Death Becomes Her for Paperbabe Stamps

Well how lucky am I getting to play with the brand new releases from Paperbabe stamps (click the link to go to the Paperbabe blog for more inspiration)!

As soon as Kim showed me the Day of the Dead inspired face stamps I HAD to say yes to creating a piece for her. I am no artist so rather than try to create realistic hair and skin I decided to go a bit Gothic and make a piece of Halloween art. I've been very much inspired by Kim's work with her substrates and stamps for this piece so I can't really take much credit - but it does show how easy it is to learn from her and create your own artworks even if you can't draw for toffee!

I combined the Mini Female Face set and the new Sugar Skull set to construct the face. I stuck to a white, black and red palette, using shades of grey for the eyes.

Because I love a bit of the macabre I used the blood drips around her neck and painted a 'slash' line with red and grey paints above.

The layered flowers are painted in two tones of red and finished with gems.

I painted the large MDF panel silver then used the new Roses stencil with silver embossing paste (Dreamweaver) over the top. I aged the silver with black Archival Ink applied with a sponge. Scraps of grey netting add to the aged effect.

Her hair is simply painted black then stencilled with cobwebs in silver embossing paste.

Hope you like my spooky portrait. I had a ton of fun making it! Pop over to the Paperbabe blog for more inspiration with the new releases.

All Paperbabe goodies can be purchased here - the new releases are available from tomorrow, 24th September.

See you soon!

Katy - YOU ARE HERE

I hope you enjoy our fun hop!

For my piece I cut a niche in an old book before gluing the pages together (you can glue them all in one go by applying a generous coat of gel medium to the edges and clamping them together). The book has a wash of cream paint to knock back the text and some green stencilled detail.

I used the laser cut substrates to make my little critters - I loved using these and the end result is fab, with so much more dimension than cut out stamped images. I undercoated them with chalk paint and used a variety of Archival inkpads to build up the stamping. I added details with coloured pencil, a white gel pen and a black fineline pen.

My tree die cut is sprayed with Distress Spray Stains and has little leaves and flowers added. I stamped the quote and freehand cut it into a speech bubble to add to the whimsical effect.

Finally I added some detail to the facing page with stamped fox and painted MDF word, also from Paperbabe.

LOVE these new products and I hope you do too. Good luck in the giveaway and enjoy the rest of today's hop.

Paperbabe Stamps Summer Blog Hop!

HELLO EVERYONE!

WELCOME ALL to the Paperbabe Stamps Summer Blog Hop featuring new stamps... Kim thought it would be a lovely treat to see Paperbabe stamps in the hands of some of her talented stampy friends...

Just to recap the new release, "Folk Fabrique", "Doll Face", "Mayleedee Little Red", "Mayleedee Frost Fairy" and "Dillon Frost Sprite" are NOW in Etsy! and the WebShop

Be sure to stop by PAPERBABE blog if you are JUST beginning the hop and make it all the way to the PAPERBABE STAMPS blog to see the endless possibilities with these new stamps and to leave your comments along the way... as there are some fabby prizes to be had!

Prizes indeed! To celebrate there will be the ENTIRE AUGUST release and a very special not yet released (get it well before it's release in September) rubber stamp...  up for grabs to a very lucky winner!!!

I am very grateful to Kim for asking me to be involved in her hop - her stamps are fab and I know how much love she puts into each and every design. I chose to work with Folk Fabrique which is such an amazing set to use. I am not much into colouring in so this set appealed to me straight away. The layered stamps are perfect for the Copic challenged!

We recently moved house and decorated our bedroom in blue and white china colours so I've been looking at a LOT of wallpapers. These stamps reminded me of wallpaper and they have a slightly Eastern look to them - so I decided to create a jewellery box for my dressing table for today's hop, reminiscent of old blue and white pottery.

Here's how:
1) Paint a papier mache box (these are very cheap from Hobbycraft) with white paint and stamp around the bottom part with one of the blossom stamps - I used VersaMagic Aegean Blue ink.
2) Die cut an oval of pearl card for the lid and stamp it with part of the background stamp in the same VersaMagic Ink, filling the gaps with stamping in the same colour. Stamp the peacock outline in Archival Cobolt Ink.
3) Stamp the components of the peacock onto white card and with the Cobolt ink and cut out. Layer onto the outline peacock.
4) Finish with ribbon and a Tim Holtz word sticker.

The box would also make a gorgeous gift box so I also created a matching card to go with it. I stamped onto pearl card again with VersaMagic Aegean Blue for the background and Cobolt Archival for the details. To finish I simply matted the image, layered up the peacock bodies to give a bit of dimension and finished it with ribbon bows and few gemstones.

That's it from me but there's plenty more to see on the hop! The lovely and super talented Joanne (AKA Angelnorth) is your next stop.

So go, hop and be amazed... Here's where you want to be:
