Apr. 18., 2013. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan National Security and coalition forces discovered one weapons cache and found and safely cleared five improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, April 17.

Ghazni province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Dehyak district.

Laghman province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Alingar district.

Afghan National Security Forces discovered one weapons cache during operations in the Alishing district. The cache contained two mortars.

Paktika province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces found and safely cleared two IEDs during operations in the Yosef Khel district.

Wardak province
Coalition forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Sayyidabad district.

Apr. 17., 2013. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan National Security and coalition forces detained seven suspected insurgents and safely cleared five improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, April 16.

Ghazni province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces detained two suspected insurgents during operations in the Qarah Bagh district. The detained suspects were transferred to a base for questioning.

Kunar province
Afghan National Security and coalition forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Marawarah district.

Laghman province
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared one IED during operations in the Alingar district.

Paktika province
Afghan National Security Forces found and safely cleared two IEDs during operations in the Sar Rowzah district.

Wardak province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces found and safely cleared one IED and detained five suspected insurgents during operations in the Sayyidabad district. The detained suspects were transferred to a base for questioning.

Donkey bombing leaves policeman dead

MAHTARLAM (PAN): One local policeman was killed and three others were injured when an explosives-laden donkey was detonated in eastern Laghman province, an official said on Friday.

The explosives tied to the animal went off near a police checkpoint in the Tingor area of Alingar district late on Thursday, the governor’s spokesman said.

Sarhadi Zwak told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban were behind the remote-controlled bomb attack. But there was no immediate word from the insurgent movement.

Area resident Abdul Ali confirmed the incident, saying the explosives had been concealed in a bag placed on the donkey’s back.

Bridge blown up in Laghman

JALALABAD (PAN): A bridge has been blown up by unidentified miscreants in the Alingar district of eastern Laghman province, an official said on Thursday.

Built three years ago at a cost of $700,000, the bridge in Abuzai area was used by a large number of district residents, the governor’s spokesman, Sarhadi Zwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Governor Dr. Fazlullah Mujaddedi said he had directed security personnel to bring the perpetrators of the blast to justice as soon as possible.

3 IED planters perish in airstrike

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Three mine planters were killed during an airstrike by foreign forces in southern Helmand and Kandahar provinces, officials said on Monday.

An insurgent commander, who wanted to plant a roadside bomb, was killed in an air raid by foreign troops in the Bolan area of Lashkargah late on Sunday, the governor's office said. 

Two other mine planters were killed in the Maiwand district of Kandahar province, said the governor's spokesman, Jawed Faisal. He told Pajhwok Afghan News the men were killed before they could plant the landmines.

Separately, one Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was killed and another injured in a roadside bombing in eastern Laghman province, said Sarhadi Zwak, the governor's spokesman. The explosion took place in the Badiabad area of Alingar district.

Oct. 21., 2012. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces detained six insurgents, located a weapons cache and cleared six improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, Oct. 20.

Kapisa Province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces discovered a weapons cache in Tagab District. The cache contained mortars, a blasting cap and command wire.

Laghman Province
Afghan National Security Forces detained three insurgents during an engagement in Alingar District. The detained suspects were transferred to a base for questioning.

Nangarhar Province
Afghan Uniformed Police found and safely cleared two IEDs in Bati Kot District.

Afghan Uniformed Police detained three insurgents during an engagement in Mohmand Darah District. The detained suspects were transferred to a base for questioning.

Paktika Province
Afghan National Army soldiers found and safely cleared two IEDs, one in Omnah District and one in Sar Rowzah District.

Paktya Province
Afghan National Army soldiers found and safely cleared an IED in Dzadran District.

Wardak Province
Afghan National Army soldiers found and safely cleared an IED in Sayyidabad District.

8 Afghan women killed in NATO airstrike in Eastern Afghanistan

Local authorities in eastern Laghman province of Afghanistan on Sunday announced, a number of Afghan women were killed following NATO airstrike in this province.

Provincial governor spokesman Sarhadi Zwak confirming the report said at least 8 Afghan women were killed and 7 others were injured following NATO air raid in Noorlam area at Alingar district on Saturday night.

Mr. Zwak further added the incident took place while Afghan women were collecting wood from the mountainous region in Alingar district.

Laghman province is one of the volatile region in eastern Afghanistan where militants have increased their insurgency activities. A number of insurgents have been killed following NATO airstrikes in this province during the recent months.

According to NATO-led coalition security forces insurgents are frequently carrying out attacks against the Afghan and NATO troops using the mountainous regions in this province.

In the meantime a number of local residents in Alingar district on Sunday demonstrated against the NATO airstrike and urged to probe the incident.

The demonstrators gathered near the provincial governor compound with the dead bodies of the Afghan women and accused NATO and provincial governor for the civilians casualties.

District Development Chief for Alingar Haji Noor Mohammad Khan said they want trial for the assailants who killed the Afghan women.

Provincial governor spokesman Sarhadi Zwak said they have informed NATO officials, Provincial governor administration and local security officials of the incident.

He said the operation was carried out without informing Afghan security forces however NATO officials denied the reports and said only insurgents were killed following the airstrike in Alingar district.

A NATO spokesman said coalition security forces were following a group of insurgents and were killed during the airstrike.

Meanwhile provincial governor spokesman Sarhadi Zwak said Laghman governor has sent a delegation in the area to probe the incident.

ISAF Joint Command

KABUL, Afghanistan – The International Security Assistance Force has sent a joint incident assessment team to gather facts about a coalition forces operation in Laghman province yesterday which resulted in several Afghan civilian casualties.

The incident occurred as ISAF conducted an airstrike on a large group of armed individuals showing hostile intent in a rugged part of the province. While the airstrike killed several insurgents, the ISAF action also resulted in the unintentional deaths of a number of Afghan civilians.

Coalition forces take civilian casualties seriously and will conduct a complete assessment of the incident.

ISAF offers its sincerest regret to the families.

Sep. 15., 2012. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan - Afghan and coalition forces killed three insurgents, detained three, located a weapons cache and cleared three improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, Sept. 14.

Ghazni Province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces found and safely cleared two IEDs, one in Qarah Bagh District and one in Gelan District.

Khowst Province
Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces discovered a weapons cache in Sperah District. The cache contained items being used to construct IEDs.

Laghman Province
A coalition airstrike killed three insurgents in Alingar District in response to an imminent threat towards Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces.

Logar Province
Afghan National Police and coalition forces found and safely cleared an IED in Muhammad Aghah District.

Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces detained three insurgents during an engagement in Pul-E Alam District. The detained suspects were transferred to a base for questioning.

Aug. 20., 2012. - RC-East operational update

BAGRAM, Afghanistan – Afghan and coalition forces killed two insurgents, detained one and cleared five improvised explosive devices during operations in eastern Afghanistan throughout the past 24 hours, Aug. 19.

Ghazni province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces found and safely cleared three IEDs, one in Ghazni district and two in Gelan district.

Kapisa province
Afghan Local Police and coalition forces killed two insurgents and wounded one during an engagement in Tagab district. The wounded received medical care and was transferred to a base for questioning.

Laghman province
Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces found and safely cleared an IED in Alingar District.

Wardak province
Afghan National Security Forces and coalition forces found and safely cleared an IED in Chak-E Wardak district.

Laghman: 12 Insurgents and Their Commander Killed in Afghan Forces Operation

At least 12 insurgents, including their commander, were killed in an Afghan security forces operation in eastern Laghman province on Tuesday night, local officials said.

Six others insurgents were wounded in the operation, which is ongoing.

The operation was launched in Alingar district of Laghman province to clear the area of insurgents, a spokesman of the Selab 201 military corps in eastern Afghanistan Noman Atifi said.

During the operation, the local insurgent commander Baryalai was killed and the Afghan forces seized many weapons, he said.

There were no Afghan and civilians casualties during the operation, Atifi added.

Alingar district borders with Nuristan province where insurgents have been actively targeting Afghan and coalition forces.

NATO airstrike kill 5 militants in Laghman province

Afghan and coalition forces killed seven insurgents, detained three suspects and discovered an explosives laboratory in eastern Afghanistan during operations throughout the past 24 hours.

NATO-led International Security Assistance Force following a press announced coalition airstrike killed five insurgents in response to small-arms fire in Alingar district eastern Laghman province.

The source further added a coalition airstrike killed five insurgents emplacing improvised explosive devices in Maidan Shahr district at Wardak province. An explosive ordnance team safely detonated three IEDs after the strike.

A coalition airstrike killed one insurgent in Watahpur district after he was positively identified as a Taliban commander, ISAF said adding that the individual led numerous small-arms attacks against Afghan and coalition forces. Also, coalition forces killed one insurgent after receiving small arms fire in Watahpur district.

In a separate operation Afghan National Army soldiers and coalition forces discovered an explosives laboratory while conducting operations in Muqer district at Ghazni province, and detained two individuals suspected to be involved with the lab. An explosive ordnance team safely destroyed the explosive materials found at the site.

Afghan Uniform Police and coalition forces positively identified and detained an insurgent wanted for multiple improvised explosive devise implants in Khowst dstrict.

Anti-government armed militant groups yet to comment regarding the reports.
