Bird Christmas Card

This time of year, I tend to make a lot of Christmas cards.

This is one of a set that I made for a friend's silent auction to raise money for the adoption of their son.

I started with a kraft 5"x7" top fold card.  I then made a base of dark blue 4.5"x6.5".  The bird was made on my Cricut Expression and then I added a few details with marker.  The snow is simply a piece of cut cardstock, and some Stickles glitter paint.  I then added the Merry Christmas with a stamp and white pigment ink.

Thanks for looking!

Sisters - Clear Embellishments

This week on Practical Scrappers, I was challenged to use clear embellishments or transparencies.  I had never used either one of these items so of course I had no clue what I was going to do.  I toyed with the idea of doing something with a transparency but came across these cute bottle cap embellishments at the store and thought of doing this instead.

The pictures are of my little girls who are now 12 and 9 years old.  I drew the flower freehand and then added small circles cut from black and white striped paper.  The bottle caps were placed on top of the larger circles and brightly colored gems were added to the smaller circles. I also added a black gem to the center of the flower to finish the look.

This challenge definitely pushed me out of my box and who knows, I may even try to use a transparency sometime soon.

Thank you for checking out my blog today!

Using Kraft

My Practical Scrappers challenge this week was to use Kraft, so I did!

I used Kraft to make a frame, by mitering and inking the edges, I was able to give it a bit of a vintage look.  I also used Kraft to layer under the flower embellishment and to mat the pictures.  The background paper is My Mind's Eye.

These pictures are of La Rambla in Barcelona, Spain.  I am working on a scrapbook of my best friend's trip to Europe with her mom so you may be seeing more layouts with a similar theme.

Coral, Craft, Navy, and White challenge

Sorry I haven't posted in a little while, I have been busy crafting Christmas Presents.  Now that Christmas has past and I am starting to get back into a regular routine, I will try to get my rear in gear again!

Today, I am up on Practical Scrappers with a challenge to do a layout using Coral, Navy, White and Kraft.  This is what I came up with...

I love this black and white picture of my little girl long ago and thought the coral print was the perfect background to bring out those chubby little legs!

Be sure to check back soon. Along with my regular Practical Scrapper posts, I am going to be starting a big project that I am pretty excited about and can't wait to start sharing with you...

Frugal Finds - J*O*Y

This card was fun to make.  I had a Frugal Finds assignment on Practical Scrappers to find a way to use Christmas decor in a different way.

At first I was thinking of using an ornament, or maybe garland on a layout. However, this seemed to obvious to me.  For some reason I kept going back to wanting to do something with ornament hooks.

This is what I came up with...

I used gold ornament hooks, which I bent, and then hooked them together to form a chain.

These were not the easiest things to adhere to the card stock.  I tried a couple of different glues that ended up making my fingers sticky but did not keep the hangers on the paper.  So, I finally settled on sewing them on.  Each hook has a stitch of gold thread holding it in place.

The green circles are card stock that I punched into circles, embossed with my Cuttlebug, and then distressed with green ink from Close to My Heart.

JOY
is made from preprinted chipboard letters from K&Company and finished off with a baker's twine bow.

Layout Sketch 12/20

My take on this sketch by Krissy for Practical Scrappers.

These pictures are so old but I could never really figure out what I wanted to do with them.  Somehow this sketch seemed to work.  I wish the actual photos where a bit sharper but I do like the contrast of the bright pink and lime green with the craft.
