Learn the Basics!
It's finally happened, after painting miniatures "professionally" for 10 years, I'll be teaching a class in my home state of Wisconsin. October 19th at Gathering Games in New Richmond I'll be running a one day beginners class. I'm excited, I'm always excited to teach but this is special for the reasons mentioned :) Calling all northern troops, let's jam!

Finished! Mista Snaakes
I had a blast on this project. He may not be perfect but that's not why I painted him. Orks/Orcs/Orruks will always have a special place in my heart.
This model was also the subject of an upcoming tutorial video shot with Adam, more to come on that soon.
Speaking of tutorial, I also shot a little four stage picture of how I made the waves an put it up on Instagram. If you can find me there the mystery is explained, not much to it really so here's the picture.

WIP: Tokens for Tyler
Adepticon is just around the corner folks :) This time of year always carrys a lot of deadlines for me. I'm always guaranteed to paint an army for the event along with other, soft score, related items like display boards etc. Not to mention, any projects I can finish in time for the Crystal Brush. A client of mine is playing in the upcoming Age of Sigmar tournament at Adepticon and in the tournament you are required to bring one messenger model, six influence markers, and one banner pole thing.
The banner pole and messenger model were pretty straight forward and after discussing it with Tyler we decided I'd carve out a hammer and lightning bolt icon to represent his Stormcast and High Elf force. Here is how I made one carving into six, if you too need some influence markers, enjoy!
The finished carving, glued to a base. I also sculpted a little something to break up the hammer from the lightning bolts.
Next, I made and Insta-mold copy.
Rub some putty in the print...
and shazaam, 5 copies! Ready for paint.
Moving right along :)

Tutorial: Making a tiny rose
While staring at a recent project, the idea came that something was missing. Deciding to go with every idea that came to me on this one, I went about making a wee tiny rose.
What you'll need:
Tinfoil
Hobby Knife
Brass rod
Glue
Wire Clipper
Tweezers
Step one, cut a long pennant shape out of your tinfoil and glue it to a length of brass rod.
Step two, score the top half of the pennant with your trusty blade.
Step three, wrap that pennant, carefully, around the brass rod. When I wrapped it I pulled it in a downward spiral to make sure my "petals" were curling in a natural way.
Step four, I added a small ball of foil to the empty center of the rose and used my various tools to bend the petals to shape.
Step five, Paint it in blood! I also notice there were no leaves on the stem so I cut some teardrop shapes from my tinfoil and glued them in place.
This will be added to the top of my C.A.G.E.'s banner which will be popping up in the future.

Samson Goes to the Movies Part 4
For the latest video with Tabletop Minions, I started work on Lathiem Oakleaf from the Enigma miniatures range. Since we want to keep these video decently short the decision was to break the paint job down. It's not my usual approach to isolate areas and paint them one by one but it serves it purpose for tutorials sake.
First up, the fur! Enjoy!

Samson goes to the movies, Part 3!
Yet another installment in the video series I'm taking part in with Adam and co at Tabletop Minions. This time about the base I created for Lathiem Oakleaf from Enigma Miniatures. Lathiem will be popping up in more videos as we cover the other areas on the figure, fur, skin, leather, etc. Should be fun and a cool way to break a paintjob down into shorter videos.
Enjoy!
(of course the best way to view the video is through youtube but images increase circulation)

Samson goes to the movies Part 2
Yes indeed fellow painters, another tutorial from Adam and the crew at Tabletop Minons. This time on the subject of power swords. This one went a little longer than we'd like but we're leaning as we go and the next batch of videos will be even better.
Enjoy!
