Inky fun snowflake card!

Hello Crafty Friends!

Are you looking for an inky, easy, last minute winter card to create?  Look no further than this festively fun card using Suzanne's holiday stamps.

The main stamp set used is the lovely A Whisper On My Nose stamp set:

It is a three stamp set (two individual snowflakes and the poem).  I also used snowflakes from other Suzanne stamp sets but you can easily just use the two snowflakes from this set.

Card instructions:
1-    Create a tent fold 4.25 x 5.5" card base from red card stock.
2-    Cut a piece of white or ivory card stock to 4 x 5.25".
3-    To prevent static, use an anti-static pouch on your white card stock.  Use Versamark or white embossing powder to stamp the snowflakes.  Use embossing powder (such as the Gesso White Modern Gilding Powder) to heat emboss the snowflakes.
4-    Use a red water reactive ink (such as Spectrum Noir Water reactive or Ranger Distress Ink) the create an ombre background.  Start with the red on the bottom and gradually lighten as you go up.  Wipe snowflakes off with a clean, dry cloth to remove the red ink.  Optional: flick water on the background and pat dry for a wet, distressed look.  Use double sided tape to mount to card base.
5-    Stamp the poem using black ink (heat emboss using the Gothic Black Gilding Powders looks fabulous!).  Die cut using a square stitched die.  Apply red ink along edges.
6-    Die cut red card stock using the next larger size stitched square die.  Mount poem onto red die cut.  Use double sided foam tape to mount to card front.
7-    For extra awesome, add gems or glitter to the snowflake centers and randomly on the background.

The red really makes the snowflakes pop and adds a festive feel to the card.

Vintage "Tidings of Comfort and Joy" card

Hello Crafty Friends!

One of my favorite holiday stamps from Suzanne Cannon is the Tidings of Comfort and Joy.  It is a timeless beauty and I love finding new ways to use it every Christmas.  This year I combined it with the lovely poinsettia banner from the Poinsettia Banner Sentiments stamp set:

The Poinsettia Banner stamp was stamped in black alcohol proof ink onto 4" x 5.25" Kraft card stock.  After drying I used alcohol ink to color the banners.  Next, I stamped the poinsettia twice onto Kraft card stock, colored the flowers and then fussy cut.

The Tidings stamp was applied onto Kraft card stock and die cut using an oval die.  Brown ink was applied along the edges of the oval die cut and the Kraft banner background.  Gold marker was applied along the edges.
A piece of 1/2" green ribbon was adhered to the background.  The background was mounted onto a 4.25 x 5.5 red tent fold card.  The oval die cut was assembled to the card using foam tape.  The fussy cut poinsettias were adhered as shown.

The final touches were glitter in each corner and the poinsettia centers.  Nuvo Glitter Drops in red were applied to the holly berries.

The vintage style and holiday colors coordinate so well with Suzanne's gorgeous stamps!

Christmas slide out pocket card

Hello Crafty Friends!

Christmas card making is in full swing!  My craft table is covered in bits of holiday colored paper, pretty Christmas stamps, and sweet premade bows.  Holidays bring out the joy in our spirit and that is translated to handmade cards to loved ones.

Today's project is an interactive card with a lovely holiday message.  Both stamps used on the card are from the There are Many Gifts stamp set available at Emerald Creek:
Such a sweet stamp set!  The ornate tree looks great stamped in green with wee baubles applied using Nuvo drops or half pearls.  After stamping, it was mounted on patterned paper and mounted onto a card front using double sided foam tape.  Next, the sentiment was stamped onto paper and mounted onto a tag.  The tag slides easily under the stamped tree image and adds a special detail to the card.
If you do not want to make it a slide out pocket card, the tree is gorgeous by itself on the card front and the sentiment could be stamped on the inside.
I am a big fan of cards with a fun little detail such as a slide out tag.  It makes a card even more special.  :)
Thank you for stopping by!  I do hope you enjoyed the holiday card.

Step by step tutorial: Vintage Christmas card using Modern Gilding Powders

Hello Crafty Friends!

Are you a member of the Suzanne Cannon Fan Group on Facebook?  Every Sunday it is Show Me Sunday and this past Sunday I gave a sneak peek of this vintage holiday card.  It is easy to make and the results are stunning.

The card features the lovely stamp: Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

The beautiful rubber stamp is available at Emerald Creek Craft Supplies.  Of course, Suzanne's gorgeous Modern Gilding Powders are available at Emerald Creek.  (They are also available at Simon Says Stamp.)  Today's card uses the yummy Celtic Mint Modern Gilding Powder.

Now, before we start the instructions, I wanted to tell you some exciting news: I have a new camera!  I took photos while I created the card...but my craft room is a little dark.  I do hope that you pardon my photos as I am still learning how to use my camera and I obviously work in a cave.  LOL.

Instructions:

1-  Use a watermark ink (such as Versamark) with stamp onto white card stock.  Heat emboss using Celtic Mint Gilding Powder.

2-  Pick out an oval die.  (I chose an ornate oval die.)  First die cut the stamped image, keep the die cut in the die and then dry emboss.  Leave the die cut in the die and apply a light vintage tan along the edges as shown.
3-  Die cut white card stock from a slightly larger oval die.  Apply watermark ink along edges and heat emboss using Celtic Mint.
4-  Next, pick some snowflakes from other Suzanne Cannon stamp sets (she has so many pretty snowflakes to choose from!).  Cut a piece of white card stock that will be matted onto your card base.  (my card base is 4.25 x 5.5 so I cut a piece of card stock to 4 x 5.25)  Use watermark ink and randomly stamp snowflakes along the outer edge.  Heat emboss using Celtic Mint.
5-  Apply the same vintage light tan ink along edges.
6-  Mount snowflake mat and then the larger oval onto the card base using double sided adhesive tape.
7-  Apply foam tape to the back of the stamped die cut and apply to card base.
8-  Adhere bow (I used hot glue) to top of card.  For extra detail, add either Glitter Drops, gems, or pearls to the rounds on the Christmas tree.

The vintage holiday card is complete!  I adore the soft Celtic Mint color and how easily it can be used to create a vintage style card.

I do hope you enjoyed the card!  Please feel free to share your take on this card on the Suzanne Cannon Fan Group!

Have a happy, crafty day.
Big Hugs,
Kathy Jo

Nature Gives to Every Time and Season

Hello Crafty Friends!

How are you enjoying your autumn?  For many people, this is their favorite time of year...and I understand why!  Over the weekend I spent time walking on trails (and crafting, of course).  Oh- I so love this time of year!  The trees are colorfully gorgeous, the temperatures are just right, and crafting is inspired by fall beauty.

Do you have a "go to" autumn stamp set?  The Autumn Collection stamp set is my favorite.

The card I am sharing today was used using two of the stamps from the set:
The card front features a background created using the wheat stamp.  The image was stamped using brown water reactive ink and then stamped again for a lighter image.  The image was re-inked and the process repeated.

The background was then cut to size, edges aged using brown water reactive ink, matted and mounted onto a card base.  Next, the "Nature gives to every" stamp had dark brown ink applied and was stamped onto ivory paper.  It was die cut using a stitched square and mounted on die cut gold card stock.
The finishing touches were coordinating flowers, a wee twine bow, and a sweet gem.

I hope you enjoyed the festive, fall card.  You can pick up the Autumn Collection stamp set and other amazing Suzanne Cannon stamps, dies, and Modern Gilding Powders at Emerald Creek.

Thank you for stopping by!  Have a happy, crafty day.

Technique Time! Newly released Modern Gilding Powders

Hello Crafty Friends!

Have you seen the newly released Modern Gilding Powders?  I received mine last Thursday and played with the powders over the weekend.  The new colors are so lovely and coordinate with the previously released set.  I started playing with the perfectly pretty purples and created a fun striped background.

Quietfire Product used:
Modern Gilding Powders in Dragonberry, Armenian Pink, Tyrian Purple, and Dilly Dilly Lavendar, Gothic Black
Do what makes you happy stamp (retired)

Other product:
Double sided tape in three widths
Emboss Writer (bullet tips)
Ruler
Versamark ink
Circle nesting dies
Black card stock
White card stock
Corner punch

Instructions:
1.  Cut white card stock to size.  Adhere widest tape to the card front.  (I applied two strips.)  Use a bone folder to smooth completely.
 2.  Remove plastic from tape and sprinkle on the Tyrian Purple Gilding powder.  Set using heat tool.

 3.  Continue on with next smallest width and Dilly Dilly Lavendar.  Heat set.  Repeat with next width and Armenian Pink.

4.  The final lines are quite small.  Use the embossing marker and a ruler to create three lines.  Emboss using the Dragonberry powder.  Punch edges with round corner punch.
5.  Stamp the sentiment onto white card stock using pigment ink.  Heat set using Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder.  Die cut.
6.  Die cut circle slightly larger than the quote die cut in step 5.  Apply Versamark to edges and heat emboss using Dragonberry.
7.  Cut card base from black card stock.  Use corner punch on edges.  Mount embossed panel using double sided adhesive.
8.  Mount sentiment to embossed circle die cut using double sided adhesive.  Mount to card front using double sided foam tape.
9.  Decorate inside as desired.
Thank you for stopping by!  I do hope you enjoyed the card and technique.  Feel free to give it a try and share on the Suzanne Cannon Fan Group!

Stamp Focus: "Look for the dream"

Hello Crafty Friends!

Are you looking for an inspirational card for a friend considering a new career?  Or a loved one working hard on a goal?  Perhaps a family member is graduating soon?  The card I am sharing today has a wonderful and inspiring quote that is perfect for so many occasions.  The gorgeous calligraphy stamp is called "Look for the dream":
Look For The Dream - Mounted
The stamp is a beautiful focus for an inspirational card front.  For my card I created a simple inky background (spritzed with water) and cut to 3.75 wide x 5 high.  Versamark was applied along the edges and Modern Gilding Powder in Kells Gold was applied along the edges.
Next, the quote was stamped onto vellum paper using Staz On ink in black.  It was cut to 3.75 wide and the long edges torn.  Versamark was applied along the edges and Kells Gold was heat embossed.  The vellum was mounted onto the inky paper, mounted onto 4 x 5.25 lilac cardstock, and then mounted on a 4.25 x 5.5 card base.
A sweet little double bow was adhered as shown and the card was complete!

Stamp focus: "Believe in You" elegant sweetness

Hello Crafty Friends!

Yesterday in the Suzanne Cannon Fan Group, I shared a card using the lovely stamp, The Best Thing- Believe in You stamp:

The Best Thing - Believe in You - Mounted
It is beyond beautiful stamp with the elegant calligraphy and the sweet, heartwarming quote.  The card I created for Show Me Sunday had the stamp heat embossed using the Gothic Black Modern Gilding PowderKells Gold Gilding Powder was applied along die cut edges.
I really adore the stamp and couldn't bear putting it away until I created another project using it.  Lighter colored papers were used on the card and roses were fussy cut around the quote.  Again, the stamp was heat embossed using the Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder.  The Modern Gilding Powders have a beautiful smooth finish and really add a special touch to a crafting project.
The black "pops" against the light colors- emphasizing the wonderful quote.  Suzanne's gorgeous stamps and dies allow crafters- new and experienced- to create crafty treasures.

And the so yummy Dragon Berry
Dragon Berry
Both Gilding powders were used in numerous places on the card front.  First, I dry embossed some light Kraft card stock, rolled Versamark (using a brayer) and heat embossed using the Kells Gold.  Next I applied Versamark to the edges of small flower petals and heat embossed using the Dragon Berry.
Next, a die cut wood heart had Kells Gold applied.  A scalloped edge square had more Dragon Berry applied.  Last (and certainly not least!) the stamp All Hearts Come Home was heat embossed.  It is so pretty in the Dragon Berry!
The end result is phenomenal!  It is a gilded beauty.  :)
