenge SSINKCC33: Background Stamps Take Center Stage

Good morning!  May has arrived and this is going to be a crazy month full of kiddo activities (I guess that's pretty much our norm at this point).  With the start of a new month it's time for a new color sketch over n the SSINKspiration blog.  Since the 2015-2016 Annual Catalog is coming to an end I decided to use several items that are retiring so we can enjoy them while we can and make sure you remember to order those items you still want before it's too late.

I started with Island Indigo cardstock for the cardbase and then added a piece of Always Artichoke cardstock before my Whisper White card front.  On the front I used the Timeless Textures stamp set (so happy this set is carrying over to the new catalog) and Always Artichoke ink.  I used the Gold Wink of Stella Pen to outline one of the floral images for a little fun.  Next I took a piece of Wisteria Wonder cardstock and stamped the triangle border image from the Dotty Angles stamp set (retiring).  I layered a piece of 7/16" Natural Trim Ribbon (retiring) with some Island Indigo 1/4" Cotton Ribbon (retiring) and ruffled it using some Fast Fuse Adhesive and then added staples from the Mini Handheld Stapler.  For the greeting I used one of Expression Natural Elements (retiring) and colored it using the Gold Wink of Stella Pen and then attached it to the cardfront with a Fine Tip Glue Pen.

This was definitely not a color combination that I would have thought up so it was interesting to see how they work together for a fun result.  I like the addition of gold elements for a fun twist.  The other designers are sharing some great ideas so go check them out and then come play along with the challenge and share what you come up with!

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Blog Card Sketch Challenge: Really Good Greetings

Good morning!  After a whirlwind weekend full of Disney, fun, and running, I ended the trip on a redeye home last night and have just landed (boy I really need a vacation to recover from these vacations, but it’s back to work we go!)  It’s the second Monday of the month so over on the Stylin' Stampin' INKspirationblog it’s time for a card sketch.  I know I’ve said it before how much I enjoy card sketches as it allows you to change up your card layouts and really help stretch you creationally.  I really liked this month’s layout as it shows the On Film Framelits and love the photo look on cards right now.

I started with Smoky Slate for the cardbase and then added a piece of Pistachio Pudding cardstock that was embossed with the Big Shot and Beautifuly Baroque  Embossing Folder.  For the “picture frame” I used one of the extra pieces from the Hello Life Simply Created Kit (but you could also create one using DSP and the On Film Framelits).  For the “picture” I stamped the greeting from the Really Good Greetings stamp set (using Stampin’ Write Markers) and then used the Dotty Angles stamp set using Silver Encore Ink.  Next I wrapped a piece of Pistachio Pudding Thick Baker’s Twine around the “picture frame” and tied a bow.  The final touch was to add a little bling by punching out a butterfly using the Itty Bitty Butterfly Punch and then embossing it with the Big Shot and Fancy Fans Embossing Folder.  I used a blendabilities marker to color some rhinestones to attach for the body of the butterfly

The mix of soft color and bold black, which hints of silver are really fun and I was really surprised at how much I liked this card after I finished it.  The other design team members are sharing some great cards so please go check them out and then come play along and share what you create!

30-Day Gratitude Card Challenge: Day 17

I'm back again (I promised) to share today's gratitude card.  I like make quick and easy cards just as much as over the top detailed cards since they can still pack a WOW!  I subscribe to Stampin' Up!'s Paper Pumpkin subscription program (I love receiving different, predesigned projects in the mail each month, just ready to create).  A couple of months ago we received this fun card kit that had these die cut cardfronts and I hadn't made these cards so I decided to make this one for today's card.  I used all the elements in the card kit and just added the stamped polka dots using the Dotty Angles stamp set.

This is such a bright and cheery card and I love the added pink sequins, so fun!

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Stylin' Stampin' INKspiration Color Challenge: Everything Eleanor Birthday Greetings

Good morning!  We had a great weekend, the boys were at Cub Scout camp and had lots of fun adventures and I had the weekend to myself, which included an all day crafting day on Saturday with one of my BFFs (we're definitely going to have to do that more often).  My big project this weekend was trying to get everything ready for a birthday party I'm hosting on Friday, Chris and 3 of our neighbors are all turning 40 within a month so we're having a big party to celebrate these great milestone.  I made large cards for each of the birthday peeps for the guests to sign and decided to used this months Stampin' Stylin' INKspiration color challenge for one of the cards.

For this card I started with Crumb Cake for the cardbase and then added a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I used the Dotty Angles stamp set and Strawberry Slush ink to stamp along the left side and then took the Everything Eleanor stamp set and used the swirl image and Mossy Meadow ink to stamp the "leaves" for my flowers on the White Cardstock and then stamped on a piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock (to kind of mimic grass).  The Mossy Meadow piece was embossed with the Big Shot and Zig Zag Embossing Folder before attaching a piece of Strawberry Slush Thick Baker's Twine.

For the flowers I stamped three of the larger flowers in Tempting Turquoise ink and then three small flowers in Strawberry Slush ink on Strawberry Slush cardstock and then used Paper Snips to cut out all the flowers.  I used a Bone Folder to curl up the flowers for texture and then layered them and added little pearls to the center of the flowers.

For the greeting I used one of the new hostess sets, Let Your Hair Down (this is a really fun set) and I used my Stampin' Write Markers to color in just a portion of one stamp and then centered the birthday greeting (also from this set) in the middle of the frame.  I did use a Mossy Meadow Marker to add some little swirls inside the stamped image.  The final touch was to add a "40" in Champagne Shimmer paper that I cut out with my Big Shot and the recently retired die set.

I wouldn't normally pick these colors to go together but it was a lot of fun to play with them and they do work together, it's fun to get outside your comfort zone.  I hope you enjoy this card and check out the other great cards the designers are sharing and come play along with this color challenge and see what you can create.
