Hope

Hi, Diana here with a card made specifically to lift up someone during these times.   It's been a looonng 2020 and I think we could all use a reminder to keep some hope going.  I also just got the new flower dies from Elizabeth Craft Designs so had a lot of fun trying those out.

For this card, the only paper I used was white card stock.  All colors were added using either Distress Inks or watercolor.  I die cut the Hope four times and sponged one of the layers with Worn Lipstick very lightly and then Cracked Pistachio from the bottom.  I adhered all the plain white layers together and added the sponged lightly underneath slightly off.  It made the Hope die pop just a wee bit but kept it still very subtle.

I used the same colors for the 5 petal flower and sponged from the center to the outside.  I did not try to cover the petal all the way to the edges - I really like that bit of white left.  The little hydrangea blooms got sponged on just the edges with a light hand using Broken China and Wilted Violet.  I had die cut a bunch of leaves from both watercolor and white card stock when I first got the dies and just picked a few from my stash.

For the background, I sponged the same pink and green on the rectangle base and then switched the corners for the smaller rounded base.  I then adhered everything as seen.  As a final fix, I added a little yellow flower and white enamel dots in the center of the blooms.

Thank you so much for looking!

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Card

Hey Quietfire Fans! For today's project I'm excited to be sharing with you my Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Card. I combined a variety of dies, stamps and Modern Gilding Powder, which were all perfect for creating this Christmas card. You'll want to grab a cup of your favourite beverage and learn how to recreate my Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Card at home.

To start, apply Emboss It Ink to the Have Yourself a Merry, Flourished Tree stamp and stamp onto a piece of cream cardstock. Sprinkle Copper Scroll Modern Gilding Powder over the stamped image. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.
Using a Zig Emboss Brush Marker, colour in four of the dots. Sprinkle Dragon Berry Modern Gilding Powder over the inked dots. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Colour in the remaining dots with the Zig Emboss Brush Marker. Sprinkle Acanthus Teal Modern Gilding Powder over the remaining inked dots. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.
Fussy cut around the saying. Ink the edges of the saying using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Die cut the Flourished Oval Frame out of a piece of cream cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the frame. Sprinkle Gothic Black Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the frame. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool.

Die cut a 3" Stitched Indented Rectangle out of kraft cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the Merry Christmas Background and stamp onto the rectangle. Reapply ink to the stamp and stamp as needed to cover the entire surface of the rectangle. Sprinkle Copper Scroll Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the rectangle. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Distress the edges of the rectangle. Ink the edges of the rectangle using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Choose a piece of Christmas patterned paper. Die cut a 3 1/2" Stitched Indented Rectangle out of a piece of cream cardstock. Die cut a 3 1/4" Fitted Indented Rectangle out of the Christmas patterned paper. Distress the edges of both rectangles. Ink the edges of both rectangles using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Die cut a 2 1/2" Stitched Oval out of the same piece of Christmas patterned paper. Die cut a 2" Stitched Oval out of a piece of kraft cardstock. Distress the edges of both ovals. Ink the edges of both ovals using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the 3 1/4" rectangle to the 3 1/2" rectangle.

Foam square the 3" rectangle to the 3 1/4" rectangle. Adhere the 2" oval to the 2 1/2" oval. Foam square the 2 1/2" oval to the middle of the 3" rectangle.

Adhere the flourished oval frame to the 2 1/2" oval, making sure the flourish is in the top left corner.

Foam square the Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas saying to the middle of the 2" oval.

To finish the card, cut a cardbase out of white cardstock that measures 3 1/2" x 9 1/2", score at 4 3/4". Adhere the cardfront to the cardbase.

Here are a few closeups of the finished card.

Happy Birthday Nail Polish Card

Hello, Connie Nichol here today with a simple birthday card made with die cuts that have been coloured with old nail polish.  I used Elizabeth Craft Designs Happy Birthday (small) and a balloon die set.

I recently worked on an article for Creative Scrapbooker Magazine that focused on recycling old makeup, especially eye shadow and nail polish,  I discovered that nail polish was a really excellent material for colouring die cuts and giving them a nice shine or sparkle.  Basically, you are lacquering them, just like your fingernails.

If you don't have nice colours of old nail polish in your medicine cabinet, Dollar Tree and other dollar stores have a nice selection of bright colours.

For the title, I used a sparkly polish.  This worked about the same as die cutting a piece of glitter paper!

Like your nails, two or three coats of polish is best on the die cuts for a nice smooth colourful finish.
Be sure to work in a well ventilated area because nail polish is a little smelly.

I hope you are inspired to try something new with your die cuts.  Thanks for stopping by, Connie

Beautiful like snowflakes

The mornings here have cooled dramatically this week and even though I have no desire to skip beautiful fall, I felt like playing with cooler colors and came up with this card using the We Are Like Snowflakes stamp combined with the Beautiful die.

To create the background, I started with a white base and made a mask using painters tape.  I used the snowflake from the Flourished Christmas Mini 2 set and Brrr die sets.  If you don't have these dies, any of your favorite snowflake dies will work.  I love masking this way because it gives me a wonderfully intricate but subtle background.  Since my dies were on the smaller side, I was able to use a wide painters tape on the release paper from the Elizabeth Craft Design's double sided adhesive.  It's always a good idea to save those sheets.  It make removing the painters tape a breeze.

I then sponged over the edges with a couple of different blue inks, leaving a space for where my stamped sentiment will go.  I do love peeling that blue off - even though it looks pretty good like that too!

I thought I took a picture of my next step but I did not - got carried away crafting.  After stamping my sentiment, I decided I wanted the word Beautiful running up the side of the card to emphasize that part of the sentiment.  However, the white Beautiful die got lost with all the snowflakes.  To darken the background, I masked off a little more than an inch and sponged more blue on just that section.  To frame that section more, a thin strip of silver washi tape was added.

I also used the new Modern Gilding Powder Gesso White to make that white really white.  To tie in the silver washi tape, I also gilded several snowflakes with the Modern Gilding Powder Forever Platinum.

Thank you so much and I hope you are enjoying the weather wherever you are!

With Every Leaf Tag

Hey Quietfire Fans! For today's project I'm thrilled to be sharing with you my With Every Leaf Tag. I combined a variety of dies, stamps and Modern Gilding Powder, which were all perfect for creating this autumn tag. You'll want to grab a cup of your favourite beverage and learn how to recreate my With Every Leaf Tag at home.

To start, you'll need a kraft tag that measures 3" x 6 1/4". Apply Emboss It Ink to the Dotted Harlequin Background stamp and stamp at the top of the tag. Reapply ink to the stamp and stamp on the remaining portion of the tag. Sprinkle Kells Gold Modern Gilding Powder over the entire surface of the tag. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Distress the edges of the tag. Ink the edges of the tag using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Die cut the Peace on Earth die out of white cardstock. Cut the Peace on Earth die cut in half. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Walnut Stain Distress Ink over the entire surface of the loopy area of the die cut.

Die cut the Flourished Oval Frame out of white cardstock. Using a blending tool with foam, blend Walnut Stain Distress Ink over the entire surface of the frame.

Die cut a 2 1/2" Stitched Oval out of a piece of cream cardstock. Apply Emboss It Ink to the With Every Leaf quote from the Leaves stamp set and stamp in the middle of the oval. Sprinkle Copper Scroll Modern Gilding Powder over the stamped quote. Tap off the excess powder and emboss wit a heat tool. Distress the edges of the oval. Ink the edges of the oval using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Apply Emboss It Ink to whichever leaves you'd like from the Leaves Stamp Set and stamp onto a piece of watercolour cardstock. You'll need a total of seven leaves. Reapply Ink to the leaf stamps as needed. Sprinkle either Kells Gold or Copper Scroll Modern Gilding Powder over the stamped leaves. Tap off the excess powder and emboss with a heat tool. Using your favourite colouring medium, colour in the leaves. Fussy cut all seven leaves out. Ink the edges of all the leaves using Walnut Stain Distress Ink and a blending tool with foam.

Adhere the Peace on Earth loopy piece to the top right hand side of the stitched oval. Adhere the flourished oval overtop of the stitched oval.

Foam square the flourished oval frame to the middle of the tag.

Use adhesive and foam squares to adhere the seven leaves as desired around the quote.

To finish the tag, tie a piece of twine at the top of the tag to create a bow.

Here are a few closeup shots of the finished tag.

With Every Leave a Miracle...Card using Leaves Stamp Set and Gilding Powder

The signs are everywhere, especially in Alberta where the days are shorter, cooler and the leaves are already starting to change, fall is just around the corner. There is not much I do not LOVE about fall, it’s no coincidence I was drawn to Quietfire Design’s Leaves stamp set, now available through Emerald Creek Craft Supplies.

My friend Kerry and I will be hosting a Botanical Gel Plate Printing demo for the Great Canadian VIRTUAL Scrapbook Carnival. I used one of the prints I created while prepping for the demo. I scanned this print to my computer so I can use it over and over. I really loved how it turned out and the colours are so yummy!

I brushed a bit of Perfect Project on my paper, it helps embossing powder to stick ONLY where I have ink. Using the maple leaf stamp and Ranger’s Emboss It ink, I randomly stamped my base paper. I embossed the leaves with my Copper Scroll Gilding Powder ~ this always makes me happy!

I wrapped and tied a lovely piece of ribbon to my card. This ribbon is hand dyed in small batches by my bestie Kerry Engel [ www.engelbelle.com ].

A piece of copper twine adds some extra texture and plays so well with the
Copper Scroll Gilding Powder.

I stamped my
sentiment from the same collection onto a piece of Duralar and layered it over a piece of vellum cut to the same size. It is attached with the copper twine.

I hope this simple card inspires you to pull out some fall themed stamps or maybe add some new ones to your stash!

CHEERS to sweater weather!
