Conservative Nonsense Over Coke Ad

Allen West had a shit fit over the Coca-Cola ad that ran during the Super Bowl.

... If we cannot be proud enough as a country to sing “American the Beautiful” in English in a commercial during the Super Bowl, by a company as American as they come — doggone we are on the road to perdition.

There are many problems facing America. Conservative activist choice to focus on a Super Bowl ad and Duck Dynasty. These people would probably draw a blank if you asked them their position on water management. Stephen Colbert mocked the conservative uproar over the Coke ad.

Update Some low information users of Twitter are under the impression that America the Beautiful is the national anthem. It's not.

Mitt the Ripper Ad

Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart have had great fun pointing out the legal loopholes set up for Super PACs. Colbert's Super PAC released an attack parody that compared Mitt Romney to a serial killer. The attacks in ads are often over the top. Colbert and Stewart. What is funny about this ad is it would not be surprising if a Republican opponent of Romney's did compare him to Jack the Ripper. I'm surprised that Newt Gingrich hasn't thought of it first.

Florida Democratic Party Letter to the Editor Campaign

The Florida Democratic Party is running a counter letter writing program to Gov. Rick Scott's initiative. FDP Chairman Rod Smith is asking voters to voice their disapproval to their local newspapers. Newspapers usually are wise to these spamming attempts. It is rather humorous that Scott's letter to the editor PR campaign is being lampooned.

Stephen Colbert made fun of Scott's letter to the editor campaign last night.

I really don't buy that Glenn Beck is as crazy as he appears. The male Ann Coulter act is helping get Beck ratings. Many people would go on television and behave like fools. That is why reality televsion and the Jerry Springer Show exist.

Stephen Colbert gives Beck the treatment he deserves. The problem with parodying Beck is that the latter is a parody of conservative talk show hosts. Beck is to the news what Hulk Hogan is to athletics. Both go onstage and play characters. I don't doubt both Beck and Hogan are strange in real life. However, Beck would have been arrested years ago if he really believed in armed revolution. Hogan doesn't body slam every person he sees. The stage persona is theatre and bad theatre at that.

Glenn Beck's Crazy Train

Glenn Beck believes the Obama administration will censor the speech of Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and himself. Even O'Reilly has a hard time buying Beck's rant. You know there is a problem when O'Reilly is the voice of reason.

BECK: Alright! Let's just lay out all the cards on the table!

O'REILLY: Go ahead.

BECK: I'm full-fledged crazy nuts! You know it and I know it. So here it is.

(Beck turns to camera.)

BECK: This is what's coming America. Depression and revolution. That's what's coming.

O'REILLY: Alright...

BECK: They're gonna eat the rich.

(Beck points at O'Reilly.)

BECK: And they're starting with you.

O'REILLY: Why am I putting this man on the air?

(BECK gives a bizarre laugh.)

O'REILLY: So, are you selling muskets now?

BECK: Yes.

To paraphrase Ozzy Osborne: Beck went off the rails of the crazy train. This shouldn't be surprising.

"I think Jesus Christ and Hitler had a lot in common," Beck once said. "And that was they could both look you in the eye and say, "I`ve got an answer for you, follow me." One was evil; one was good." Only someone as unhinged as Beck would make such an analogy.

Stephen Colbert has noticed Beck's bizarre ramblings.

Colbert Campaign Finished

Stephen Colbert's joke South Carolina campaign is stalling before it started. Colbert does not have enough money to pay the $35 thousand fee to get on the Republican ballot. The South Carolina Democratic party rejected application 13-3. They rightfully concluded that Colbert wasn't a serious candidate.

“The general sense of the council was that he wasn’t a serious candidate and that was why he wasn’t selected to be on the ballot,” said Joe Werner, the party’s director. “There was discussion — I wouldn’t call it a heated debate — but there was discussion about it.”

There is no need for a heated debate. Colbert's campaign is a lark.

I find Colbert funny when he is pretending to be a conservative pundit on Comedy Central. Colbert's candiadcy has real world consequences. The winner of the Republican and Democratic South Carolina primaries may go on to win the White House. Colbert could throw a Nader-like monkey wrench into the primay and help a candidate win.

If Colbert really wants to run then start an official campaign in 50 states. I don't think someone should run for public office just to hawk a book. There is a time for humor. The most important presidential election of the 21 century deserves better candidates than it has now. Not a guy that previous claim to fame was the very unfunny Strangers With Candy.
