iPhone Confirmed for M1
Tue 13 Oct 2009

M1 and Apple have reached an agreement to bring iPhone to customers in Singapore later this year. M1 looks forward to offering iPhone and a range of tailored service plans to customers in Singapore.

More information on pricing, tariffs and availability dates will be released in due course.

This makes it anybody's game for the iPhone market in Singapore. With SingTel no longer holding onto the exclusive distribution for the iPhone, it's also a good time to see if SingTel will be making any price adjustments in the near future.

Apple MacBook Pro cannot Display Millions of Colors
Sunday, July 12 | 10:26 AM

I got this off Hardwarezone

Apple MacBook Pro cannot Display Millions of Colors
Fri 10 Jul 2009

The new MacBook Pros were launched to much fanfare about a month ago. They were advertised to be able to display millions of colors, but according to a report by Tweaktown, this is not possible as the newest MacBook Pros are equipped with only 6-bit panels, which are able to display up to only 262 thousand colors.

Tweaktown - This trouble is all about the colors man. You see Apple says that its new MacBooks have support for “Millions of Colors” this is great right? Well you see it is not all good. Apple uses 6-bit panels as such they are really only capable of supporting 262 thousand colors.

The way they can get away with saying support for Millions of Colors is through the use of a couple of tricks. One is dithering; this is where you combine adjacent pixels to create a different shade. This usually has the effect of reducing the sharpness of the image. You can also use Frame Rate Control or FRC this rapidly cycles through the color pallet to simulate the same range from an 8-bit display.

You might think 262 thousand colors would be more than enough, but considering that many designers depend on the MacBook Pro and color is so important to them, we are surprised Apple would try to pass off a 6-bit panel as capable of displaying millions of colors. Apple has yet to respond.

Okay. Another good reason to delay my purchase of the Macbook til Apple does a quick PR to avoid further embarrassment.

to iPhone3GS or just continue NOK-ing it?
Friday, July 10 | 4:18 AM

I am still toying with the idea.

To iPhone 3GS or just upgrade my N95 to a 97?

Just came across this on Jason Life Notes:

Some iPhone 3GS users recently reported that their new handsets generates heat easily. One owner even stated when he is using the GPS app, the phone heats up quickly a manifestation that the circuitry could not handle the apps load...

Another good reason to hold back the reins and not jump the wagon too soon?

To all my kids out there - stop flashing me your iPhone3G and its dazzling applications each time you see me. :P

an eye for dark places
Tuesday, March 31 | 9:26 AM

I was waiting at the car wash when these guys came across with some strange hi-tech tools and stuck it into a manpower just a few metres away from where I sat.

The first thought that came to my mind was, "Oh, that's a mighty mosquito power blaster!"  If you don't realise this by now, I hate mosquitoes.

Actually, I was close. That cool tool helps these workers spot chokes in the sewers and of course, mozzie breeding grounds.  Way to go!

matrix in windows
Friday, March 6 | 10:01 AM

My all-time favourite sci-fi trilogy and the operating system, which most of us are stuck with, rolled into one crazy video. Have a good laugh and may you have an error/bug-free Windows day!

footnote to Macs users - shut up! :P
