Fashion Show Sunday!

Happy Sunday!

Today is Fashion Show Sunday for the Haute Couture Club of Chicago! Always a fun, and crazy day :) So much work goes in to pulling off this show. We are not professionals, so making it all come together is quite an undertaking. I think there will be about 90 garments in the show, all made by our members. So many come to our show because they love the fact that we are real women, in real clothes, and then the icing on the cake is that we made those clothes.

I thought I would just give you a quick glimpse of what I will have in the show. You've seen most of it before.

My denim, hoodless, Waffle Patterns Pepernoot coat with a little skirt and striped shirt. I love this skirt. The pattern in the fabric is airplanes, locomotives, and steamships ;) I have a pair of red boots that I will wear with the outfit.

Love this saved lining skirt. The fabric was found in an old fur coat. I especially like the name that was embroidered, Jetta Jones.

This skirt was made with a piece of vintage brocade from Hawaii. Great big pockets on the sides add interest and fun. I have a pair of black and white striped shoes that I will wear with this outfit.

I made this outfit to wear to a summer wedding last year. The fabric is from Tessutti Fabrics in Australia. Such an amazing piece of silk.

I think we will have 8 umbrellas in the show. We will all come out at the same time for full impact. Should be fun.

And finally, my Stephen Burrows inspired coat. My colors are not as vibrant as the original coat. I will get better pictures and share more about the coat in tomorrow's post. What a fun project to do. The lining is a piece of fabric that the Haute Couture club had made for our 60th anniversary.

And finally, a fun pair of floaty pants that I will pair with a purple knit velvet top. Hopefully I will be able to get a picture of me in the pants so you can get a better idea of what they look like.

Have  fabulous day!
Rhonda

Fascinator and Fashion Show Fun

The Haute Couture Club of Chicago will host its annual fashion show on Sunday, May 7, 2017. It's always a fun event!

What makes the event especially nice is how so many members pitch in to help. I was given a sneak peak of our table decorations, so I thought I would share, tempt, whatever the case may be :)

Now, this is just a small sampling. Each is a full size hat/fascinator. There will be 22 in all. And...even better, everyone who attends the show will have the opportunity to win one, or more!

The hats will be raffled off. Tickets are a steal!!!
$2.00 per ticket
$8.00 for 10 tickets
$15.00 for 20 tickets

So for just a mere $2.00, you could actually take home a custom made piece.

We are especially excited as we will also showcase the designs of 3 specially chosen fashion design students from The Illinois Institute of Art who will be the recipients of our scholarship awards.

If you would like to attend the show, ticket information can be found HERE. It's always fun to be around others who sew :)

Monday Morning Inspiration/Haute Couture Fashion Show

Happy Monday!, and I hope that all of you who are mothers had a lovely Mother's Day.
For this week's Monday post, I thought I would post a few pictures from the recent Haute Couture Club of Chicago's fashion show. Each year we host a fashion where we showcase garments that we have made and we also award a scholarship to a fashion design student. The first 3 pictures are pieces that were designed by this year's scholarship winner. The pieces are modeled by a couple of our members. I thought this student was especially innovative and I thought that you too would enjoy seeing what she submitted.

Now, for my garments. Most of them you have seen, but I thought I would go ahead and share the pictures. The cape in the picture below is from THIS Fabulous Free Pattern Friday post.
You may remember the top from THIS Fabulous Free Pattern Friday post.
The jacket below was made for a post I did for Sew News on drafting a sailor collar. You can see it HERE.

One of my favorite t-shirts :) The sleeve is from THIS Sleeves On Saturdays post. The pattern for the t-shirt was featured on THIS Thrifty Thursday post.
The skirt below is from THIS Fabulous Free Pattern Friday post.
As you can see, I went all out with the black and cream two-tone theme!
The show was titled, Through The Looking Glass and it revolved around the story of Alice in Wonderland. One of the segments was dedicated to over the top fascinators. Not the best picture of the fascinator, but it was fun. The dress was also made for a Sew News post on drafting dollars. You can see that post HERE. And the sleeves were done for THIS Sleeves On Saturdays post.
You may remember this trench coat from the Sew News Sewaholic Robson Trench Coat Sew Along. You can see the posts HERE.

And finally, my zebra dress. Fun to make and fun to wear.

I had a couple other garments in the show, but the pictures weren't worth posting and you've seen them before, so you aren't missing anything ;)
A little shout out to Joan of http://jonadelefashions.blogspot.com/. I was so honored, she actually came all the way from California to see the show! What a delight it was to meet her!
The show was such fun. It's a major effort to put it all together, but it's worth it. We already have our theme for next year's show and it's great! As soon as I know a date, I'll be sure to let you know.
Hope your week is off to a great start!
Rhonda

Through the Looking-Glass/The Haute Couture Club of Chicago Fashion Show

As many of you know, I belong to a wonderful sewing group in Chicago called The Haute Couture Club of Chicago. The club is comprised of a group of women who make the most amazing clothes. Each year we host a fashion show that showcases our lovely garments. This year's show will be May 3rd. Through the Looking-Glass is inspired by the adventures that Alice had and the characters that she met as she journeyed through Wonderland.
I have been asked to write our fashion show blog. There you will find lots of inspiration. If you would like to take a look, or journey along with us, you can find the blog HERE.
For today's post, I found hats that the Mad Hatter himself would love. Here's a sneak peek.

We are looking forward to a fabulous fashion show. If by chance you are going to be in Chicago on May 3, 2015, we cordially invite you to attend. If you sew, you will love our show!

Art Institute Fashion Show, The Runway

I went through the pictures that I took at the Art Institute fashion show and sadly, they are not that good. They were all taken with my phone as I forgot my camera. I did pull out a few that are at least not too too blurry, so I hope you can get a feel of the show. If by chance you are ever in Chicago the first part of May, this is a show that you really should try and see. It's always an interesting and inspiring show.

Can you find the face in the garment below?

The dress with the clouds is from the Wizard of Oz collection.
There was a horse on her back side!!!

This coat had such great movement.

I wish the pictures were better and I wish I had been able to take more. The show moves really fast, so it is difficult to keep up!  But hopefully you found something a little inspiring.
