RuPaul's Drag Race and Logo TV pulls the "She-Male" Episode

After a firestorm of complaints from LGBT activists and allies, "RuPaul's Drag Race" came to their senses and pulled the problematic "Female or She-male"  episode from the series.

Here's a statement from "RuPaul's Drag Race" and Logo TV sent to HuffPo:
We wanted to thank the community for sharing their concerns around a recent segment and the use of the term 'she-mail' on Drag Race.

Logo has pulled the episode from all of our platforms and that challenge will not appear again.

Furthermore, we are removing the 'You've got she-mail' intro from new episodes of the series.

We did not intend to cause any offense, but in retrospect we realize that it was insensitive. We sincerely apologize.
Classy, but very late.

Carmen Carrera speaks out on the RuPaul Drag Race Anti-Trans Drama

Some of you may know that RPDR is under fire for their She-Male segment. The producers and Logo TV has released statements, but it's poo-putt at best.

Now Carmen, a former contestant and transwoman speaks out on her Facebook page
Some of you guys asked me to make a comment so here it goes...
Although I am certain RuPaul's Drag Race didn't mean to be offensive, let this be a learning experience. I think the show has opened up and educated the minds of many people who were ignorant to the world of drag and has made equality and respect a possibility for those involved, not only as equal beings but as phenomenal artists. There has always been a huge presence of trans artists in the drag scene. "Shemale" is an incredibly offensive term, and this whole business about if you can tell whether a woman is biological or not is getting kind of old. We live in a new world where understanding and acceptance are on the rise. Drag Race should be a little smarter about the terms they use and comprehend the fight for respect trans people are facing every minute of today. They should use their platform to educate their viewers truthfully on all facets of drag performance art. ‪#‎SheHasSpoken‬
Nuff' said.

RuPaul's Drag Race Producers issue a Poo-Putt Apology over Anti-Trans Segment

RuPaul's Drag Race got messy a few weeks ago.

In one of the mini-challenges, the cast members played a game where they had to identify if a woman or a drag star was a “female” or a “she-male”.

Several folks called out RuPaul over that segment. For a while the RuPaul's peeps were quiet, but yesterday they sent this message:
“We delight in celebrating every color in the LGBT rainbow. When it comes to the movement of our trans sisters and trans brothers, we are newly sensitized and more committed than ever to help spread love, acceptance and understanding,” said RuPaul Charles, Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, Tom Campbell, Steven Corfe and Mandy Salangsang.
Ummm.... That's a clear non-apology.

Then Logo said:
“We have heard the concerns around this segment. We are committed to sharing a diverse range of trans stories across all of our screens and look forward to featuring positive and groundbreaking stories of trans people in the future.”
Really? Are we still making non-apologies in 2014? Please, do better. That segment hurt a part of our community. You could be a bit more considerate and apologize.

RuPaul's Drag Race is a Ratings Smash

Logo TV has found some footing in the rating game with RuPaul's Drag Race. Over 400,000 viewers tuned in to see the beautiful mess.
This number represents a 50% increase over last season's opener and clocks in as the highest-rated series premiere in Logo history.  Additionally, the 90-minute, super-sized premiere tallied 481,000 total viewers tuning in to meet the new cast of 13 drag queen hopefuls who will fight it out to be crowned "America's Next Drag Superstar."  The fourth season premiere of "RuPaul's Drag Race" reached nearly one million viewers on its' premiere night.

Maintaining the ratings momentum, the season premiere of the companion series "Untucked: RuPaul's Drag Race" at 10:30PM sped across the finish line with its most-watched premiere ever averaging 254,000 total viewers.
This is the first time Logo has been talked about in a rating positive format. Bravo, Logo TV! Now, continue this success and get rid of the A-List crap.
