Last Convoy of American Troops Leaves Iraq

About time !
I personally was never against the war in Iraq, I believe it was a great service to the Iraqi people, we took Saddam out of power and decimated Al Qaida every chance we could.
Will the people of Iraq understand what we have given them? Hell no.

Will the people of Iraq every pull their heads out of their Islamic Haze in order to live a normal life NOT under control by a Dictator or a terrorist group? Hell no!.

For the most part I think the Iraqi people want normalcy and freedom, but unfortunately for them their religion leads to murder and terrorism and an environment of fear that is inescapable due to ISLAM.

For our Troops I hope they can be home for Christmas, Safe and sound.

Good job and thank you to all of them.

The New York Times

The last convoy of American troops to leave Iraq drove into Kuwait on Sunday morning, marking the end of the nearly nine-year war.

The convoy’s departure, which included about 110 vehicles and 500 soldiers, came three days after the American military folded its flag in a muted ceremony here to celebrate the end of its mission.

In darkness, the convoy snaked out of Contingency Operating Base Adder, near the southern city of Nasiriyah, around 2:30 a.m., and headed toward the border. The departure appeared to be the final moment of a drawn-out withdrawal that included weeks of ceremonies in Baghdad and around Iraq, and included visits by Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta, as well as a trip to Washington by Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki of Iraq.

Pearl Harbor attack remembered at 70th anniversary

I ran into a WWII vet yesterday at my local gas station ( he had one of those Michigan License plates that said so ), a very nice old guy.
The shock on his face when I walked past him to pay for my gas and I thanked him for serving our country.
He said people never thank him...

Now I must go to work, (for a Japanese Company).

Boston.com
Hawaii—The Dec. 7, 1941, bombing of Pearl Harbor and those who lost their lives that day are being remembered Wednesday on the 70th anniversary of the Japanese attack that brought the U.S. into World War II.

About 120 survivors will join Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, military leaders and civilians to observe a moment of silence in Pearl Harbor at 7:55 a.m. Hawaii time -- the moment the attack began seven decades ago.

About 3,000 people are expected to attend the event held each year at a site overlooking the sunken USS Arizona and the white memorial that straddles the battleship.

Self-defense OK’d for Kosovo peacekeepers

So nice of NATO to let the peacekeepers defend themselves, it is much better than having them killed.

A no brainer to me but apparently NATO goes into places of unrest which usually involve gunfire and firebombs, and they do not have the permission to at the very least to defend themselves?

What the hell is the world coming to?

Boston.com
PRISTINA, Kosovo - American and French peacekeepers were told yesterday to fire their weapons in defense if attacked at border posts on Kosovo’s northern boundary with Serbia, a day after the crossings were set ablaze by Serbs armed with firebombs, a NATO spokesman said.

There have been days of mounting tension between ethnic Albanians and minority Serbs after Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci ordered special police units to take over two disputed border posts that were previously manned by Serb members of the police under EU supervision.

One Kosovo policeman died in the operation.

“We are in command of those places,’’ NATO spokesman Captain Hans Wichter said. “If we are threatened, we have the right to use weapons.’’ He said the area was “declared a military zone,’’ meaning the alliance makes all decisions related to security.

NATO troops were attacked late Wednesday by machine guns and antitank rockets as they moved to secure the border posts, the top NATO commander in Kosovo, Major General Erhard Buehler, said. No injures were reported. They took control of the border posts yesterday.

Iraq will ask US troops to stay post-2011, says Panetta

Drag it out some more eh?
It is obvious that the Iraqi security forces are better than they were, they still are way to immature to protect Iraq on their own.
but the bigger problem is the people they are protecting against.
How are you supposed to defend against the members of Al Qaida when they blend in with your neighbors?
Regardless of whether we are there or not Iraq will always be violent.

BBC
Iraq will ask the US to keep troops in the country beyond an end-of-2011 pullout deadline, says the nominee to be the next US defence secretary.

Outgoing CIA director Leon Panetta said he had "every confidence that a request like that will be forthcoming".

Mr Panetta was speaking at a US Senate committee considering his nomination.

The US currently has about 47,000 troops in Iraq, none in a combat role. Under a 2008 deal, they are expected to leave by 31 December 2011.

"It's clear to me that Iraq is considering the possibility of making a request for some kind of [troop] presence to remain there [in Iraq]," Mr Panetta told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday.

He said that whether that happened depended on what Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki might ask for.

But if Baghdad did make such a request, he added, Washington should say yes.

Pentagon Pentagon: Cyber Attacks Can Count as Act of War

A new age of war.
the pentagon will have a tough go at even getting this off the ground, so many factors come into play that you have to consider when judging where a cyberattack originated.

Do I think that some cyberattacks are acts of war, hell yeah, a portion of them are directly targeted attacks and should be dealt with.
America is a little behind the times when it comes to fighting cyber warfare, when China actively recruits hackers to implement cyber attacks, why is the United States not doing the same?

Foxnews
WASHINGTON—The Pentagon has concluded that computer sabotage coming from another country can constitute an act of war, a finding that for the first time opens the door for the U.S. to respond using traditional military force.

The Pentagon's first formal cyber strategy, unclassified portions of which are expected to become public next month, represents an early attempt to grapple with a changing world in which a hacker could pose as significant a threat to U.S. nuclear reactors, subways or pipelines as a hostile country's military.

In part, the Pentagon intends its plan as a warning to potential adversaries of the consequences of attacking the U.S. in this way. "If you shut down our power grid, maybe we will put a missile down one of your smokestacks," said a military official.

Recent attacks on the Pentagon's own systems—as well as the sabotaging of Iran's nuclear program via the Stuxnet computer worm—have given new urgency to U.S. efforts to develop a more formalized approach to cyber attacks. A key moment occurred in 2008, when at least one U.S. military computer system was penetrated. This weekend Lockheed Martin, a major military contractor, acknowledged that it had been the victim of an infiltration, while playing down its impact.

US confirms first Predator strike in Libya

That did not take long, Predator drones going to Libya was just announced yesterday.
No details, and that is probably how this will go the whole time...No Details.

BBC
The US military has confirmed the first strike by an unmanned Predator drone aircraft in Libya.

The Pentagon did not provide details of the target, but said that it occurred in the early afternoon local time.

Drones can hit military targets more easily in urban areas, minimising the risk of civilian casualties.

Earlier, Libya's government warned that tribes loyal to Col Muammar Gaddafi might take over the fight against the rebels in the western city of Misrata.

Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim said the Libyan army was being withdrawn and suggested that the tribes would not show the same level of restraint over civilian casualties.

Libya: US to deploy armed drones

A small contribution, They feel that Gadaffys troops are dispersing ahead of the Airstrikes, running and hiding every time they hear the jets.

This is definitely gonna be a drawn out affair.

BBC
Armed US Predator drones are to carry out missions over Libya, Defence Secretary Robert Gates has said.

Mr Gates said their use had been authorised by President Barack Obama and would give "precision capability" to the military operation.

Unmanned US drones are already used to target militants along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Libyan rebels have been battling Col Gaddafi's troops since February but have recently made little headway.

"President Obama has said that where we have some unique capabilities, he is willing to use those," Mr Gates told a news conference.

He said two Predators were being made available to Nato as needed, and marked a "modest contribution" to the military operations.

Gaddafi 'cluster bombing Misrata'

Cluster bombs are very effective at making a mess out of an area real quick, most countries don't use them anymore.
Gaddafi doesn't care what anyone thinks about what he does, he's a terrorist and politicians and other terrorist dictator type people will still love him.

So basically he will get a free pass on this one.

BBC
Pro-government forces in Libya have been accused by a human rights campaign group of using cluster bombs, which are banned by more than 100 countries.

Human Rights Watch said one of its photographers saw three mortar-launched projectiles explode over a residential area of Misrata.

A Libyan government spokesman denied the allegation.

Government troops have intensified their siege of Misrata, the only western Libyan city still in rebel hands.

The BBC's Orla Guerin reports from inside the battle-scarred city that local residents fear a massacre without greater action by Nato air forces to break the siege.

Ivory Coast's Gbagbo Detained by French Special Forces

Great news, one less murdering madman out of the way!

Now they just have to get Alassane Ouattara under arrest and they will have the other one!

Then they can start all over again!

Foxnews
ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast -- Ivory Coast strongman Laurent Gbagbo was detained by French special forces Monday at his presidential compound in the country's biggest city Abidjan, state-run radio France Info reports.

"Gbagbo has been arrested by French special forces in his residence and has been handed over to the rebel leaders," Gbagbo spokesman Toussaint Alain told Reuters.

His capture came after French and UN armored vehicles were deployed on a road close to Gbagbo's besieged Abidjan residence on Monday.

Gaddafi government accepts truce plan

Well ain't that special.

But unless Gaddafi steps down the rebels will not be happy.

It sounds like no one talked to the rebels in any of the negotiations, outsiders did all the talking with Gaddafi; not with anyone who started this whole pile of crap.

Supposedly they will have a little sit down today and the rebels will be told what they need to accept, you can probably bet this ain't over yet.

BBC
A rebel spokesman said any deal designed to keep Colonel Gaddafi or his sons in place would not be acceptable

South African President Jacob Zuma says the Libyan government has accepted an African Union peace proposal to end the eight-week-old conflict.

Mr Zuma's AU delegation met Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi in Tripoli on Sunday. An AU team is going to the eastern rebel stronghold of Benghazi.

But rebel spokesmen said there could be no truce unless Col Gaddafi stepped down and his forces withdrew.

In Ajdabiya, pro-Gaddafi forces have pushed back rebels in fierce fighting.

Nato says its planes destroyed 25 government tanks on Sunday alone.

The alliance said it had "taken note" of the AU initiative and welcomed efforts to save Libyan civilians.

Coalition air raids hit Gaddafi's birth place

The government said the air strikes gave the rebels an unfair advantage in the conflict and it accused international forces, now under Nato command, of going beyond the UN mandate to protect civilians.

What a joke, now it is unfair because the shoe is on the other foot!

Gadaffy did not have a problem when he was bombing the hell out of his people.

BBC
Backed by the airpower of Western forces, the rebels in Libya say that they have seized control of Sirte, the birthplace of Colonel Gaddafi.

This comes after they re-captured a string of towns over the weekend following US, British and French air strikes on government positions.

There were also at at least nine explosions overnight in the capital, Tripoli.

The government said the air strikes gave the rebels an unfair advantage in the conflict and it accused international forces, now under Nato command, of going beyond the UN mandate to protect civilians.

Allies Expand No-Fly Zone Over Libya

The Obamasiah has his hands full with this one, not that he wants any part of it; more from the pressure of his fellow politicians here in the states.
If any of this Libyan showdown goes downhill Obama will surely go with it.
And why can nobody decide on anything here? Qadaffy should stay? no, Qadaffy should go! I'm in charge now! no i'm in charge now! What a joke these assclowns can be.

The Wall Street Journal
The U.S. and its allies worked to expand the protective shield in the skies over Libya on Tuesday, while allies skirmished over who would take command of the continuing international operation.

Allied air patrols will soon cover the entire northern tier of Libya, enforcing last week's United Nations resolution authorizing military action to stop the Libyan leader from attacking civilian opponents, U.S. Gen. Carter Ham, current commander of the military campaign, said Monday.

The coalition would expand the no-fly zone from Benghazi, the eastern city that is the de facto capital of the beleaguered rebels, to the coastal oil-refinery city of Brega, to Misrata east of Tripoli, and eventually to Tripoli, he said.

Prime Minister David Cameron told Parliament on Monday that "coalition forces have largely neutralized Libyan air defenses and as a result the no-fly zone has effectively been put in place in Libya."

Al-Qaida branch warns Libya rebels against America

Al Qaida speaks!
Oh yeah you guys we know that the U.S. just came in (At your request) and saved your pathetic ass's, please don't trust them, they once supported Momad Qadaffy, the will turn on you too!

Attention Al Qaida, momad turned over his new leaf all on his own! that weak speak ain't gonna work here.

Attention Libya, the U.S. once supported the group that turned into Al Qaida, they took all the training and arms they got from us and have been terrorizing the entire world including the Muslim part, every since.

Miami Herald
CAIRO -- The leader of al-Qaida's North Africa branch has urged Libyan rebels not to trust America and the U.S. role in the international coalition bombing Moammar Gadhafi's forces.

Abdelmalek Droukdel of Al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb claims the same America now attacking Gadhafi turned a "blind eye" in the past on his crimes against Libyans.

Droukdel, also known as Abu Musab Abdul-Wadud, says America got Gadhafi to give up weapons of mass destruction and Libyan oil so he could stay in power. The statement was posted Monday on a militant website.

It says "winds of liberation have started blowing in Libya" and urges Tunisians, Egyptians and Algerians to help their Libyan brethren fight Gadhafi.

Gadhafi forces in disarray

"We believe his forces are under significant stress and suffering from both isolation and a good deal of confusion."

Confusion not necessarily from having their ass's handed to them so fast though.

anyway another nice job by the U.S. and a few friends, now it looks like it is up to the Rebels; we shall see if they can pull it together or not.

Anyone care to take bets on this one?

MSNBC.com
WASHINGTON — A U.S.-led coalition has succeeded in scattering and isolating Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi's forces after a weekend of punishing air attacks, Pentagon officials say.

Gadhafi is not a target of the campaign, a senior military official said Sunday, but he could not guarantee the Libyan leader's safety.

American military authorities are moving to hand control of the operation to other countries.

Navy Vice Adm. William E. Gortney, staff director for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Pentagon news conference there is no evidence civilians in Libya have been harmed in the air assault, code named Odyssey Dawn. Gortney also said no allied planes have been lost and all pilots have returned safely from missions that used stealth B-2 bombers, jet fighters, more than 120 Tomahawk cruise missiles and other high-tech weapons.

"We judge these strikes to have been very effective in significantly degrading the regime's air defense capability," Gortney said. "We believe his forces are under significant stress and suffering from both isolation and a good deal of confusion."

war plane shot down over Benghazi

Qadaffy thought a cease fire was just for shooting people with guns, They did not say anything about a cease Bombing!

The Telegraph

Libyan rebels shot down the aircraft that was bombing their eastern stronghold, with the opposition accusing Muammar Gaddafi of ignoring the ceasefire and launching an air and sea assault.

The Libyan government has denied that their forces are involved in any military action in or around the eastern city.

Mussa Ibrahim, a government spokesman, said: "There are no attacks whatsoever on Benghazi. As we said, we are observing the ceasefire and we want international observers to come.

UN backs action against Gaddafi

Well they took there sweet ass time, now what?
I Think this is one everybody should stay out of! Qadaffy needs to go(Preferable with a bullet in his head) But it is sickening when once again we have to come in a bail out a Muslim country as the other Muslim countries around Libya sit back and cry like little bitches!
When is a Muslim country going to stand up and help another Muslim country?

BBC
The UN Security Council has backed a no-fly zone over Libya and "all necessary measures" to protect civilians short of an occupation.

It was not immediately clear what form intervention would take and when it would begin, though France signalled that action could start soon.

The resolution appears to give legal weight to attacks against Col Muammar Gaddafi's ground forces.

Col Gaddafi's forces have recently retaken several towns seized by rebels.

Rebel forces reacted with joy to the UN resolution in their Benghazi stronghold, but a government spokesman condemned UN "aggression".

Loyalist forces are bearing down on Benghazi, home to a million people.

Gaddafi deploys forces as world raises Libya pressure

I know it is the right thing to do, go in and stop Qaddafi Duck from slaughtering more of his people; but why does it always have to be the U.S.?
Can not any other country step in?

Why can't a Muslim country step in?
(Nevermind on that one)

I say let it happen, they don't like us, they will end up saying we did it for the oil, we are occupying another Muslim country,
yes let it happen, if Qaddafi slaughters his people then so be it, if the people get lucky and take him out along with all the other tyrants, So be it.

(Reuters) - Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi deployed forces to a western border area on Tuesday in defiance of Western military and economic pressure, raising fears that one of the bloodiest Arab revolts may become more violent still.

Suspicions grew that the veteran leader, in power for four decades, does not understand the strength of the forces now massed against him.

"All my people love me. They would die to protect me," he told the U.S. ABC network and the BBC on Monday, dismissing the armed muscle of a rebellion against his 41-year rule that has ended his control over eastern Libya.

Barely 12 hours after the United States said it was moving warships and air forces closer to the north African oil exporting country, Libyan forces re-asserted their presence at the remote Dehiba southern border crossing on Tuesday, decorating the border post with green Libyan flags.

Reporters on the Tunisian side saw Libyan army vehicles, and soldiers armed with Kalashnikov rifles. The previous day, there was no Libyan security presence at the border crossing. Dehiba is about 60 km (40 miles) from the town of Nalut.

Jihadists Promote Theft to Fund War on West

How nice, The #1 jihadi reject Anwar al-awlaki, says it is o.k. to steal from people now to support the Jihad.

But in Muslim countries they chop off hands for stealing because under Islam it is strictly Forbidden.

But then again so is Killing another Muslim and that happens everyday!

Foxnews
Followers of one of the fastest-growing radical Muslim terror groups are being told to steal, embezzle and seize property – especially from Americans – in order to finance their jihad.

While Muslim teaching generally forbids theft, the new edition of Inspire magazine -- launched by the group behind the air cargo printer bombs in October, the underwear bomb plot in December 2009 and the most recent pre-Christmas alert -- is now telling followers that such crimes are justifiable, especially if the U.S. government and U.S. citizens are targets.

In the fourth edition of the magazine, launched by Al Qaeda in Yemen in July, American-born radical cleric Anwar Al-Awlaki encourages his disciples to fund more attacks through crime. The Middle East Media Research Institute provided Fox News with its copy of the magazine.

“In an attempt to deal with the cash-shortage jihadist groups are facing, Al-Awlaki gives religious justification to any actions used by jihadists to obtain money. In the article, titled ‘The Ruling on Dispossessing the Disbelievers’ Wealth in Dar Al-Harb,’ he deals with the issue by ruling that Western countries are considered Dar Al-Harb, i.e. the territory of war, countries on which the rules of war apply,” says an analysis from media research group

Drug gang suspects threaten 'war' in Guatemala

The Zetas have begun controlling cocaine trafficking in the area since the gang killed Guatemalan drug boss Juan Jose "Juancho" Leon in 2008. They are blamed for numerous shootings in the region, plus the killing of five police officers in 2009, a confrontation that resulted in the confiscation of 500 grenades and other military weapons and ammunition.

Yeah, it is not a big problem.

Just pay no Attention.

Mexico will not let a war breakout.(sarc off)

Foxnews
Men claiming to belong to the Zetas drug gang forced radio stations to broadcast a threat of war in a northern Guatemalan province where the government declared a state of siege last week, authorities said Tuesday.

The men arrived at three radio stations in the northern city of Coban and threatened to burn the premises down and kill journalists and their families if the message was not broadcast, Interior Ministry spokesman Nery Morales said.

The message, which the radio broadcasters read out Monday, threatened violence if Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom does not fulfill unspecified promises. It said "war will start in this country, in shopping malls, schools and police stations."

Guatemala declared a monthlong state of siege Dec. 19 in the northern province of Alta Verapaz, a prime corridor for smuggling drugs from Honduras to Mexico and a bastion of Mexico's brutal Zetas drug gang.
