blue moon baby book by lauren bergold

one of the very first pixie dust paperie projects i ever made was a baby-themed mini-book using last october's FALL IN LOVE kit. when i started today's project using theBLUE MOON kit, i envisaged it being similar... something which didn't happen at all, lol! :) for one thing, this book has quite a different shape, in order to make use of a chocolate-brown die-cut mini album i had in my stash. (btw, there are also some very cute maya road ones in the pixie shoppe!)

as with the first baby book, i've used almost all the papers in the kit--or at least, everything that was blue or neutral, since i know that a baby boy is expected by these particular parents. i've used most of the vintage sheet music and dictionary paper, as well. i've even used bits of packaging from the prima flourish and the GCD chipboard birds!

speaking of the birds, i found a fun way to cover chipboard: just tear strips of tim holtz tissue tape to size, and wrap them around your shape. it could not be EASIER--you don't even need any adhesive since the tape is sticky; but i did seal them with quick coat of matte gel medium. i like the way the pigment based-ink i used on the edges slightly streaked as i painted the gel on!

since the cover's quite small (about 6x6") i didn't need a lot to cover it, but i worked in a few of my favorite things from the kit: patterned paper in blues and tans... a funky chipboard bird... a fanciful scrap of tulle... some fun denim "ribbon"... and the sweet pale yellow fabric thickers alphabet.

this book is going to be a gift, so i kept the design quite simple: just pretty paper, a little inking and outlining, and a few minimal embellishments. i added a 3.5" square to the center of each page to guide the placement of photos. this picture is of a "stunt baby"(my nephew matthew a couple of years ago!) just to illustrate what the completed book might look like. i love high-contrast black and white photos in this type of context, but the parents-to-be can fill it with whatever they choose.

finally, i added one of my favorite baby quotes, printed on a clear inkjet label, and my book was finished.

is this book as cute as the baby for whom it's intended? of course not! but i think it miiiiiight just make that little guy look even more adorable!!! ♥

rock star birthday card by lauren bergold

there is no doubt that the march pixie kit FLORIBUNDA is full of soft pretty papers, elegant embellishments, and flowery goodness. all of which might make one think it'd be difficult to make a full-on guy card. one would be wrong, though. see?

the reverse side of the beautifully intricate pink paislee paper has this awesome star; the glamorous white parisian anthology chipboard letters can be inked into a variety of vibrant colors; and the elegant glitz design rub-ons are more flexible--and more unisex--than you might think at first glance. all i needed to add was a bit of ink & stitching & a dymo label...and BOOM!

guy card??! no problem! rock-on, pixies...ROCK ON! ♥♥♥
