Holiday Monday Breakfast

Wife: Are you doing anything?
Me: (spinning Liam around the kitchen & blowing raspberries in his neck) No.
Wife: Then cook the bacon.
Me: (pointing at the dials) What do I set this at?
Wife: Medium
Me: (opening freezer, looking but...)
Wife: It's in the fridge.
Me: (opening the fridge, looking but...)
Wife: It's in the door.
Me: It's about the way you said that...
Wife: Like you're an idiot?

PS. Do NOT fry bacon without a shirt on. Ribs and the little spot just below your armpit? Mad sensitive.

38 years of dumb, for your viewing pleasure.

Happy Birthday

Have a great weekend. Or, as I saw on Kottke yesterday, enjoy your "Will Smith holiday weekend."

Also, a big happy birthday for my nephew Dakoda, whom I couldn't find a picture of in all 1343 pictures in my iPhoto right now. So here's a picture of his sister instead. Just imagine her taller with less hair, more teeth and as a boy.

(Just a thought since I don't live in America and actually have to go to work today...since our two countries are so close in so many other ways, why don't we share the each other's holidays? Just think about it. Canada Day is July 1st. The Fourth of July is...well, the fourth of July. Work with me. You could have two holidays in a WEEK. And Thanksgiving? Twice? Tryptophan heaven! One in October and another in November so you'd even have time to recover. And really, the US's Thanksgiving just works so much better with Christmas. Dead presidents, dead queen's, combined there are a lot of holidays. I don't see any down side to this. If you're an American reader, please, call your member of Congress, I'll call my member of Parliament. Together we can make this work!)

Pre Holiday Monday

I've been far too warm and fuzzy lately. Need to balance things out with a little bitterness.

Ahh, much better. Actually, it's looking like another good day, again. Tomorrow is a holiday (if you live in Canada) so traffic was very light this morning. It's beautiful out right now (7:32am). It's going to be hot this afternoon but this morning is just perfect. My iPod was playing an amazing mix on my walk to work. Granted, it's all my music anyway, but you know what I mean. My boss has the day off, I have beer in my fridge AND I'm wearing new underwear (which I took a picture of myself in and texted to Bernadette because ya, that's the kinda stuff I do). Anybody rains on my parade today and I'll decapitate them with my teeth. Have a good one!

Almost Done

This post has nothing whatsoever to do with this woman or her fantastic hair. I just find a lot of great pictures but don't always have any reason to post them, so deal.

Well, my holiday is almost done. This is the eighth out of nine days off (including before and after weekends) and I've only had 3 dry ones. Dry as in not raining, not sober. Sheesh. I dearly love my children, but I've got cabin fever bad. Not to say we haven't had fun. One week of Halo, Star Wars and season's one of both Angel and Buffy. Say what you like, but when the off-world and supernatural shit hits the fan, I know a little 3 and 5 year old who'll have my back. You and your attitude are on your own.

I was a little pissed when I checked the weather forecast and saw that most of my holiday was going to be rainy. That was until I went out to do a little yard work this morning and was stomped on by a Godzilla sized foot of pollen. Now I can honestly say that I hope it rains straight through til October 1st. Freakin allergies.

Holiday Eating

One container of blueberry and one container of peach Danon yogurt in a bowl with a slice of blueberry coffee cake. Mix well. Yes, I'm alone. Don't judge.

I'm On Holiday

Suckas.

Back To Work

And going back sick. The whole house is sick now, but on the bright side, it held off until the very end of my holiday. As did the crappy weather. Most of it was pretty sunny. Got a lot of work done around the house and in the garden, got to spend lots of time with the boys, and time away from work. All and all, pretty good.

Oh, and what was the surprise for Bernadette? New lights. Updated the lights in the kitchen, dinning room and two bathrooms from their late '70's glory. We're not ready for Better Homes and Garden's yet, but we're on our way.

(PS. Another image I pulled weeks ago and forgot to note where I'd gotten it. Oops.)

Holiday: Day 2 & 3

Day two was pretty good. Started it off with a bike ride that was not too long, but not too short either. Didn't hurt, much. Then it was back home to take Connor to pre-school but I was a little late and smelling much like a wet goat so I decided to drive Bern, Connor & Liam down to Steveston then come home to shower, eat and get a little work done before heading back out to pick everybody up. That was the plan anyway. I managed to have a shower, but while doing it I thought up an idea for a story so I wasted some time on the computer getting my ideas down before I forgot them. Then I found this article about a German photographer who'd created this work of interviews with terminally ill people with pictures before and after their deaths. Then I really needed to go find my little family for some quality time.

Shut up. Anyway, I caught up with Liam and Bern on their way to Starbucks. Liam had a kids hot chocolate. It looked a little like this:

Ya. Then it was back home to dig up a 4 x 11 foot swath of grass for a new flower bed. The boys helped by inspecting each and every worm I uncovered. By the time I was done I could barely stand up, so I'm putting that down as a productive day.

Today was pretty good too. Bern had to go to work so the boys and I spent the day doing manly things. Well, after we went to Ikea to return a picture frame and get some ice cream. The ice cream was very important. Connor had a tummy ache and the only thing that would make it feel better was Ikea ice cream. What else could we do? Then it was across the street to Home Depot to buy dirt and bricks. It would have been a longer visit but somebody's tummy ache was now demanding macaroni from White Spot.

Finally got home, dumped all the dirt in the flower bed and bordered some of it with the brick. Then we washed the car. THEN we made some headway on my surprise for Bernadette. Another productive day! Also got both the boys showered too. Ok, I had to do that since they were just dirt with eyes by that point. Whatever. Ended up being a little late picking up Bern because of traffic, but I did managed to teach the boys to say, "Punch it, Sparkles!"

And it's only Wednesday.

Holiday: Day 1

First off, I just ate the last piece of lemon chiffon pie and am currently working my way through a piece of banana-walnut upside down... cake? Pie? Whatever. It's covered with melted brown sugar and butter so really, it could be dirt and I'm still going to eat it with a smile on my face. Guilt... not really. Maybe once he's come down from the sugar high he'll have something to say. For now he's keeping to himself.

Holiday has been pretty relaxing so far. Did pretty much nothing this weekend. Bern worked both days so it was mostly just me and the boys pretending like we were going to do something but mostly just playing Lego Star Wars and Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii. I have lots of plans for this holiday. Lots of plans. Just haven't got to many of them yet. Sure you could call it procrastination but I like to call it careful and well thought out planning. And lists. I'm all about the lists. I have a lovely one on my iPod right now. I've even crossed a few things off. Ok, some of them were things I found out I didn't have to do anymore, but whatever.

I did start the gardening! The boys and I had a lovely time hunting worms. Liam played with all sorts of big juicy worms and then ate potato chips from a little bag I brought out for him. Mmmm. Speaking of chips, have you tried these?

Pringles Select. Ooooh my. They're Pringles, so they're like crack anyway. Now they're parmesan and roasted garlic flavoured crack. Mmmmm. We also have a bag of sun dried tomato and cinnamon and sweet potato we haven't opened yet.

I had plans today involving a surprise for Bern, but they fell through. For today anyway. However I did get myself a lovely new hoodie from Lululemon modelled here by Connor:

Anyway, I can see by the time that I don't have enough time to feed the boys dinner before leaving to pick Bern up from work. Happy Meals! I could lie about doing this but they'll just rat me out to their mother anyway.

Holiday, Finally

"How was the 'Star today, hon?"
"It was a bitch, babe. A real bitch."

Thanksgiving

Why don't we have Thanksgiving the same time as the States does? I'm guessing it probably has something to do with us being farther north and harvest season is earlier because of the cold. Or maybe I'm just talkin out my ass. Whatever, it's plausible. Anyway, I like the way it kinda kicks off the whole holiday season. Much nicer than ours. Now, if we could celebrate both... three turkey dinners inside 2 months. Mmmmm.

Holiday Monday

And what a lovely morning it's been so far. The boys did not wake up until past 8. EIGHT. Connor was up just after and Liam didn't wake up until 8:30! Why couldn't they have spread that out a little? Like instead of waking up at 6:30 yesterday, maybe 7:15 and the same today? Too much to ask for? And, of course, the day they do wake up late, mom and dad both woke up early. Sigh. On the bright side, I did have time to make myself a cup of coffee and go back to bed and read for awhile. The hurricane force winds that are still going strong didn't even bother them. I'm thinking today will be an indoor day.

Bern is currently looking for something to bake while I eat left over congee for breakfast. Mmmm. The boys are keeping each other entertained. It's shaping into a relaxing day.

Another retraction involving last night's post on the creamsicle ice cream. It was great while I was eating it. Afterwards, however.... I'd liken the taste to boiled corpse and puddle water from a sugar cane field. I think ice cream makers need to make craving sized portions, like say the size of a yogurt container. Then you've got it out of your system and you're not stuck with the embarrassing task of disposing of the leftovers. Or, on the flip side, now you know you want to buy a bigger portion. Just a thought.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to get back to doing... nothing.
