Rokjes, rokjes, rokjes Skirts and more skirts

Onze kleindochter is momenteel gek van rokjes. Ze zou nooit wat anders meer aandoen als je haar liet doen. Met het begin van het nieuwe schooljaar kwam dan ook de vraag om nog snel voor een paar nieuwe rokjes te zorgen.

Our little granddaughter of 3,5 will only ware skirts for the moment so with a new school year in sight the question came to make a few skirts.

Dit stofje met de antieke poezenprint lag al een tijdje te wachten om tot een rokje omgetoverd te worden.Het lapje heeft nl een zekere hoogtje en er is geen ruimte om wat af te knippen zonder de print kapot te snijden dus moest het blijven liggen tot onze kleine meid groot genoeg was.

Anne-Fleur had de stofjes voor de rokjes zelf uitgekozen en ik verbaasde me een beetje dat ze dit donkere stofje met een vogeltjes motief zelf uitkoos want alle andere stofjes waren helder van kleur en eigenlijk te licht van kleur voor de herfst.

 

Anne-Fleur choose the fabrics for her skirts herself. I was surprised that she choose this darker bird print because a lot of the other fabrics she choose where on the bright side for autumn. 

 Nog een stofje dat al lang klaar lag voor een rokje. Het is wat zwaarder van kwaliteit dus minder geschikt voor een fronsrokje.Het is van het merk Eau de Mer wat overal op de stof geprint staat.Ik maakte  daarom een rokje met vier stolpplooien  en in de achterkant stak ik elastiek.

This fabric  from Eau de Mer is a bit heavier and I used it differently. I made this skirt with four pleats in the front and and an elasticated back.

Een stofje dat ik echt heel erg mooi vind maar Anne-Fleur moest en niets van weten.Ik maakte hiermee het allereenvoudigste rokje,elastiek vanboven,zoompje vanonder want je weet maar nooit ...En inderdaad, toen ik de rokjes ging brengen smeet ze het rokje terug op m'n schoot en zei, ik zei toch dat ik dat niet mooi vind!!! Gelukkig vindt haar mama het wel heel mooi dus ik zie er haar toch mee naar school gaan.

This is a top easy skirt since Anne-Fleur did not like this fabric and did'nt want me to make a skirt of it. So I made the easiest skirt in the world with an  elasticated waist and a seam at the bottem.Five minutes work. She did not want it and said, I told you I did not like this!!!

Zonder woorden... Maar geloof me, het was een groot succes!

 No words needed, but I can tell you the kitchen is a big hit!

Speelkeukentje Play kitchen

Van een opening tussen onze keuken en de gang maakten we een speelkeukentje voor de kleindochter.Het hele hoekje is slecht 88 x 76 cm groot.

Eerst verfde ik de muur wit en werd er een houten frame geplaatst door m'n zoon.

From an  opening between our kitchen and our hall we made a little play kitchen for our granddaughter.It is only33 x 30 inch. First I painted the wall white to have as much light as possible and then we placed a wood frame.

 Aan dat frame bevestigden we MDF platen van 18 mm. Vanboven werd de buiten en de binnenkant afgewerkt. Vanonder werd alleen aan de kant van de gang MDF geplaatst.We lieten een opening tussen de onderkant en de bovenkant omdat ze er dan later ook winkeltje in kan spelen.

On the frame we fixed wooden panels. At the hall side we did both side and on the kitchen side we also fixed a second panel on the top. We left an opening between top and bottem because in a later stage she can also use it as a shop.

 Twee planken werden op dragers gelegd en we probeerden al eens of we alles wat we wilden zetten een plaatsje vond. De bovenste plant is dieper dan de plank eronder. Daardoor kon ik een gordijntje monteren onder de plank. Een honden eetbak werd de pompbak en een klein defect kraantje maakte de natte kant af. Voor het kookplaatje heb ik lang getwijfeld wat te doen maar toen ik op Marktplaats dit losstaande gasfornuisje uit Hema zag  wist ik dat dat het was wat ik wilde. Wanneer we dan een winkel willen kunnen we dat gewoon ergens anders zetten.
 On the kitchen side we mounted two shelfs.The top one is wider then the bottem one to allow us to have a curtain in front. A dog bowl is the sink and my son provided a broken tap to complete the wet side. On the other side I found a second hand gas stove that was perfect in size.

Je ziet wat een ravage het is geweest deze week.En natuurlijk had oma sint veel te veel gekocht om plaats te vinden in de keuken!

You can see what a mess I made this week and of course grandma had bought to much to place it all in the kitchen.

Vanboven was het nogal een kaal groot stuk hout dus schilderde ik er wolkjes op, hing een vogelhuisje op en een klok en op het internet vond ik figuurtjes in hout. Deze figuurtjes waren zondag besteld  in de UK en dinsdag al hier. Gistermiddag verfde ik de figuurtjes en  daarna plakte  ik ze vast met houtlijm en dit leuke venster tafereeltje is het resultaat. Het enige wat rechts nog ontbreekt is een grote houten kat die men vergeten was mee op te sturen. Jammer want nu zal ik ze tegen zaterdag niet hebben.Een goede lamp van Ikea zal er voor zorgen dat het keukentje altijd klaar en helder is.
The top part was rather a large bland piece of wood so I painted some clouds on it, fixed a birdhouse and painted and glued some lazer cut wood birds and leafs to it. With this lovely window view as a result.A good lamp from Ikea gives her good light all day long.

Het laatste werk vandaag was dan alles af te wassen en de gordijntjes te maken. Het thema van het keukentje komt van een set kinder poetsgerief dat Casa deze zomer verkocht. De hele set was gedecoreerd met witte bloemetjes en rode lieveheersbeestjes.Dat thema heb ik verder getrokken in de gordijntjes en in de kleur van de handdoeken en zo.

My last work today was making the curtains. The theme of the kitchen is lady bird or lady bugs. I bought a childrens cleaning set, broom, mop, bucket and so on with white flowers and red lady bugs on it and I used these colors also in the curtains and in the towels and dish cloth' s.

Wanneer Anne-Fleurtje er nu niet is kunnen we het keukentje afsluiten met het gordijn en daarachter ook nog haar poppewagen en haar schommelstoel proppen. Zo staat de living dan ook weer wat minder vol.
En nu maar hopen dat Oma Sint het goed gedaan heeft en de kleine meid er veel plezier aan zal beleven.
When our granddaughter is not with us we can close the big curtain and stash a few other toys in the kitchen too.Now I only hope she loves it and she will have much play out of it.

Dag créche...Bye bye creche...

Vorige week donderdag was het dan zo ver.Onze kleindochter verliet de creche om naar het instapklasje te gaan. Daar hoorden afscheidstractaties bij.

Voor de verzorgsters was er een doos met heerlijke boterkoekjes met Anne-Fleurtjes naam op.

Last Thursday our little granddaughter left creche to go to school. Here in Belgium little kids can go to school from the age of 2,5. Of course there had to be treats. For the nurses there was a tin of homemade shortbread with Anne-Fleur's name on.

Voor de kindjes bakte ik ook boterkoekjes met Anne-Fleurtjes naam op en die bonden we in een zakdoekje dat we aan een stokje hingen. Daaraan een kaartje met haar foto en een afscheidswoordje

For the kiddies in the creche I also baked shortbread with Anne-Fleurs name on and wrapped them in a hankerchief. We attatched a stick to them and a card with some goodbye's on.
It was an emotional goodbye I was told. For me time goes far to quick!

Halloween 2011 rokje / skirt

Onze kleine meid gaat al naar school binnenkort en morgen is haar laatste dag in de creche.
Daarvoor moest dus nog even een leuk Halloween rokje gemaakt worden.
Ik gebruikte een oranje patchworkstofje met zwarte vleermuizen en pompoenen op die gezoomd zijn met glinsterende zilveren lijntjes. Het is een eenvoudig modelletje bestaande uit een rechte lap met een tunnel voor een elastiek. Om het toch een beetje speciaal te maken  maakte ik nog een volant die ik iets hoger op het rokje zette.


                     
My little granddaughter is leaving creche to go to pre-school. Since Thursday  is her last day she needed a little Halloween skirt to go in style.It's made from a patchwork fabric with black bats and pumpkins on that are rimmed in silver.Its a simple rectangular piece of fabric with a tunnel for elastic and I made a ruffle of the same fabric. I put the ruffle about 5 cm from the bottom of the skirt.

Na het poseren wilde ze graag nog even op de schommel die ze van m'n moeder kreeg voor haar eerste verjaardag. Ik vrees dat ze daar de volgende lente ook niet meer in zal passen. Wat wordt ze snel groot!

After the photo shoot she wanted to go in the swing. She loves that little swing she got from my mother for her first birthday.

Na het poseren moest ze samen met mama nog even op de schommel die ze van m'n moeder kreeg voor haar eerste verjaardag. Daar zal ze volgende lente ook niet meer in passen. Wat gaat het toch allemaal snel!

Poezemieke Kitty Girl

Van sinds ze heel klein is is ons kleine popje gek van mijn katten. En ja, er lopen er hier behoorlijk veel rond dus ze kan er niet langs kijken.Voor het ogenblik zijn het er weer 8 want de drie kittens die zijn net de deur uit.
Ze speelt het liefste met het kattenspeelgoed en het katteneten en een van haar eerste woordjes was 'poe'.
From the time she was a very small girl my little granddaughter was crazy about our cats. She plays with the catfood and the cat toys and one of her first words was 'poe' .You must know that 'poes' is flemish for a female cat.

Nu heeft ze sinds vorige week een bordje van Emma Bridgewater gekregen waar ook poesjes op staan en de grote sport is van zo snel mogelijk haar bordje leeg te eten zodat ze het poesje in het midden van het bordje kan zien. Ze heeft altijd grote pret wanneer dat gebeurd!

She now eats from an Emma Bridgewater plate with kitty's on it and she enjoys eating from it a lot.

Sinds deze week zegt ze op een allerschattigste manier 'poesjes' en dat doet ze dan ook wel honderd keer op een dag. Alle poesjes krijgen kusjes, ook de metalen deur openhouders in de vorm van een poes. Ik heb nu eenmaal poezen in alle soorten maten en materialen.

Het kon dus niet langer dat dat arme schaap geen poezenrokje of jurkje had. Dus toen ons poezemieke haar middagdutje deed heeft oma haar kattenstofjes eens uitgehaald en in een half uur een rokje met poesjes gemaakt.
Daar moest toen natuurlijk ook nog een T-Shirtje bij....Een uur en 9 euro later had het kind een volledige nieuwe outfit bestaande uit een rokje, een nieuw T-Shirtje en een nieuw paar broekkousen.

Since this week she can say 'poesjes=kitties' in the most adorable way and it was no longer possible that this little kitty girl had no skirt of dress with kitties on. So during naptime, granny took out her cat fabrics and created a little skirt and T-Shirt. For less then 10$ she had a totally new outfit.

Nog even gedag zeggen aan de poesjes....

Ster van de dag Star of the day

Vorige zondag hadden we de jaarlijkse BBQ van onze familie. Vroeger vierden we in de laatste week van juli altijd de verjaardag van Pa maar sinds Pa overleden is houden we deze traditie aan om zo nog eens samen te komen met alle familie leden.
Sinds dat er twee achterkleindochters zijn zijn deze telkens de ster van de dag. Dit jaar was vooral onze kleindochter, Anne-Fleur de ster van de dag.
Ze zag er ook allersnoezigst uit in haar kabouterjurkje.

Last sunday we had our yearly BBQ of the family. In the last few years the 2 great granddaughters are the stars of the day. This year it was especially our own little granddaughter,

Anne- Fleur ,who looked to cute in her gnome dress.

Sinds kort kan ze "aandoen " zeggen of toch iets wat er op lijkt. Nu moet ze constant haar zonnebril hebben of haar kralen. Dan steekt ze die omhoog en zegt heel schattig "aandoen"!

Zomerpret Summerfun

Our little granddaughter is now 14 months old. When the sun is shining she needs little more then a tub of water and some sand to be a happy little bunny. Is'nt she adorable?

Dit warme weer is alleen maar fijn als je net als mijn kleindochter niets anders te doen hebt als te spelen en te slapen en te eten.Is ze niet geweldig hoe ze hier geniet in haar teiltje water met haar beestjes en potjes en pannetjes??Het plezier kon niet op. Alles moest in het water en werd er dan vakkundig uitgegooid en dan moest het allemaal weer in het water en zo ging een uur voorbij voor ik het wist.
Als de waterpret gedaan is is er nog altijd de zandbak om in te spelen. Veel handigheid heeft ze nog niet met haar schepjes en potjes maar ze steekt het toch niet in haar mond en dat is al veel waard. Vanaf vandaag zal ze elke maandag hier zijn terwijl haar mama en papa gaan werken. Ik verheug me er op want ik heb haar het voorbije jaar veel te weinig gezien.Inmiddels is ze al 14 maanden oud. Wat is het voorbije jaar voorbij gevlogen.

Three or more birdcages...and a babygirls room

Today I showcase the birdcages I have collected in the last few years.

These little vintage birdcages are all the rage in Belgium and Holland for the moment. Everyone thinks they are so decorative. I was charmed by them too so I started my little colletion with the white one on the bottom right. It once was black and is a cage for exhibiting birds in on bird shows. You see them quite often on fleamarkets and so and they are still inexpensive to buy.
The very small one on the bottom was my latest find. I bought it at an brocante fair last year and painted it white to fit the baby room.
The blue one is my favorite. This one I got from a forum friend who also has a small antiques shop. I love this one very much.
First all these little cages where in a corner of my livingroom together with the little nest and the oil painting of the doves. But then I found this light garland with the birds at Ikea and I knew I had to incorporate these with the birdcages to go in the baby's room. I makes a nice feature at night for my granddaughter.

I finally finished my granddaughters room. It took a bit longer then I had planned but I is ready now. It could do with some more finishing touches but it is almost there.
Next to the bird cage wall is the bookcase. I am sad I did not have a vintage bookcase to put here but I had 4 of these Billie bookcases from Ikea in this room before it became Anne-Fleur's room so I had to use at least one of them. For years I have been collecting Pop-Up books and now there is finally a little girl who will for sure enjoy them in the coming years.

Next to the bookcase is a little vintage desk and the chair from my grandmothers kitchen. I still see her sitting on that chair peeling potatoes and so. I also have her kitchen table but that one was to big for this room. I want to paint the little table white I think. This is one of the things I still need to do. If you then turn to your right you then will see the bed my parents bought for me to sleep in when I was a little baby. I painted it a aqua kind of blue and matched it with a quilt that I made myself and some lace Ikea curtains. The old red chair is to be recovered. That is the second thing I still want to do but I am hessitating to do it myself because it is a difficult but beautiful shape. This is one of my better vintage finds. I only paid about 35 dollars for it.To your left under the window, stands this also vintage and very small baby's highchair. I bougth it many years agoo to display the replica porcelain doll's in that I made some 20 years agoo. This one sitting in the chair is the very first and one I made and the only once I made handmade clothes for. The doll sits on one my very first babyquilt. It is more then 20 years old.This delightful metal flowering walllight I bougt from the same lady where I bought the blue birdcage from. It was just perfect for this room.Anne-Fleur's daddy made this drawing when he was 5 or 6 years old. I found it last year when we where clearing our attic out. It fits the room perfectly. Anne-Fleur's room was her daddy's room for almost 25 years !I you turn again, you see the dresser and the shelving unit. The dresser was bought when our daughter was a baby and I will now use it as a changing station. On the shelving unit sit a very special toy. My very special Cotton Rabbit all dressed out in pink with white kitty's on her skirt!

I love her!! Next to the dresser this beautiful hook with a glass flower. I found these last year in a German Ebay store. The thing still missing in this room are my two oilpaintings of my fifties girls. I especially wanted to be in this room but they are nowhere to be found. The lays for years at the same place in my closet and when I wanted to put them up I could not find them anymore.

This is my last birdcage. I think I will move it to the baby's room too. I now resides in the bathroom. This is a very special birdcage for me. My husband and I got it for our silver wedding anniversary. Whe where surprised by this gift until we remover the paper inside the cage. Out came a beautiful bronze statue of two birds on a branch by the famous French animalier sculpter André Vincent Becquerel. I will show it to you next week.

Why I want to get rid of my husband...for a week!

It is hard to keep up with blogs and blogging. I sometimes wonder how people keep it up. Last week was again a foody week. I will write about that on "Foody Friday". For the moment the special event foodmaking has stopped for a while. Now I am trying to start again with my sewing and decorating.
But first I want to get rid of my husband! He is going to Italy for his job next week. He always complains that I complain a lot about him going away for the job, if only he knew.
I want him out of the way to start om my granddaughter's room. I have it all in my head how I want it. The problem is that just two years agoo we renovated this room,my sons old room, in a library/ tv room (DH) an ironing room for me.
But now it all has to go again and I don't know where to put all the furniture and washing and formost all the books.

We put 4 bookcases in that room, we have 11 in total in the house and now I need to get writ of 3 of them.

And what about DH chair and his tv??? Oh dear, I wished I had another room availible to make Anne-Fleur's room.

I have seen the room in my dreams. I will be all in white and pink and pale blue.I am going a bit fifties vintage to match the old bed I have.
Thirty five years I kept my brothers baby bed in my cellar to have it for my grandchildren if there ever came one. The bed needed some paint and I just managed to paint it when the baby was born but I still have no room ready to put it in. This house needs a laundry room thats for sure!

This is the bed my parents bougth for my brother Jan, who is my junior by one year. So I never slept in this bed. It is now 58 years old.

So what are my plans for next week.
Point 1: Tree bookcases need to go.
Two will go in the upstairs hall but I actually need to paint them so they would fit the decor. But I won't manage that when DH is in Italy since they have to come downstairs for that and that I can't do alone.The fourth will disappair in my cellar unless my daughter changes her mind about having it.
Point 2: The dresser of the upstairs hall needs to go in the baby room to make place for the bookcases and I can use it as a diaper changing station.

Point 3: The 2 ugly pine chest of drawers that are in the baby's room have to move again to the cats room where they first where taken from so I can put the bed on that place.

Point 4: I need to iron a lot of stuff from the baptism , tablecloths mainely and put all the other clean washing in my newly arranged cellar. I hope I can bear it to do my ironing there.
Point 5: Once all the moving is done I can strip the wallpaper (only two years old) to put a pretty PIP wallpaper up. Luckely it is only two small wall and I like wallpapering.

Point 6: I need to repaint one bookcase, a mirror,a small table and a shelving unit.

Point 7:Then the fun bit kicks in. I can dress the room.The room was freshly painted two years agoo so I don't need to redo the painting. All the stuff I want to put in the baby's room are old thing I have for years.There will be nothing new in it exept the changing pad.

This shell I also want to put in Anne-Fleur's baby room.I belonged to my paternal grandmother and I had it in my little girl's room and now I want to put in in my granddaughters room too.

You see why I want to get rid of my husband?? He can't stand manual labour and he can't stand me messing with paint and things.
And I need him to be away so I don't have to cook his dinner or iron his shirts for a whole week and can get on with work exept the time I need to spend on the cats.
