June 09., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader and two other extremists during an operation in Kandahar City, Kandahar province, today.

The leader oversees a group of extremists involved in improvised explosive device operations in Kandahar City. He has a history of building multiple types of IEDs and directing his subordinates to carry out attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Kandahar City.

An Afghan and coalition security force killed two fighters during an operation in search of a senior extremist leader with ties to both the Taliban and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan in Sar-e Pul district, Sar-e Pul province, yesterday.

The senior leader is the ranking Taliban official in the Sherams region of Sar-e Pul district and is responsible for multiple attacks targeting Afghan and coalition forces. He facilitates the movement of improvised explosive device materials and has command and control of several Taliban groups. He also plans assassinations and kidnappings and illegally taxes civilians in the area. As the security force approached the senior leader’s suspected location, a group of extremists opened fire. The force returned fire, killing two.

Central

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested five extremists during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, today. The leader coordinates direct and indirect fire attacks targeting Afghan and coalition forces. He oversees kidnapping operations, directs the execution of kidnapping victims, raids local villages in order to extend Taliban power, and relays operational guidance from senior Taliban leadership to his fighters. The security force also seized one rifle as a result of the operation.

Commandos of 2nd Company, 8th Special Operations Kandak killed six enemies of Afghanistan in Sange Sheykh village, Gizab district, Daykundi province, yesterday. The 8th SOK responded to reports from the Gizab District chief of police that extremists were attacking multiple ALP checkpoints. Following the engagement the commandos recovered two AK-47s.

June 02., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader and one other enemy of Afghanistan during an operation in Lashkar Gah, Helmand province, June 2.

The leader maintains operational control over a group of fighters responsible for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He is also involved in the construction and emplacement of improvised explosive devices, facilitates the movement of weapons in the local area for use in attacks, and receives guidance from senior Taliban officials for dissemination to front-line fighters.

The security force also seized ammunition and five AK-47 magazines as a result of the operation.

Afghan Local Police and coalition forces recovered a weapons cache while on patrol to Kirda and Meran villages in Shah Joy district, Zabul province, June 1. The cache consisted of three rifles, two pistols, one 107mm rocket, one RPK, one shotgun, and assorted ammunition. All seized items were destroyed on location.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested three enemies of Afghanistan during an operation in search of a Taliban leader in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province, June 1. The leader has conducted numerous attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also coordinates the movement of weapons and fighters through Nangarhar province and performs limited intelligence duties for local Taliban networks.

Afghan and coalition security forces killed three enemies of Afghanistan during two operations in search of a Haqqani leader in Gardez district, Paktiya province, June 1. The leader conducts improvised explosive device attacks and intimidation campaigns targeting Afghan and coalition forces. He facilitates the movement of weapons and military equipment into the local area. The leader is also responsible for kidnapping operations and coordinates with senior leaders to execute guidance within the Haqqani network. The security force also destroyed one heavy weapon as a result of the operation.

Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the death of a Haqqani leader, Abdullah, during an operation in Khoshi district, Logar province, May 30. Abdullah, also known as Osmani, also known as Abdul Sorkh, also known as Rohullah, coordinated and directed improvised explosive device, indirect fire and small arms attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He was responsible for weapons facilitation and IED emplacement and exercised command and control over multiple Haqqani groups in the area. He also directed assassinations against local Afghans.

May 31., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition security forces arrested a Taliban facilitator during an operation in Chimtal district, Balkh province, May 30.

The facilitator is responsible for the movement of explosives and weapons in the Balkh province for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He collects illegal taxes from civilians to pay for weapons and has command and control over a cell of Taliban fighters responsible for multiple attacks in the local area.

May 30., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested three insurgents during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Archi district, Kunduz province, today.

The senior leader is responsible for constructing improvised explosive devices and suicide vests for use in insurgent operations. He has also directed and coordinated attacks in Archi district resulting in the deaths of numerous Afghan National Security Force personnel.

During the operation, a group of insurgents opened fire on the security force. The security force returned fire, killing three fighters.

The security force also seized two AK-47s, one sub-machine gun, one rocket-propelled grenade launcher and eight rocket-propelled grenades as a result of the operation.

KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a senior Taliban leader and eight other insurgents during an operation in Nad ‘Ali district, Helmand province, today.

The senior leader oversees a direct action cell of fighters responsible for a series of attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Nad ‘Ali and Marjeh districts. He is also responsible for procuring weapons for use in insurgent attacks and managing Taliban personnel actions in his area of operations.

The security force also seized two AK-47s and one rifle as a result of the operation.

May 25., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan (May 25) – An Afghan and coalition security force killed eight insurgents during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Achin district, Nangarhar province, today.

The leader has planned, coordinated and executed multiple attacks against Afghan government facilities, in addition to Afghan and coalition forces. He maintains operational control over numerous insurgent groups in the local area, and relays operational guidance from senior Taliban leadership to his fighters.

Afghan Local Police killed one Taliban insurgent and wounded two others while defending the Haji Safraz checkpoint in Archi district, Kunduz province, yesterday. The ALP returned fire after an unknown number of Taliban fighters attacked the checkpoint with small arms fire. Following the engagement ALP transferred custody of the dead and wounded insurgents into the custody of the Afghan Uniformed Police.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban facilitator and two other insurgents during an operation in Arghandab district, Kandahar province, today. The facilitator is responsible for procuring improvised explosive devices and distributing them to multiple insurgent groups throughout Arghandab and Dand districts. He is also involved in indirect fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also seized a handgun as a result of the operation.

Afghan National Army Special Forces of the 8th Special Operations Kandak, Afghan Local Police, and Afghan Uniformed Police killed one insurgent while responding to an ambush targeting the Mya Neshin district Chief of Police, Abdul Satar, in Mya Neshin district, Kandahar province, yesterday. The security force, which was providing over-watch for a local shura, reacted when an unknown number of insurgents began to attack the DCoP as he was departing Kushany Karez Kalay village.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani high-profile attack facilitator and one other insurgent during an operation in Gardez district, Paktiya province, today. The facilitator has been involved in multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Gardez district and Kabul. He acquires weapons and military equipment and distributes them to local insurgent groups. At the time of this arrest, he was actively planning an attack involving multiple suicide bombers.

An Afghan and coalition security force killed two insurgents and wounded two others during an operation in search of a Haqqani affiliated Taliban leader in Muhammad Aghah district, Logar province, yesterday. The leader is involved in planning, facilitating and executing attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He purchases and transfers explosives, weapons and military equipment to Taliban and Haqqani cells for use in insurgent operations.

Provincial Response Company Ghazni, enabled by coalition forces, discovered a large cache of Potassium Chlorate, while conducting a cordon and search operation in Dey Yak district, Ghazni province, yesterday. The cache consisted of twenty 50 kg bags of Potassium Chlorate totaling 1000 kilograms. All seized items were destroyed on location.

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban facilitator and two other insurgents during an operation in Dand district, Kandahar province, May 24.

The facilitator is a vital member of improvised explosive device networks in Kandahar City. He procures and distributes IED-making materials, weapons and other military equipment for use in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

Provincial Response Company Logar, enabled by coalition forces, seized a large cache of explosives making materials during a cordon and search mission in Pul-E Alam district, Logar province, May 23. The cache consisted of one IED, 374 pounds of ammonium nitrate, and 50 kilograms (110 pounds) of phosphorous fertilizer. All seized materials were destroyed on location.

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force killed three insurgents during an operation in search of a senior Haqqani leader in Sayyid Karam district, Paktiya province, May 22.

The leader is directly involved with improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He coordinates insurgent movement and attacks and provides information to senior Haqqani leaders. The leader facilitates the movement of IEDs, weapons and money into the local area.

The joint forces conducted the operation to construct a checkpoint near Qadir Qalay village, which was completed yesterday. The checkpoint will be used by ANSF to help secure areas north of the Upper Gereshk valley.

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader and four other insurgents during an operation in Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, today.

The leader plans, directs and executes attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He is also instrumental in producing and emplacing improvised explosive devices in Nahr-e Saraj, in addition to engaging in reconnaissance and intelligence gathering operations for local insurgents.

He also oversees weapons trafficking in the local area and reports on insurgent operations to ranking Taliban officials in Wardak province. The security force also seized one AK-47 and ammunition as a result of the operation.

Afghan Local Police and coalition forces found and destroyed a large explosives manufacturing laboratory during a joint patrol near Kashmiri Bala village, Baraki Barak district, Logar province, yesterday. The lab contained 36 kilograms (80 pounds) of potassium chloride, 34 kilograms (75 pounds) of ammonium nitrate, several hand grenades and two rocket-propelled grenade warheads. The joint force destroyed the structure and explosives after ensuring the safety of all civilians nearby.

In Several Joint Clearance Operations, 18 Armed Taliban Killed (May 21.2013.)

Counterterrorism:
In past 24 hours, Afghan National Police conducted several joint clearance operations with the cooperation of Afghan National Army, NDS and Coalition Forces to clean some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.

The operations were conducted in Nangarhar, Kandahar, Zabul, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Ghazni, Paktiya and Helmand provinces, as a result 18 armed Taliban were killed, one wounded and 22 other armed Taliban were arrested by Afghan National Security Forces.                                                                                   

Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and defused some amount of light and heavy rounds ammunition and IEDs.

During the same 24 hour period, Afghan National Police discovered and defused six anti-vehicle mines placed by enemies of Afghanistan for destructive activities in Kunduz, Uruzgan, Paktika and Herat provinces.

Counter Crimes:
The 101 Kabul Zone National Police detained three suspects accused of theft and drug trafficking in the 1st and 10th Districts of Kabul-City.

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani leader and four other insurgents during an operation in Gardez district, Paktiya province, May 19.

The leader directs and executes attacks aimed at Afghan and coalition forces in Gardez district. He is also a known improvised explosive device expert, responsible for constructing and distributing IEDs to insurgent cells in his local area.

The security force also seized two bolt-action rifles and one AK-47 as a result of the operation.

Afghan Local Police and Afghan Uniformed Police secured a weapons cache and coordinated for its controlled detonation in Deh Yak district, Ghazni province, May 17. Afghan Local Police, of the Laghawat checkpoint, received intelligence concerning the cache’s location and then called for an ANA Explosive Ordnance Disposal team to dispose of the cache. Fifty 107mm artillery shells and five rockets were among the items in the cache.

May 11., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a senior Taliban leader and two other insurgents during an operation in Marjeh district, Helmand province, May 11.

The senior leader is in charge of a cell of fighters responsible for direct and indirect-fire attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also coordinates improvised explosive device and suicide bomber operations throughout Kandahar province and is involved in insurgent weapons facilitation.

Afghan Provincial Response Company Zabul, enabled by coalition forces seized 350 pounds of ammonium nitrate, aluminum powder and several other IED making materials during cordon and search operations in the Shah Joy and Gelan districts of Zabul province, May 10. The purpose of the operation was to disrupt insurgent networks and degrade lethal aid facilitation in the area. The seized IED making materials were destroyed on site.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Haqqani leader and one other insurgent during an operation in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, May 11. The leader has operational control over a cell of fighters responsible for multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He is also involved in the construction and emplacement of IEDs throughout Paktiya province. The security force also seized one sub-machine gun, ammunition and IED-making material as a result of the operation.

Afghan National Army Special Forces and Coalition Forces killed one insurgent and wounded one other in Mehtar Lam district, Laghman province, May 9. The joint forces were conducting a patrol to visit Afghan Local Police checkpoints along the Alingar valley when insurgents engaged the forces with indirect and small arms fire.

Responding to an attack on the Afghan Local Police, an Afghan Security Forces quick reaction force killed 10 insurgents in Qara Bagh district, Ghazni province, May 10. The Afghan force engaged more than 30 dismounted insurgents armed with small arms and RPGs shortly after being dispatched by the district Operation Coordination Center. Following the engagement the security force recovered three motorcycles, two AK-47 rifles and one RPG.

May 03., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force killed a senior insurgent leader, Jamal, who had ties to both the Taliban and the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan. Three other insurgents were killed and detained two insurgents during the operation in Burkah district, Baghlan province, May 3.

As the security force approached Jamal’s location, a group of fighters opened fire on the Afghan and coalition troops. The security force returned fire, killing Jamal and three other insurgents.

Also known as Mullah Zabiullah, Jamal was the second highest ranking insurgent official in Burkah district. His cell of terrorists is responsible for a significant number of attacks, including suicide bombings, against Afghan civilians throughout Baghlan and Takhar provinces. The leader himself was personally responsible for recruiting and training Afghans in insurgency operations and targeting Afghan officials for kidnappings and executions. He also played a significant role in linking Taliban and IMU fighters in Baghlan, working as a mediator and coordinating operations between the two networks.

The security force also seized four AK-47s and ammunition as a result of the operation.

During an operation in Nesh district, Kandahar province May 3, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested a Taliban leader and three other insurgents. The leader has operational control over a group of fighters responsible for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in multiple districts throughout Kandahar province. He also procures and distributes weapons and military equipment to subordinate fighters. The security force also seized an AK-47, three magazines and ammunition as a result of the operation.

Commandos of 2nd Company, 7th Special Operations Kandak killed three insurgents who were emplacing an improvised explosive device and discovered a cache of weapons and drugs during a cordon and search operation in the vicinity of Tormah village, Sangin district, Helmand province, May 2. The insurgents attacked the Commandos while they were conducting a unilateral cordon and search operation. The cache consisted of several grenades, one AK-47, three AK-47 magazines, and 122kg of opium. All seized items were collected, processed and transferred to Afghan law enforcement officials.

During an operation in Waygal district, Nuristan province May 2, an Afghan and coalition security force killed a senior leader with ties to the Taliban and other terrorist networks, Mohammad Issa, and one other insurgent. Issa, also known as Emirati, was in charge of training Taliban fighters and leaders responsible for attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He also had a history of hosting transitory international terrorist in his home prior to them engaging in terrorist activities.

An Afghan and coalition security force wounded one insurgent during an operation in search of the ranking Taliban military leader in Ghaziabad district, Kunar province, May 2. The leader oversees all Taliban military activity in the district. He works directly with high-level Taliban officials in order to develop strategic-level guidance for his network of fighters. He has also planned and conducted multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, and has a history of kidnapping Afghan civilians.

During an operation in search of a Taliban facilitator in Khugyani district, Nangarhar province May 3, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested three insurgents. The Taliban facilitator provides logistical support to senior Taliban leaders throughout western Nangarhar province. He organizes the purchase, transfer and delivery of weapons to support the Taliban insurgency, and has sold rockets used in attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. The security force also seized one pistol, one rifle and one shotgun as a result of the operation.

An Afghan and coalition security force arrested one insurgent during an operation in search of a senior Taliban leader in Sayyidabad district, Wardak province, May 3. The leader has operational control of a group of fighters responsible for a wide range of insurgent activity. He and his fighters have conducted numerous ambushes and other attacks against Afghan and coalition fighters. He also facilitates the movement of weapons and other military equipment to local insurgent cells, and is involved in the construction and employment of improvised explosive devices. During the operation, insurgents within the senior leader’s compound opened fire on the Afghan and coalition troops. The security force returned fire, killing one.

During an operation in Matun district, Khost province May 3, an Afghan and coalition security force arrested an insurgent leader affiliated with both the Taliban and the Taj Mir Jawad networks and three other insurgents. The leader is involved in high-profile attack planning and coordination for an insurgent network located in Logar province. He is responsible for improvised explosive device operations, multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He was also directly involved in a high-profile suicide attack in Kabul on Feb. 27 that wounded eight individuals. The security force also seized one pistol as a result of the operation.

KABUL, Afghanistan – An Afghan and coalition security force killed a Haqqani leader, Sarwar Khan, and one other insurgent during an operation in Zurmat district, Paktiya province, May 1.

Khan, also known as Manzala, planned insurgent operations, provided intelligence reporting to senior leaders, and was involved in kidnapping individuals in Zurmat district. He was responsible for constructing improvised explosive devices and coordinating IED emplacement attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in Paktiya province.

Following the operation security force recovered two AK-47 rifles, thirteen AK-47 magazines, a quantity of ammunition and destroyed one RPG propellant charge, two motorcycles and several IED making materials.

Afghan National Army Special Forces of the 6th Special Operations Kandak, enabled by coalition forces, captured an insurgent leader in the vicinity of Khan Kalay village, Shah Joy district, Zabul province, May 1. The purpose of the operation was to disrupt a known improvised explosive device facilitation network in the area.

Afghan National Army Special Forces of the 7th Special Operations Kandak, acting on information received from the Nahr-e-Saraj District Chief of Police, discovered a weapons cache near Mohamadzai village, Helmand province, Nahr-e-Saraj district, May 1. The cache consisted of 27 improvised explosive devices, mostly pressure-plated IEDs, multiple AK-47 magazines and miscellaneous military equipment. The Afghan force destroyed all discovered materials in place.

An Afghan and coalition security force killed one insurgent and wounded two others in search of a senior insurgent leader with ties to both the Tehrik-e Taliban and Haqqani terrorist networks during an operation in Nazyan district, Nangarhar province, May 1. The senior leader has planned multiple high-profile attacks against civilians, government officials, and Afghan and coalition military forces. He has control of over 100 fighters, including a significant number of potential suicide bombers. He also runs a training camp for indoctrinating prospective insurgents, and is vital in funding TTP and Haqqani operations.

Apr. 17., 2013. - ISAF Joint Command Operational Update

KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan and coalition security force detained a senior Taliban leader and killed two other insurgents during an operation in Marjeh district, Helmand province, today.

The leader is accused of coordinating and conducting direct fire assaults, ambushes, and improvised explosive device attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. He is believed to be a supplier of IED components, heavy weapons and ammunition to Taliban fighters.

The security force also detained three other insurgents and five kilograms of opium during the operation.

Afghan National Army Special Forces troops, supported by coalition forces, detained several suspected insurgents and recovered a cache of weapons during an operation in Warduj district, Badakhshan province, yesterday. The combined force arrested the individuals after discovering a suspected insurgent medical treatment facility in the area. The weapons cache consisted of small arms ammunition, fuses, and a grenade.

Afghan and coalition security forces confirmed today the death of a Haqqani facilitator, Khaliq Mir, during an operation in Sabari district, Khost province, Monday. Mir was responsible for acquiring and distributing weapons to his fellow fighters throughout Khost province.
He was also a member of a cell of fighters responsible for planning and conducting attacks against Afghan and coalition forces.

During an operation in Tsamkani district, Paktiya province, today, a combined Afghan and coalition force detained a Haqqani leader and killed one insurgent. The leader is believed to have operational control over IED operations in multiple districts throughout Paktiya and Khost provinces. He is also accused of having planned and directed multiple attacks against Afghan and coalition forces, and of enlisting the aid of local Afghan children in carrying out insurgent activities. The security force also detained three other suspected insurgents and seized two AK-47s, one pistol and ammunition as a result of the operation.

Afghan Provincial Response Company Zabul, enabled by coalition forces, killed two insurgents and seized a cache of 50 kilograms (110 pounds) of homemade explosives and IED components during a cordon and search operation in Zabul province yesterday. All seized items were destroyed on site.

The operations were conducted in Kunar, Nangarhar, Kapisa, Jowzjan, Kandahar, Zabul, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Paktiya and Helmand provinces, as a result 12 armed Taliban were killed and one armed Talib was wounded.                                                                                     
 
Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated some amount of light and heavy round ammunitions and 2000 kilos of explosives.

The 101 Kabul Zone National Police detained four suspects accused of seizing government property in the 7th District of Kabul-City.

In past 24 hours, Afghan National Police conducted several joint clearance operations with the cooperation of Afghan National Army, NDS and Coalition Forces to clean some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.

The operations were conducted in Kunar, Nangarhar, Laghman, Ghazni, Paktiya, Helmand and Nimroz provinces, as a result one armed Talib was killed and nine other armed Taliban were arrested by Afghan National Security Forces.                                                                                      

Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated some amount of light and heavy round ammunitions.

During the same 24 hour period, Afghan National Police discovered and defused 12 different types of mines placed by enemies of Afghanistan for destructive activities in Kunar, Laghman, Khost, Herat and Helmand provinces.

Counter Crimes:

The 101 Kabul Zone National Police detained seven suspects accused of theft, drug trafficking and assault in the 2nd, 3rd, 12th and 16th Districts of Kabul-City.

In past 24 hours, Afghan National Police conducted several joint clearance operations with the cooperation of Afghan National Army, NDS and Coalition Forces to clean some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.

The operations were conducted in Kabul, Nangarhar, Daikundi, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Paktiya, Farah and Helmand provinces, as a result 19 armed Taliban were killed, five wounded and three other armed Taliban were arrested by Afghan National Security Forces.                                                                                       

Also, during these operations, Afghan National Police discovered and confiscated some amount of light and heavy round ammunitions and 11 anti-vehicle mines.

Counter Crimes:

The 101 Kabul Zone National Police detained three suspects accused of murder and drug trafficking in the 1st and 8th Districts of Kabul-City.
