My Last Hoorah Before School Starts

Last week I had the privilege to travel to Atlanta for a week and visit my dear friend, S, her husband, T, and their 2 1/2 year old, N. My husband was gracious enough to let me leave him for a week and S's husband was gracious enough to give me his flyer miles to get a ticket.

What a great week it was. I hadn't seen their family since last May when their boy was 16 months old and now he's 31 months! His age doubled since I last saw him and what a delightful little boy he has become. His personality was so much more evident this time. Isn't he a cutie?

I had fun playing cars and trucks, trains, soccer, baseball, swimming, basketball, puzzles, and more cars and trucks. In fact, we played cars and trucks everyday- upstairs in his playroom and downstairs on the playmat. He loves lining them up by color, driving them down his car ramp, and distributing them out to the person playing with him. We also went to the gym, to Kindermusik, to church and his first day of Sunday School. We went on walks in the neighborhood and took naps in the afternoon.

When visiting other cities I often enjoy eating at places we just don't have at home. This was the case on this trip as well. We ate at Five Guys one night for dinner. I'd heard a lot about the chain and was excited to try their burgers and fries.

And they did not disappoint. Yummy. The burger was juicy, but not greasy and the fries were great. It was fun to see that the potatoes to make them were from Driggs, Idaho, and to know where that is! Five Guys fries their food in peanut oil, which accounts for the difference in taste.

S and I were able to sneak away for one night out on the town. We went to the Fox Theater in downtown Atlanta for a show. The theater is amazing on the inside. It feels almost as if you're in the Middle East with the blue, smokey sky on the ceiling and the architecture around the top. Pictures aren't allowed inside, so you'll just have to imagine it yourself.

The show we saw was the Broadway production of Grease, and Taylor Hicks- previous winner on American Idol- made a brief appearance in the production. Neither S nor I were that crazy about seeing Taylor, but boy did several of the ladies in the audience go crazy when he came out.
It was just so neat to be a part of their daily routine and to see how they are raising their child in a Christian environment. I am amazed at how well he does with the routine they have established, and while he is a 2 1/2 year old and tries to get away with things, they hold firm and stand their ground. They inspired me with parenting ideas and methods simply by just being themselves. Many thanks to you!
