Old Mill Village Museum is an open air museum located just south of the Susquehanna County town of New Milford on PA Route 848 as a way to preserve the heritage of days gone by in the Endless Mountains region of Pennsylvania. The Old Mill Village Museum was founded in response to the Borough of New Milford's centennial celebration in 1959, as local residents wanted to honor and share the area's history. Land was donated along Meylert Creek on the historic Great Bend-Cohocton Turnpike (in part, today's PA 848), which once brought settlers and commerce to this part of northeastern Pennsylvania. Historic buildings were also donated and moved onto the land, with period artifacts collected for display on site. Local artisans were recruited to demonstrate the arts and skills of the days of yore. As a result, for over 50 years now, the Old Mill Village Museum has been open for people of all ages to learn about what life was like during the early days of New Milford in the 19...

Even older than the Tunkhannock Viaduct is the Starrucca Viaduct, built in 1848. Located in the far northeastern Pennsylvania borough of Lanesboro, this impressive bridge carried the New York and Erie Railroad over a valley as well as the Starrucca Creek and is currently the oldest stone arch railroad in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (1) . An engineering marvel of its time, and even in today's world, the 1080 foot length, 100 foot height and 25 foot width (2) of the viaduct is simply spectacular. Using local materials such as Pennsylvania bluestone, the Starrucca Viaduct has stood the test of time.With a price estimated at $325,000 in 1848 dollars, the bridge was one of the largest and costliest stone arch railroad bridges built in America at its time (3) . FOREST CITY - Susquehanna County town founded in 1864.  William Pentecost, who settled the area, named the town after the surroundings of a dense forest .  The town had a peak population of just over 6,000 residents in 1920 but has declined to about 1,700 residents today. Photo taken by Doug Kerr.
