Bitten by Kelly Armstrong Book Review & TV Series Release

So it has happened! One of my favorite authors has gotten onto SyFy, which is one of my dreams to get to with my own books one day. :D

So this is based off the Women of the Otherworld Series by Kelly Armstrong. An interesting book that I was able to get through in nearly two days. Starting today we get a look into the world created by some of SyFy's greats and the way that they interpret the turning of a werewolf. I have to say I'm thrilled to see more werewolf things popping up. I took a guess out back in 2008 that the next trend would be werewolves and started my series on the subject matter and sadly I still haven't finished book one in the series due to far too many life changing one time events since then. (Meeting my husband, getting married, first kid ect.) so I do hope to put my first book forward this year and follow it up quickly with a second book. I already paid off the book cover by the lovely Michelle Monique (mentioned in previous posts) and hope to release it for Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales this year. Get ready everyone cause this year is going to be jam packed with posts and reviews as well as interviews from indie authors and giveaways. But back to the subject at hand! (Gotta love those ADD moments! *squirrel*)

Overview:

Elena Michaels is the world’s only female werewolf. And she’s tired of it. Tired of a life spent hiding and protecting, a life where her most important job is hunting down rogue werewolves. Tired of a world that not only accepts the worst in her-her temper, her violence-but requires it. Worst of all, she realizes she’s growing content with that life, with being that person.

So she left the Pack and returned to Toronto where she’s trying to live as a human. When the Pack leader calls asking for her help fighting a sudden uprising, she only agrees because she owes him. Once this is over, she’ll be squared with the Pack and free to live life as a human. Which is what she wants. Really. 

Review
Bitten is a wonderful book, this book goes on a wonderful adventure taking a whole new aspect to the idea of werewolf packs. Here they call those who aren't "pack," "mutts" rather than rouges, rabids, or anything else which takes a whole new turn on the idea of how you initially view these werewolves. Instead of thinking of them as horrible creatures that have gone against the mold and are killing machines, you get the impression that they aren't accepted because they are dirty and vile. The concept initially struck me as strange but as I read more I realized it works with this series and is a wonderful play on the words used for dogs.

Overall I gave this book a rating of 4 shearly  because of some of the self hating aspects of the main character. There are some things that she does that are completely understandable as a self loathing action, and this is ABSOLUTELY NOT A CHILDRENS BOOK!!! Yes, this is not even young adult, it is a full course Adult Supernatural Romance book. Yes, that means the sex scenes are not only vivid but come in mass quantity. So I want to be sure everyone knows this is not something for your kids or even teens really.

Review:
While I had issues with the first book of this series, I found that its follow up was much cleaner. This book was well thought  out and depicted. The action was palpable, which is what was lacking in the first book, and I found myself feeling for the characters. Armstrong really amped it up in this book with not only drama-strings dangling back and forth between the characters and their love interests, but also in the complete differences between who you thought someone was and who they turned out to be.

I rate this book with 4 hearts. I was impressed with the detail work laid into Mya's character, in the first book you are given a carbon copy cut out piece that you're meant to know instantly is a heroine but you never see it, this time you get to feel with her. You get an in-depth sense for the characters as they struggle to deal with changes in their lives, as well as an inside knowledge of how the "bad guys" are thinking. I also was thrilled to see that she has interlaced this spin-off series with her Darkest Powers Series bringing Chloe back up on our radar and making that series a Must Read before you return to the next installment of the Darness Rising Series.
