I decided that I was in the mood for a bit of a change in my guest room.
I previously had it decorated in an Americana style.
I didn't have much money to spend so I had to do a lot of shopping in my storage room.
I also wanted to use this beautiful french country looking quilt that
my Mama made for me for me several years ago!
I also wanted to use this beautiful french country looking quilt that
my Mama made for me for me several years ago!
Mom added this really sweet label on the corner of the quilt using her very fancy Husqvarna sewing machine that does embroidery!
Isn't that just the sweetest?!!
I like the colors on the the palette above... maybe you can help me decide!
Tell me what you think!
Do you have a color choice you think would look nice?
Or should I leave it as is?
You know it was so much easier
when it was "in" to have all your walls white!
but I came across a steal of a deal on these at K-mart.
Each treatment was all one piece and even had fringe for ONLY 14.99!
The color was right and I couldn't have made them this inexpensively!
So... I bought em.
So... I bought em.
They came with their own fabric tiebacks...
....but I remembered that I had saved two sets of these plastic hold backs that were originally in the room when we bought our home over 25 years ago.
I had taken them down, and stashed them in my storage room.
My blog friend Kammy had done some projects using this oiled bronze spray paint and I loved them, so I thought hey I'll give some a try on these!
Voila....
What a difference!!
I also needed a bedside table, and found this one that also holds magazines too, at G/W for $4.00
and I knew some of same spray paint would do wonders on it as well!
I added this $6.00 lamp, also from G/W,
and this wonderfully scented candle from Ross.
Here's how the room looked again,
before....
and after...
I stored away all my stuffed bears accept this cute one in the yellow dress and put her in this cute rocking chair.
I also spray painted this tall metal vase that I had, and added a bouquet of sunflowers that I also got from G/W for 99 cents.
The pictures in the corner I made by re-using frames that I already had then added fabric background, and blue borders to the rose calender prints I had to tie them to the blue in the quilt.
A little more trusty spray paint spruced up this plate rack, also a thrift store treasure.
Then instead of using plates, I used these framed prints that I put together.
Another look at the room.
Before...
And after...
Oh, these cute little fleur de lis wall sconces I also got at a thrift store for 50 cents a piece! The pitcher and bowl I made in ceramics shop.
It's always fun to change your decor and it doesn't have to take much money. Just a little imagination and a can or two of spray paint!!
Have a wonderful week!

Sherri,
I love your mother's handiwork, what a beautiful quilt and treasured heirloom! You pulled together a great look on a budget, and I appreciate clever over money every time.
If you paint, a nice color is SW whole wheat. It is warm and inviting, but not over powering and you could still use your Americana if you changed it back at some point. I will send you an e-mail with some photos of gold rooms that might be helpful.
I noticed your rooster tassel hanging from the trunk, how perfect!
Cathy
P.S. I have that exact same birdcage only I spray painted mine black!
A beautiful quilt and I like the change! Those are lovely curtains!
Great makeover Sherri. I have the same fabric the quilt is made of. I haven't used it yet so now I've got some great inspiration. Love your French Country look. I like Americana too but it's fun to change things up.

What a lovely makeover!!! Your quilt is beautiful and so special that it was made by your mother!!! I love the way you pulled everything together with all of your new thrifty finds...great job!!!
What a really nice transformation, Sherri! Using your quilt from your mom helps make the room more personal to you. I say paint the room using a tone of the gold/brown that is in the quilt. I like how you painted the GW finds to make them more up to date. LOVE the birdcage!
OH! I bought the spray paint at Walmart yesterday and sprayed my estate sale candlesticks. They look so good... and expensive... I had been looking for something like this but until you told me the brand, I was chasing my tail...
Thanks so much, girlfriend! xoxo Sue
Beautiful transformation! And the quilt is amazing! Your mom did a wonderful job on it! ~Rhonda :)
Sherri, Beautiful quilt your Mom did for you. Isn't it great to have a Mom who quilts? Mine also does tatting. Your room is lovely.
Your makeover looks great!! The gorgeous quilt steals the show!! I agree with the first commenter about the wheat color. All the colors in the pallet you posted would be too strong! The room look great!!
I would pick yellow nugget or delicate gold from your palate, whichever goes best with the quilt. Your mom's quilt is gorgeous!!!!
very pretty! Those are colors I am also considering, I like the maize color for the wall! Cindy

Oh Sherri, I love that quilt, and how special that your mother made it and put that wonderful tag on it. I also love the lamp you got at GW. (I have the exact lamp that I got from a thrift store years ago!). Your cans of spray paint sure worked miracles in this room. laurie
What a beautiful redo Sherri. I loved it before and I love the after. That little magazine table was a find and painting it black was a great idea. Spray paint is my best friend. I just love the beautiful quilt that your mother made. What a treasure that is.
Good job girl!
Hugs,
June
Hey Miss Sherri ~
Love that angle of that bed !! Caaaaaute ! I would love to see a warm color on the wall - I think it would make the room look RICH for cheap, LOL ! What color is that stripe on the bed - can't tell if it is a yellow or a tan..?
That would help me decide.
I have that same patriotic spread and sorry to say that my bedroom is still decorated that way...I can't re-do everything at once....it is on my list !! Glad you are still lovin that oil rubbed bronze..I need to post about my back door and using it (bronze) - it wears super well - hmmmm another post to work on :o)
Have a super day !
Kammy
It looks great! I really love the bed an an angle.

~WOW! Sherri your guest room is truly gorgeous! Fabulous makeover my friend! I absolutely adore your pretty new red drapes. ~Lovely in every single detail.
The paint color palette of colors you have shown are all just GORGEOUS! Seriously just looking at them makes me want to re-paint my entire house. LOVE them all! The red paprika is amazing and so rustic yet warm.
I wonder if your could use it another room of your home since you alreadyy have the new red drapes in here?
~Happy Fall! ~Melissa :)
Hi Sherrie...
Sheesh...I just typed you the longest note and blogger lost it! I will try again! Hehe!
My friend, I really enjoyed your fabulous guest room makeover...what a beautiful transformation, although I thought this room was really pretty in the "before" photos too! I just love your mom's fabulous quilt...it's gorgeous!!! Your mom is a very talented lady! Love your new red drapes too...so pretty with the quilt! I love all of your changes, Sherri...absolutely gorgeous!!! Love the bronze drawer pulls and the little glass table in bronze...sooo pretty!
I was looking at the color chart...I just love all of these beautiful shades! They are just my style!!! It looks like to me that the yellow nugget might be the same shade of yellow that is in the quilt and pretty decorative pillow...that would be really pretty!!! I also think a pretty buttery yellow would look fabulous too! I love a soft buttery yellow with red and blue! I'm so excited for you, Darlin'! Can't wait to see what you decide to do! Thank you for sharing your beautiful guest room with us...what a treat!!!
Love ya,
Chari
