Avengers' Agent Coulson Returns!

My friends at NYCC just told me about a surprise for the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show...

Agent Coulson lives!

TV Line has the scoop as well.
Clark Gregg will appear in Joss Whedon‘s Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot for ABC, reprising his role as agent Phil Coulson, whom he has previously played on the big screen in the Iron Man movies, Thor and, most recently, Whedon’s The Avengers.

“Did you ever think there would be a S.H.I.E.L.D. show without Agent Phil Coulson?” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feig said in announcing the news Saturday at the New York Comic-Con. (Though the way The Avengers ended raises questions about how the Coulson character could figure into a TV series, Whedon has said the pilot will be “autonomous” from the film franchise.)
Interesting and exciting! But how did he survive?

My Vague (Bullet Point) Review: AvX #12 with SPOILERS

So I just read AvX #12 and I found it to be meh. It was predictable and not completely told very well. So here is my bullet point review:

  • The art didn't convey the story well
  • With the amount of psychic training Scott received over the years, it was sad to see him fall victim to the Phoenix
  • The convo between Wanda and Hope could've been a bit more effective
  • Scott's Phoenix power supposedly caused major trauma on the world. That was far-fetched
  • With all of the super smart folks on both teams, they could've figured out that Wanda and Hope could stop the Phoenix a long time ago
  • Why couldn't have Rachel helped? She is the most disciplined when it comes to hosting the Phoenix.
  • If there's no more Phoenix, then why treat Scott as the cosmic threat of the century? He no longer a threat
  • And if Scott is imprisoned, what about Wanda? Why is she allowed to go scott-free?
  • Jean Grey teases are overdone, but I was glad to see her
  • Should Hope cease to exist since the Phoenix is gone? I thought she would be the messiah through the ultimate sacrifice
  • Captain America just now realized his stance on mutants?
  • The whole Iron Fist story line was a waste
  • What happens to Hope now? And do we care? It just seems she was created to be a Jean Tease

I hope this won't affect the new books, but this ending was broke.

Isn't he Cute? A Closer look at The Hulk

This is a good look at The Avengers' Hulk. I think he's kinda cute.

BTW, I used to have a crush of the old school Hulk. Did any of you felt the same way?

Marvel considered The BLACK Avengers TWICE?

Today, I learned that Marvel thought about making the Black Avengers. Seriously? The BLACK Avengers? Yes, honey and it was brought a couple of times.

Marvel SVP of Publishing Tom Brevoort reveals the idea:
The third one I can remember — and at least two different people pitched this at two different times — was an idea that never got as far as an official title, but it was essentially “Black Avengers.” It was “Let’s put all the African or African-American heroes together on a team for an adventure,” and in those cases too, there was nothing about the idea beyond “It’s a bunch of super heroes together” that said “Avengers” beyond the fact that “Avengers” is a term that’s salable. I think there’s something very specific about what “Avengers” means to the Marvel Universe. They’re the varsity. They’re the A-list. They’re the Man. They’re not about being super heroes because of demographics or ethnicity. They stand for something specific and occupy a certain role. If you don’t have some degree of that, then it doesn’t feel like Avengers.

I wonder why The Black Avengers was even thought of or what did they hoped to accomplish. What was next, the Asian Avengers the Gay Avengers? Thank Hera they passed on this, because I think it would have caused a huge backlash.

While I would enjoy seeing more Black characters in comics, I wouldn't want see this team like this formed out of some form guilt or a misunderstanding. I very glad they passed on this concept.

The Avengers Movie 'Plot' Revealed in a Local Newspaper?

Well the Albuquerque Journal has given us some important info. The Avengers movie may have the Skrull and maybe the Kree in it.

See here

For those of you who are not familiar with the storyline of the Avengers/Skrulls/Kree battle, here's a bit of info

In the comics, the Kree are an essentially humanoid race who fought over interstellar technology with the murderous, shape-shifting Skrulls, particularly when the Skrulls created the all-powerful MacGuffin known as the Cosmic Cube. Both used Earth as a battleground, with the Kree capturing and experimenting with human-Kree hybrids, and the Skrulls shapeshifting and assimilating into the highest levels of power in global governments.

If true, this could be super fun!

Jeremy Renner in final negotiations to be in "The Avengers" as Hawkeye

Hot Avengers News

Jeremy is in final negotiations to join The Avengers.

THR reports:

Renner will play the bow-and-arrow-carrying hero Hawkeye, who, while not one of the initial members of the team when it was created in the 1960s, became an integral member soon after when the misguided villain switched sides.

Renner will join Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Don Cheadle as War Machine.

I think is a good choice.

Hot Rumor! Josh Holloway in The Avengers?

Interesting rumor, folks.

LOST hottie, Josh Holloway could, maybe, possibly be in The Avengers.

Avengers News reports:
Apparently there’s been talk between Marvel and his group to play a “lead” role in an upcoming Marvel film. We mention a “lead” role because these bigger actors often won’t sign “retainers”, meaning everything should be 100% locked (character, film, etc) for Josh once he’s signed the dotted line. We have no idea who he could be playing or how soon he could sign, but here are some of our thoughts we've compiled with the subtle hints we've received.
Now this is just a rumor, but he could be in The Avengers or Thor. I guess we will learn by Comic Con.

But I wonder... Which hero would he be?

Why I think Joss Whedon is Directing and possibly Rewriting Marvel's scripts

Okay, so some folks are worried about Joss Whedon possibly rewriting The Avengers and Captain America movies.

I've seen different types of posts, claiming Cap will sound like Xander or the movie will be campy. But let's look at this carefully here.

WARNING this is my bias opinion, but it's still objective.
  • Joss will/may be rewriting the scripts, but look at who wrote the original scripts... Zak Penn. This is the person who gave us Fantastic Four, Elektra (Good Lord) and the rotten lemon juice in my eyes, X-Men- The Last Stand. Y'all remember these horrors, they were true insults to the comics and the fans. I'm sure Marvel Studios realized this and knew if they wanted more street cred, Joss's pixie dust may save the day. Plus, Disney don't play! They have a big stake in this and I know they want the best. So, it's very understandable why Joss should be more hands on.
  • Another reason is Joss's fan base. We are loyal to the death. We will follow him and his work, so if he rewrites and direct The Avengers, we are so there.
  • Joss is a great story teller. This man is great at what he does and most of us know it.
  • Another reason is choosing actors. Joss will not pick an actor or actress because they are overly hot. He will pick folks he trust and who are best for the part.
  • Finally, I think he truly genuine about the overall process. It's not about the glamour or glitter, fashion or fame. It's about the story and that's the reason why I love Joss Whedon.
So, I know he will work his magic on the scripts and get the best work from the actors. If anyone can give us a great comic book movie, Joss can.

What's that, Bubo...Joss Whedon WILL direct The Avengers! UPDATED

Deadline claims this is true, so here's the news!
I'm told Marvel Studios is in final negotiations for Buffy the Vampire Slayer series architect Joss Whedon to direct Marvel Studios' The Avengers. That's the fast-tracked film that would amount to an all-star team of Marvel superheros, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), as well as SHIELD leader Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

Other signature superheros will likely be involved, but I've listed the actors in active superhero duty. Whedon has been rumored for this job for awhile, and is high on the fanboy wish-list. He's an interesting choice: despite his writing/producing TV series resume, his lone feature directing effort,
Serenity, was not a hit.
It was a hit, just not by stupid people standards!

Yes, I'm a Whedonite.

UPDATE!!!

Variety Confirms IT!!!
Marvel Studios is wrapping up a deal for Whedon to helm "The Avengers," which assembles the superheroes in one pic on May 4, 2012, that Paramount will distrib. Whedon will also rework Zak Penn's script.
Get Excited!!!!

Hot Rumor! Joss Whedon on the short list to direct The Avengers

Another Joss post.

Word is he's on the short list to direct the Avengers movie!

Director Louis Leterrier has thrown his hat into the ring as wanting to bring Earth's mightiest heroes together under one tentpole but we are hearing it will not be his cross to bear. Leterrier mentioned a short list of directors recently that Marvel was looking at, he didn't know who else was on the list but IESB has found out one other member.

The same sources that spilled the beans to IESB about Spider-Man 4 being put on an indefinite hold back in December, have revealed that another leading contender on that short list to direct THE AVENGERS film is none other than Joss Whedon.

He can do it! I'm all for it!

So who will be in the Avengers movie?

Marvel Studio President, Kevin Feige has somewhat leaked the possible characters in the Avengers movie.

So far, we know that Iron Man is in it, maybe the Hulk... But who are the others?

Well here's some info from an interview with CBR

Black Widow is being introduced in “Iron Man 2” and is played by Scarlett Johansson. Will her character be a part of “The Avengers” movie or possibly be spun-off into her own feature film?

She’s signed on for all of those should we be lucky enough to have an audience that wants to see them.

Will the Hulk factor into “The Avengers” film at all?

I think so. In the comics, he has.

Would “The Incredible Hulk” star Edward Norton return for the Avengers movie?

I don’t know? We should ask him.

How large will Nick Fury’s role be in “Iron Man 2,” “Thor,” and “Captain America?” You know, that remains to be seen. I think [Sam Jackson’s] gone on the record as saying that he hasn’t busted into badass action mode yet. At the end of the first one, for the people who were patient enough to wait through the end credits, they met this guy named Nick Fury. They or Tony had no idea who he was. In this movie, he opens that door a little bit more for Tony and invites him to walk through it. Tony may or may not do that in this movie. But Nick Fury is the conduit through which all the characters will connect.

So we have Cap, Tony, Thor?, Hulk? and Black Widow (ugh). But I wonder if they will bring in other faves like The Wasp, Scarlett Witch, Hawkeye or Vision.

I would love to see Wanda (Scarlett Witch) or Vision up in the mix. But we have 3 years before it's out so anything is possible.
