May Publications Part Two

Today I have another project to share with you that was featured in the May Issue of Create Magazine!  You can find that issue here!  It's free and full of awesome inspiration!

I wanted to scrap these pics for awhile so when my Paper House package came and had Swim Team stuff in it - I knew I'd make good use of it!  I added the top two pictures to a polaroid frame - allowing me to showcase the kids individually.  I then did one of them together as well.  I based the general color scheme off the water and their uniforms - but added in some red for some extra punch!

I didn't have any particular stash that I was looking to use up this month so I decided to base things on the color of my daughter's dress.  

Using sketches has really been helping me out of a mojo funk lately so this time around I decided to use the sketch from Creative Scrappers Sketch #269.  I loved the grid feel of it! My base paper was already stitched on (the scallop border) and as I was building my grid I decided I wanted to color in a design of my own that coordinated with Lucy's dress.  That was fun and definitely makes things one of a kind!  For my grid pieces I pulled out all my papers and stickers that I thought would match and just started lining things up!  Definitely a unique color pallet but I love it!

Sketchy Saturday - On Thursday!

Well I know it's Thursday but we're doing Sketchy Saturday early this week because my sketch has been up on Imaginisce all week and is ready to be played with!  Here's the sketch!

And here's my interpretation!  This was my first time to really play with the new Little Princess line!  I love the colors in this line and that they include purple!  It is so hard to find purple in patterned papers!  This line was the perfect match for pictures of my little girl from the first day of Kindergarten!

I stuck pretty true to the sketch right down to the polaroid frames on my pictures.  Instead of going to a die cut polaroid I simply extended my matte on the bottom of the pictures and got a "faux" polaroid look!  Because I went with a solid purple base, I decided to keep my triangles the same pattern and do a lighter patterned paper for them.  

I used a bolder paper for my polaroid bases to really make sure my pictures pop!

Imaginisce paper die cuts beautifully and I used lots of die cut flowers, stems, and words throughout as accents on the layout.

Kiwi Lane Designs Pocket Page

You know what one of my favorite things about pocket pages is?  You can use up gobs and gobs of pictures that don't necessarily match or wouldn't make sense on a layout together!  As my youngest son is now 1 1/2 I was itching to get the newborn pictures polished off.  So today you will see a pocket spread from me that uses a whole bunch of newborn pictures!

My favorite part of this layout is how I did the two outside edges using Kiwi Lane borders!  Abbie Road is one of my favorite borders and so I chose that to you use today!

On this side I didn't use a whole lot of other templates simply because with the pictures set up the way they were there wasn't room.

On this side I made use of the tiny brackets to create some unique edges and corners on a couple of pictures.

To show you my framing (which is very very simple because of the pocket pages) I made you a collage!

SRM Challenge Blog - Happy Birthday Card

 Had a little time to play so I thought I would join in the SRM Challenge Blog this month.  The challenge was to create a Happy Birthday project.  

I used bakers twine, a sticker sentiment, and little hearts (that I fussy cut from a border) from SRM Stickers. I also used washi tape, enamel dots, heart pearls,  and patterned paper from Doodlebug Design. And there's that gorgeous kite again from Leaky Shed Studio!  Love that chipboard piece!

Happy Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day to all my American friends!  Today is the day we stop and remember all those who have served to protect our freedoms!  We are truly a blessed nation and have much to be thankful for!

To create this banner flag I simply added stripes of washi, a simple SRM sticker sentiment, and some stars and twine!

This one was a little more complicated.  I created the stripes with washi tape and then also punched some stars out from the washi tape.  I added those making sure to line all the stripes up.  A couple of cute die cuts from Pebbles and a bow were the finishing touches.

Father's Day Cards - Hey Pop from Simple Stories

Looking for a line to put together some Father's Day cards - Simple Stories "Hey Pop" is absolutely perfect! I'll be sending these cards off for samples at The Scrapbooking Studio but first I wanted to share what I put together using just stickers and papers from this line and a few little embellishments! These cards took me probably an hour and a half to do.  You will find that I did lots of fussy cutting and used lots of staples. 

This first card is made up of a base and a fussy cut star and fussy cut triangles.  I filled in some of the squares to add to the pops of color.

Can't forget about Grandpa!  Simple Stories included some pieces that will work for him too!  I built my card up vertically and added some fun googly eyes to the glasses.

A simple quote embellished with heart stickers and wooden hearts.

This time I went for building things up diagonally using stickers and paper.

Sketchy Saturday - Week 11

I took last week off because my schedule was a little crazy with the end of the school year!  But I am back this week with another sketch and sample for you!

When I created this sketch I was initially thinking birthday or sports - but alas I ended up doing a Dad layout instead!

I got to work with the "Hey Pop" line from Simple Stories for The Scrapbooking Studio this month.  Simple Stories has been putting out one awesome line after another and this one was no exception.  This was a smaller one that they call a "set" it doesn't come with all the extra embellishments of the full lines - but what it does come with is great!  Just wait until I share the Father's Day cards I came up with!  I added a little hand stitching to up the texture on the layout - I am finding myself doing more and more hand stitching right now!

Strawberry Washi Tape Card

I had some fun playing around with washi tape last week and this card is one of my creations from that play session!

I created those strawberries entirely from washi tape!  I cut out a strawberry shape for the bottom and then carefully lined up my polka dot washi tape.  I then folded over green washi tape and tore it to make the stems.  I had no idea if it was going to work but when I set it down in front of me I got all excited about how cute those little strawberries were!  I'll be sharing a couple more washi tape cards coming up soon!  See you tomorrow for Sketchy Saturday!

Fancy Pants & Kiwi Lane Design - Zoning in on Doodling

I am up over at the Kiwi Lane Blog today!  I zoned in on doodling with my templates. I love doodling on my layouts be it in the form of outlining or drawing - I just love to use my markers.  It is in fact a rarity to see a layout where I haven't done some marker work.  Today I am going to share a simple way to doodle that is fun and really adds some pizazz to a project.  Today we are going to talk about doodling frames.

The background on this layout is one of a kind because I added my own touches thru doodling.  For each shape that I added (both Kiwi Lane shapes and tags/folders from Fancy Pants) I used the same basic technique but varied the actual doodling.  Here's how I did it:

1. Cut out your shape and adhere it where you want it.

2. Outline your shape with your fine tip marker.

3. Create a second outline about 1/8 of an inch out...don't worry about if it is perfect!

4. Create a pattern within the frame - think scallops, circles, lines, etc.

5. Fill in some parts of the pattern to add some extra contrast.

Another option is to skip step 3 and just add scallops or loops - if you are doing a lot, as I did, this can be another way to add good variety!

All American Layout

I am up today at The Leaky Shed Studio blog!   Since Memorial Day is coming up I decided I wanted to create a layout with an Americana feel to it!  The Picket Fence was the perfect accent for that!

I painted it white but didn't work on perfect painting - I thought a worn feeling added to the Americana feel! I also love that it is a full 12 inches long making it perfect for a layout!   My whole layout was build around the fence with that as the anchor.  The layout tells the story of my little boys watching school kids out the window (we live across the street from a school).

Adding a little sticker banner to it allowed it be accented a little bit without detracting too much from the fence itself!  This fence would also be cool painted black and used in a halloween style layout or brown for a fall layout - such a versatile piece!!!

I have gobs of beach pictures that I was itching to scrap so today was the perfect chance to do just that! I used patterned paper from the Beaches of the World pad and 3D stickers!

Here's how I created this:

1) Trim One inch off the patterned paper and matte it on white cardstock using the Xyron design runner.

2) Cut out four 3.5" X 3.5" white cardstock squares and put those on the left center side of the layout using the Xyron design runner.

3) Cut out and matte pictures on sand patterned paper.  Use Xyron 2 inch sticker maker for the smaller pictures. Add those to the layout using the Xyron Design Runner. Stlide a tag underneath the biggest picture.

4) Die cut a palm tree and title.  Add those to the layout using the Xyron Corner Glue Stick. Decorate the palm tree leaves with glitter glue.

5) Fussy cut wave of sand from patterned paper.  Use the Xyron Corner Glue Stick to attach that.

6) Add swirls of hemp twine over the top of the sand wave.

7) Use At the Beach 3D Stickers to embellish around the scene.

Loved the goodies that I got from Xyron and made use of each of them throughout the layout!

Wedding Shower Card - Imaginisce

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending a wedding shower for a dear friend.  I had just received some new Top Dog Dies in the mail and decided to go ahead and make her up a card using those and the new Little Princess line from Imaginisce.

The gorgeous lace background is a steel die from Top Dog Dies!  It comes in A2 size so you don't even have to worry about cutting your paper the right size - it does it for you!  The additional pink flowers are also from Top Dog Dies.  I got those for my blog hop earlier in the week and have been making use of them quite a bit!

May Publications Part 1

This month I am remembering to share my publications stuff a little earlier!  I had four projects in this month's issue of Create from Scrapbook Generation!  I am just loving the inspiration that this magazine provides every month!  Today I am going to share the two cards that I had in there with you!

My oldest son is a gigantic basketball fan and I was thinking of him as I created this card.  It uses some of the new die cut pieces from Paper House Productions as well their 3D stickers and patterned paper!

This card also features a lot from Paper House Productions - 3D stickers and papers from the Live by Faith line.  This one is definitely one of my favorite cards ever!  I love how two cards can have a similar design feel because of the sketch but still have a totally different purpose and style!

Tennis Layout - Paper House Productions

As I have mentioned before, I really enjoy doing theme scrapbooking, not exclusively but definitely as part of my regular routine.  Paper House Productions has a great selection for sports themed products and today I have a tennis layout to share!

My brother works in sports media so my little nephew has access to a variety of sports.  One that he has recently started to love is tennis!  I asked my sister-in-law to send me some cute tennis pics so I could scrap them.  This layout came together very quickly once I got the basic design of it set up! 

I used the same paper twice - cutting off the corner with the ball and adding it to the base paper.  I then cut a tennis title on my silhouette and decided I liked it on an angle.  I added the pictures surrounding the title and then simply embellished with cardstock stickers, enamel dots, and stars.  Funny little fact on this one: it could totally sit a different direction (flip it 90 degrees) and still look good!  That doesn't happen very often!

Our theme this month is Graduation!  I decided to put a different spin on it and decorate a gift box that could be used by the Graduate to give to a beloved teacher.  I used Samantha's For All You Do Card (59597)to top it off.

Today I am going to show you how I put a little different spin on a traditional card.  I decorated a glassine bag and slid my notecard into it.  

The glassine bag comes from SRM Stickers.  I decorated it using papers from Imaginisce's newest line "Little Princess".  I used the Top Dog Dies Pretty Petals Die Set with those papers and cut out several flowers.  I did a bow with double strands underneath my Imaginisce button.  To create that I glued down a regular bow and then I ran the twine thru the button for my second strand. I added some border stickers from SRM Stickers for a little added pink! I used the Vintage Alphabet Die from Top Dog Dies to create my sentiment.

 The top of my note is decorated with some additional flowers and a small banner. I only wrote on the part that would be hidden inside the bag.

Sketchy Saturday Week 10

I have been itching to really play with Pebbles Garden Party line so for this week's sketch I decided that was the route I wanted to go!  I love this weekly break from committing to use anything but what I want :)  Here's the sketch for this week!

As you can see I veered a bit from the sketch :) But the basic elements are there and sketches are there to remove the pressure - not add more!  I can't wait to see what y'all come up with on this one!

Mother's Day Cards

We are celebrating Mom this week on the Imaginisce blog and I had two cards featured yesterday!I decided to work with my Silhouette Cameo to help in the creation of my cards today!  I used a cut file for the first one that was in the shape of the word MOM.

I cut the base in white so that I could use some pretty patterns in the rest of it. The colors of "Welcome Spring" are perfect for making those Mother's Day cards too! 

As I worked on it I realized I needed something extra so I cut out the "I heart mom" phrase in yellow to add an extra pop of color and added a shadow to it. A fussy cut yellow butterfly added the final touch.

For my second card I was inspired by the patterns on the paper and decided to do some serious fussy cutting to create ruffles.  I love looking at patterned papers and trying to find some different way to use them!  I used the 6 X 6 paper pad for this so that the cuts were more card sized.

After cutting and adhering the rows of scallops, I rolled them up so that they got that ruffle look.  I then went through and added IRocks throughout the rows.  

I liked the look of the sentiment on my last card. So I used the same sentiment cut from my Silhouette as I did on the previous card and added a simple knot at the top of the card to finish it off.
