Disney Announces new film "Moana"

Disney has announced their next major animated film called, Moana.

Here's the premise
"The main character will be Moana Waialiki, a sea voyaging enthusiast, and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. When her family needs her help, she sets off on an epic journey. The film will also include demi-gods and spirits taken from real mythology"
Sounds interesting and cultural diverse. The film is coming in 2018.

Florida Hate Group plans to protest Disney Gay Days

Florida Family Association has wasted $4,100 to fly a plane over Disney. They want to warn folks about the gays being there in June.

On their website they said:
How would you feel if you entered the Magic Kingdom anticipating a normal day of fun with your family only to witness thousands of same-sex couples holding hands, hugging, kissing and wearing tee-shirts that promoted their lifestyle?

LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender) activists converge on the Magic Kingdom the first Saturday of every June for an event called Gay Day at Disney.  More photos from the 2011 Gay Day at Disney are posted below.
These fools are ridic. Do they think it's Folsom at Disney? Dummies.

Why is Disney's Black Princess selling Watermelon flavored Candy?

Call it racism, call it crazy, but this is very interesting to see. Disney uses their princesses to sell everything; but this is some mess about to blow up.

As you can see, Princess Tiana is on the Watermelon packet, and Aurora is on the Vanilla one. Again, this could be a honest mistake or sorts, but you can't deny the issues around this.

Most folks know that Watermelon has been a negative racial issue for Blacks for years. I would've thought Disney would know that. And then pairing these two together? Hopefully, somebody realized this and at least, talked about... I hope.

So What was in The Avengers footage at the D23 Expo?

This weekend, the Disney D23 Expo revealed some footage of The Avengers. Many fans were excited about this footage and blogged about it like crazy people. The sad part is, there's no visual scenes of the footage only a description.

However, it's better than nothing. So here's what was shown this weekend:
Loki's being held in an isolated chamber and he slowly looks around to check out its construction.
Fury locks him in and says, "In case it's not clear, you try to escape, you so much as scratch the glass -- 30,000 feet straight down to a steel trap." Fury pushes a button on a keypad that opens a hole in the floor that reveals clouds and air. They seem to be hovering in the Helicarrier.

Loki replies, "It's an impressive cage, but not built for me." Fury says, "You're right; it's built for something a lot stronger (a heavy handed nod to it being the chamber they'll use to contain the Hulk)." Judging from their conversation, it sounded like Loki was taunting Fury over the fact that he lost the Cosmic Cube. If you saw the post-credits scene in Thor [spoilers], you know Loki is aware of its power and what it's capable of.

The whole time Fury and Loki are talking, the entire Avengers team is listening in a conference room. They show Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Captain America (Chris Evans) all sitting at a table. Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) is out in another office watching on two flat screen monitors. After Loki's done speaking, Bruce, who's wearing a purple shirt and glasses nervously says, "He really grows on you doesn't he?"

There's an action montage that features various members of the team fighting -- each other! There's a low angle shot of Iron Man and Thor grabbing fists as if they're trying to overpower each other. Then there's a shot of Captain America crouched down with his shield covering his body, while Thor is coming down on him with his hammer.

Next, Nick Fury is sitting at a table telling everyone about how an I.D. was sent out to bring together a team of remarkable people who could defend the world when they couldn't defend themselves.
The final scene features Tony Stark standing behind a bar (at what appears to be his house) talking to someone. He says, "Let's do roll call; we have two highly trained assassins (shows Black Widow and Hawkeye standing next to each other shooting bullets and arrows), a demigod (shows Thor) and a living legend (shows Captain America)." It cuts to Loki standing and looking at him as he replies, "I have an army." Tony says, "We have the Hulk." At that moment, a close-up of the Hulk's face flashes across the screen as he yells at the top of his lungs!
Sounds exciting, right? I hope to get actual footage soon.

WHAT IF Disney made a Doctor Who Flick?

Would you watch a Doctor Who movie if Disney made it?

I saw this fake poster on io9 and cringed at the thought. But who knows, Disney could give flair (high doubt).

What do some of the fans think?

Angelina Jolie might Play Her

I am fascinated with this news!

With "Maleficent," the postmodern take on "Sleeping Beauty," gaining momentum at Disney, there's also a star who could be surging with it: Angelina Jolie.

Earlier this week, the news broke that Disney had hired its longtime collaborator Linda Woolverton ("Beauty and the Beast," "The Lion King") to work on the screenplay for the live-action take on the 50-year-old hit. (Maleficent is the evil fairy godmother in the Disney film; this story would be told, "Wicked"-like, from her perspective.)

Both Tim Burton and Angelina Jolie had last spring been rumored to join the project, which Disney has been kicking around for a while as a way to mine its library, among other things. Burton's involvement remains unclear as he contemplates several projects. But sources say that, as of the last few weeks, Jolie is keen on the film and would like to sign on to play the titular villain.
This could be the best casting ever.

The Marvel/Disney shack-up details

Since this morning's news, more details are released. Here they are:
  • Existing licensing and distribution deals should remain where they are.
  • Disney believes there’s real opportunity with the Marvel catalog of characters and will work on where those opportunities are greatest and how best to leverage them across the existing Marvel and Disney infrastructure.
  • Disney executives went to great lengths during the call to make the point that they don’t pretend to be more expert than Marvel is in handling their characters, citing the hands-off relationship Disney has had with Pixar since the acquisition of that studio. Disney said Marvel manages the properties from a business perspective very intelligently and trusts them to make the right decisions for these products for a long time to come.
  • Disney said the deal was attractive not just because they’re buying great characters, stories and brand, but about working with people who know these characters best and how best to work with them in other media.
  • Again, referencing the Pixar deal, Disney finds working as one company with Marvel removes friction and creates value that’s very compelling. Licensing offers very attractive opportunities, but nothing is better than being one. International expansion of Marvel properties through Disney was cited as a potential growth area.
  • Cable channel Disney XD is currently running about 20 hours a week of Marvel content and Disney has been looking to license more Marvel content and this deal gives them that opportunity as well as the opportunity to expose these characters internationally.<.li>
  • With regards to video game publishing, Disney praised Marvel’s licensing agreements with some of the best video game producers and publishers in the business and said moving forward they will consider what’s best for each individual property as each licensing deal comes up for renewal and that there would likely be a blend of licensed and self-produced/self-distributed titles.
  • With respect to Paramount’s distribution deal with Marvel and the Iron Man franchise, Disney has every intention to respect the deal that’s in place, but noted that it’s in their best interest, overtime, to become the sole distributor of Marvel films.
  • Will Disney3D be used for Marvel movies? That will be determined by those who are in charge of producing Marvel’s theatrical films.
  • When asked if there was potential for cross-polination between Marvel and Pixar, Disney said that Pixar’s John Lasseter has met with key Marvel creative executives recently and the group got “pretty excited, very fast.” Disney will look at all opportunities and thinks there are some exciting product that could come from this sort of partnership.
  • Disney said this deal is expected to benefit Marvel’s retail efforts, being able to leverage Disney’s shelf space and relationships with major chains and distributors.
  • The deal began when Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger reached out to Marvel Chief Executive Ike Perlmutter earlier this year. Again, Disney noted that they believe in the creative team at Marvel and see no reason to upset that applecart.
  • Disney has not made any real estate decisions and sees no reason to move Marvel Studios from their headquarters in Manhattan Beach, California. No mention of Marvel Publishing’s offices in New York City was made.

Marvel + Disney = Fear in this Comic Book fan

I'm not sure how I feel about this piece of news right now, but I fear for the worst.

The Walt Disney Co. claims it is acquiring Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock. In other words, they want to bring Ororo, Jean Grey and The Wasp into the Disney family and make them princesses.

Then, there's this...
Under the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of 5,000 Marvel characters. Disney said Monday that Marvel shareholders will receive $30 per share in cash plus 0.745 Disney shares for every Marvel share they own.

It said the boards of Disney and Marvel have both approved the transaction, but it requires an antitrust review and the approval of Marvel shareholders.

I feel like Disney will make Dr. Doom and Mr. Sinister best friends and the Fantastic Four a family that fights for love and peace in the kingdom. I hope the shareholders stand their ground and make tight demands.

I mean, look at Spider-Man the musical, that's enough to convince me this could be a bad idea.

The Princess and The Frog Trailer

Now I'm not a huge Disney person. However, when they boasted the first Black princess in a Disney film, I have to say that I was interested.

Now, the trailer's out.

And I'm still interested.

Basically, Disney's saying IT SUCKS

It's not a surprise this happened, considering how sucky the Prince Caspian flick was. But here's the news

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" will have to sail without Disney.
This was no surprise, but I thought I would post it.

While declining to elaborate, Disney and Walden Media confirmed Tuesday that for budgetary and logistical reasons the Burbank-based studio is not exercising its option to co-produce and co-finance the next "Narnia" movie with Walden.

The third entry in the series, based on the classic books by C.S. Lewis, was in preproduction and set for a spring shoot for a planned May 2010 release. The development puts the participation of the talent attached in doubt. Michael Apted was on board to direct a script by Steven Knight. The key players of the second installment, "Prince Caspian" -- Ben Barnes, Georgie Henley, William Moseley and Anna Popplewell -- were to return for the third film.

Walden has a strong relationship with the Lewis estate and will shop "Treader" in hopes of finding a new partner. The most likely candidate at this stage is Fox, which markets and distributes Walden fare under the Fox Walden banner.

It is rare for a studio to pull out of a planned trilogy in midstream, but the number-crunching showed a franchise on a downward trend. "Lion" roared to $292 million domestically and another $453 million internationally in 2005. This year, "Prince Caspian" grossed a healthy $141 million in North America and another $278 million internationally, but that was well off the "Lion" take.

People watched it, but it was nothing like Harry Potter or LOTR. I guess folks had their fill of the fantasies

Black Friday

Unless Louis Vuitton has a Black Friday sale, I guess I will be avoiding the stores. But, I will be at Disney, for the first half of the day.

However, have a good shopping or sleeping morning.
