Michelle had a contest over at her blog....
And I WON!
This cool recipe book from her trip to New Orleans.
I made this right away. Red beans and rice is a family fav. It came out great. My camera was acting up and I don't have photos, but it was yummy.
The book is signed by the author himself.
Michelle sent it all the way across the ocean to little ol' me. I'm very lucky.
Now, please go visit Michelle while I work on the Gumbo.

Contest Winners and Chameleon Weirdness
Random number generator selected numbers 7 and 2, in that order, as the winners of the last post's contest..
Congratulations to Mama Badger and Kristan. I'll be emailing you for your addresses.
Meanwhile, weird little story.
In our entry hall, we have some fake bamboo (in our yard we have a huge garden of the real stuff).
Yesterday, Hubs says all frantically, "Holy shit, there's a chameleon in the bamboo."
And there was. Don't look for it in that shot up above, didn't get the shot.
Lying along a stalk like he thought it was the real stuff.
We had no idea how it got there.
We were late to an event with a time frame, so we left it there. I wanted to come back and get a photo of it.
When we returned home, I had forgotten about the little guy.
In this shot, notice BC's water and food bowls and how they sit next to the bamboo....
So.
We get home and Hubs is all in another upset.
Did I mention he can't handle lizards? Geckos. Chameleons. I am in charge of catching them and taking them outside. He thinks nothing of the giant cockroaches over here and will smash one silly. Which totally grosses me out.
In our marriage he is the cockroach killer and I am the lizard catcher.
But I digress.
Hubs is freaking out because the chameleon had somehow landed in BC's water bowl.
OK. Just picture a lizard lying across this.
I was really bummed and felt a bit responsible for the horrible drowning. Hubs could not bring himself to lift the water bowl with the dead chameleon floating on top.
When I did, the little fucker started swimming and clawing up the sides.
I have to say it was a bit startling.
However, I carried the bowl outside and poured the water slowly onto the real bamboo and the chameleon jumped on out and found himself a stalk.
I swear he looked right at me and I think I heard a faint thank-you muchly.
Congratulations to Mama Badger and Kristan. I'll be emailing you for your addresses.

Book Contest
As I gimp my way back into a blogging schedule, I am going to stick my neck out and say Traveling Thursdays will return this week.
I am a bit apprehensive. My week could go south and the next thing I know all my best intentions are for naught.
So, to commit, I decided to do a little give away.
Someone passed two books on to me lately. They are brand new.
Sam Choy's seafood cookbook. Sam Choy is a famous chef with several restaurants over here.
This lovely tropical cocktail recipe book.
Would you like one?
Just come back on Thursday with a Travel Post to link up. Traveling Tip Thursday started with the idea "what's the daycation spots near where you live...." But we've had true travel posts, daycation posts, how to feel like you are on vacation when you are at home posts.
Link up your post on Thursday and leave a comment which book you'd like to win. I'll run the contenders through the random number thingy and there you go.
See you Thursday.
PS Yes to the comments asking if you can you link a travel post from earlier in the week, month, year... I mean, if I can go two months without blogging at all, I am clearly not inclined to set rules that would inhibit the fun of virtual travel.

Hello Again....
OK. What the fuck was THAT?
Truly, I had no intention of staying away from the blog and the blog world for this long...
However. What the fuck was that?
I'd ponder it out here in virtual space, but it is mostly unblogg-a-licious...
Maybe someday. See, it's not really my unbloggable. Well, mostly not mine. There is some mine, as in work related stuff that I am not comfortable putting out here.
And maybe that's the thing. Most of my life that is worth writing about is, for now, unbloggable.
That being said, some totally bloggable events have rocked my world. As in blog friends and blog relationships.
This post is for Tera at Olive Hue Designs. She ran a contest, I am guessing around Christmas because it was before I took my unanticipated leave of all things Internet.
And I won.
And I was a horrid. Because I was so away from the Internet that it took me awhile before I realized I won and even longer to get back to her... some time after that to show my appreciation for winning such an amazing prize.
Tera is an amazing artist. I love her stuff and have been coveting something from her Etsy store for a long time. For my prize I was allowed to pick out something.
I love so many of her pieces, but I knew what it would be. The first time she posted it, I felt like she had snuck into our backyard.
And seen our swing....
This is the amazing artwork that Tera sent me. It is called Polka Dots and Moonbeams.
It is so me.
It's on my dresser for now, soon to be hung on the wall above the dresser.
I love it.
Thank-you Tera.
Please visit Tera's blog or Tera's Etsy store.
XOXO

Starting my thank-you list
Over the last few months, I have been neglectful of blog business. My blog roll needs to be updated, awards need to be passed along. The list is long.
I'll start with a big fat THANK-YOU to Vodka Mom. I won a contest over at her place, and received the two above books in the mail along with a T-shirt, "I don't do spooky." The thank-you is long overdue....
Can't wait until summer starts and I can laze around and read the books. Then next year add them to my student lending library.
Thanks again Vodka!!!! You rock.

Contest
I have not done a contest in awhile. In the past I have given away a package of goodies from Hawaii.
This cute little aloha mini picnic basket was given to us recently and I thought I could pass it on.
It will come with some snacks from over here.
What do you need to do to win the basket you might ask...
Easy. In the comment thread leave a comment which post you have read here that was your favorite. Those of you who have been readers for awhile can hopefully pick something. Perhaps you don't have a favorite or even a post you remember. In the side bar over there you can see what posts are my favorite, you can pick one of those.
If you are newer and want to do me a favor, read a couple of the posts in the sidebar and let me know which you like the best.
This week the Spin Cycle is "your favorite post." My mind is cluster fucked from stuff going on with my mom. So, instead of me picking my favorite post, I'd appreciate you all doing it.
Random number generator will pick a winner Thursday afternoon. You have till then.
Good luck and aloha.

Wouldn't You Like to be a Panda Too, be a Panda...
I did a post last week showing off the cool stuff I won from a contest in the comment thread over at Oz Girl's. In my excitement, I posted as soon as I could after the box arrived. But Oz Girl had sent me TWO boxes. How generous is that? The second box arrived the other day and contained beautiful note cards made with Oz Girl's own design. She also included this gorgeous pitcher.
Thank-you again Oz Girl! Now, everyone please go pay her a visit. She just got her blog uplifted with a new layout and design.
Amy over at Keeping up with the Schultz Family has bestowed upon me some bloggee bling. This is a different kind of award as it is honoring commenting. Amy is a sweet and regular commenter on my blog, so I can see why she received the award herself.
The award features a Panda Bear. I love Pandas and am not quite sure how this fine animal came to be associated with comment love, but I love this image...

Thank-you Amy! Great timing on the award as several of the blogs I read have posted on commenting and commenting protocol lately. There's Smart Mouthed Broad, Braja, and IB. All great posts as well as comment threads to get an idea of what other bloggers like/don't like going on in their comment threads.
I would love to pass this on to everyone who reads my posts and leaves a comment. Amy's instructions were to pick five bloggers so I have tried to pick bloggers whose comments I enjoy regularly and to bloggers who I did not pass on the last award that came this way. But any and all commenters who love the Panda, go on and take it back to your place.
Thank-you to all who stop by and read the posts here at PseudoLand. I wish I could say I am able to keep a discussion going in my comment thread, but my timing on the computer is rarely conducive to that. I love reading your comments and appreciate each and every one of them. I especially like those who leave their email in the reply so I can get back to you personally.
If you are a reader and do not always, or even rarely/never comment, I'm OK with that too. I like to write and feel very grateful if people like to read what I write, even if they do not want to comment.

Weekend Stuff
I won a contest over at Oz Girl’s blog. She sent me a box with cool stuff. Look how pretty.
And I learned something. Oz girl made these stamps from her own photography at zazzle! Now there is something else on the internet I want to go fiddle with. You can go to this site and use one of your own photgraphs and make your own postage stamp.

The juice book should really help with my healthy intentions too. If any of you readers haven’t visited, go and check her out. Her full blog title is City Gal Moves to Oz Land. Her blog is down to earth, a lot of fun, and Oz Girl also has a photo blog with beautiful pictures.
On another note…
Jane at Gaston Studio’s has passed on an award to little ol’ me. Jane is one of the best story tellers out there, and my goodness she does she have some stories to tell. From Savannah to Bahrain to Egypt, Jane has led quite an interesting life.
Here’s what Jane had to say about the award:
The Renee Award, I’m told, is one of the most meaningful awards in blogland because it honors someone who is incredibly inspirational in his or her intelligent and witty writing. This award further celebrates a person’s smart, strong and inspirational spirit and it honors those who spread joy and love like an acorn, a small package growing into a tall and sturdy oak tree which spawns more acorns.
I’d like to pass this award on to these blogs whose stories I come back for time and time again.
All these bloggers are wonderful storytellers and inspirational as well. Grab yourself a weekend beverage and check them out. I think Mo Mad Dog is on vacation. He forgot to tell me where he was going. Despite this slight, I'm passing it to him, but he better pop up soon. I'm just saying.
Me? I need to go back to organizing the office and filing six months worth of crap. Apparently, it is a three day summer project. The computer being in the same room as a big chore can be a little distracting.

Friday Foto: And The Winner is...
Lucky#17: True Random Number Generator Min:1 Max:82 Result: 17 Powered by RANDOM.ORG
Comment number 17 happens to be Smart Mouth from Words of Wisdom from a Smart Mouthed Broad. Her blog says she's gone fishing for the weekend. Hmpf.
Well, I set off shopping for exotic prizes for her package on a sunny Saturday mid-morning. Only for the love of blogging or out of town guest do I brave the swap meet.

Baskets made into purses? Maybe...
Da slippah no wear sign?
Da slippah no wear sign?
Or who wouldn't want a lovely bongo drum?
Local snacks....
I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable buying anyone a Brazilian bikini....
There were a lot of choices out there at the swap meet.
Next, I hit the local market with a huge Asian selection. I know SMB likes to cook and thought a few odd ingredients might be fun for summer cooking.
You can click on any of the pictures to enlarge them, but the grocery items are fun to take a gander.
Filipino?
Hot sauces?
Well, I can't post what I ended up buying for the Hawaii goodie box cause I want SMB to be surprised.

Thanks everyone who played and celebrated my 200th post along with me.

Happy 200: A Mixorama
Da da da da da daaa! Pseudo has made it to 200 posts! Plus I consider June kind of the one year anniversary of the blog. Blogger will tell you differently, but since I barely wrote, like, four posts in the first six months, I don’t count those months. June was also the month where I started leaving comments on other blogs, beginning the process of creating a network of friends.
A lot can happen in a year and 200 posts.
I think one of the things I like best about blogging is that there really are no rules. Sure, there are guidelines, suggested ways of doing things. But in the end each of us gets to make what we want of our blogs and the experience of blogging. I love that.
I started the blog hoping it would lead me back to writing and feeling creative and it has. The no rules thing really helps and I find the blog so much more satisfying than my last experiment with writing. I also had hoped I would find a way to bring in extra income. Everyone knows that teachers do not make a lot of money, and the way things are going, after years of hard work and going into debt for a graduate degree, the State wants to cut my salary next year. So far I have not put ads on my blog, but this summer I am going to look into doing just that. I am planning to take it slow and not compromise the creative integrity I strive for.
I am hoping the blog has inspired me enough to pump out the first draft of a book this summer…
The biggest change in my life that has come to me through blogging is the people I have met. The closeness I feel with my online friends. I think we all expose a part of ourselves in our writing that lends itself to an immediacy of kinship. These friendships are a bonus I did not see coming when I began this experiment called blogging.
In honor of this bonus, my blog friends, my 200th post will host a contest as well as a peek at Pseudo. I remain anonymous mostly because I put the word teacher in my “experimental” blog title. This blog was supposed to be a test, an experiment. If I ended up enjoying it, I had planned another blog to be permanent. However, when that moment rolled around it was already past summer, I was already back to work, and there was never time to start another blog. So. I kind of got stuck with my lame blog title. Pseudonymous HS Teacher. I don’t want school or State authorities to get all up in my arse, so I remain anonymous.
I do like seeing photos of my blog friends though.
Thistle did a big reveal for her 200th. She was one of the first blog friends I met. She’s not been blogging lately due to a back injury and it is amazing how much I can miss her presence on the Internet.
Anywhos she gave me this idea.
Well.
Here goes.
My daughter took this on Mother’s Day.
There I am..Since I am fairly pissed off at some work related things and may end up writing about them, the photos will probably come down after the weekend. If you are reading this late, you are probably wondering WTF because the photos are already gone.
Next, I’d like to give a nod to the first blog friends I met last summer. The bloggers who helped influence me from sporadic blogging to full on commitment.
I already mentioned thistle. If you visit her, wish her well so her back gets better and she can sit long enough to go on the Internet.
Kristan is a talented young writer. I left my very first comment on her blog. Her post was discussing being biracial and some of the issues hit home for me as my children are biracial. She’s working on the revision of her first novel and has a series online called Twenty Something that I love.
I found Movie in the beginning. I was looking for other teachers. She leaves the kindest, most empathetic comments, and for weeks she and Kristan were the only people commenting regularly on my blog. I’d wake up every morning and would be like a kid opening a Christmas present when I’d see I had 2 comments waiting to be read on a post I had written. Movie and I also have a lot of parallels in our lives. I feel like I have known her longer than one year.
Laura at Rebellious Thoughts of a Woman is also an English teacher. She blogs honestly and bravely about the demise of a bad marriage and the beginning of a new life.
Jane at By Jane hosts Midlife Bloggers. She posted a couple of my posts about being a cancer survivor over at Midlife Bloggers and fast forwarded my blogging. Thank-you Jane.
Smart Mouth Broad over at Words of Wisdom from a Smart Mouthed Broad hosts a blog that is like the neighborhood hang-out. I love SMB and feel grateful to call her a friend.
Kate at What Kate Did Next lives in England and is a writer working on her fourth novel. Her blog (which posts writing prompts and thoughts) has been a huge influence on inspiring my creative side. She has recently published through blurb a book which features the best from her first year of blogging. She is donating all proceeds to War Child. How cool is that?
Twenty-Four at Heart writes about everything that I feel I should not with the word “teacher” in my blog title. Boobs, nekkedness, sex toys… She is funny and endearing and lives close to where I grew up. She posts photos that make me incredibly homesick, but I adore her anyway.
Jan at Jan’s Sushi Bar is amazingly funny and witty. She befriended me from my first comment. And I love her recipes. I wish I was going to Blog Her in Chicago so I could hang out with Jan and 24. I cannot even imagine how much fun that would be. Well, I CAN actually imagine it and so am jealous. They are going to have a blast.
Braja at Lost and Found in India found my blog with a bang of an insightful comment. She is another blogger who has gained enormous readership over a short period of time; however, she always has the time to connect through her comments and emails.
There are many others I wish I could mention in this 200th post, but I’ll end there.
And now for the contest. I’m going to go with my last contest. Kathy, who won, seemed to like the contents of her Hawaii goodie box. The prize is a box of “stuff” from Hawaii. Swap meet stuff. Exotic snackie stuff. A shell or two from Pseudo’s beach walks.
To win the random drawing.
If you are a follower leave a separate comment for another entry.
If you voted for me in the Blogger’s Choice Awards, leave another comment. It may be silly, but I am hoping this Blogger’s Choice potential award might help me land an agent this year for the book I plan to write this summer. In the sidebar you can find my favorite posts, which would mean my better writing. I think.
Leave your comments separately, as the comment numbers will be the contest drawing numbers. The contest will run all week and I'll do the random number thingy next Saturday.
Good luck and thank-you for sticking with my incredibly long 200th post.

My sister Shaunna at Shaunna' Soliloquies pushed me to start a blog for two years before I finally got to it. She is an incredible writer and we hope to work on a memoir project together this summer. Stay tuned for more tales from the eclectic Surf and Sand Mobile Home Park.

Liz at Inventing My Life blogs is in the middle of the adoption process. When her child comes home I feel like I will have been on the front lines from the beginning because of her honest writing.
Smart Mouth Broad over at Words of Wisdom from a Smart Mouthed Broad hosts a blog that is like the neighborhood hang-out. I love SMB and feel grateful to call her a friend.

Vodka Mom, well, everyone knows her. Despite her wild popularity, she has always made me feel like I know her personally. Her funny posts about her kindergarteners inspired me to write some posts about my classroom.

I think.
If you post about the contest, leave another comment.
Leave your comments separately, as the comment numbers will be the contest drawing numbers. The contest will run all week and I'll do the random number thingy next Saturday.
Good luck and thank-you for sticking with my incredibly long 200th post.

Ain't Too Proud To Beg
This little ol' fish in the big pond is asking a favor. My blog is nominated for "The Blogitzer" bloggee award. If you like what you read here, please go vote. It is listed as the "phhhst" URL, instead of the full, equally uncool Pseudonymous High School Teacher.
Last year when I began the blog as a creative outlet I had no idea of the wild ride I had embarked on.
Once you register, you can vote for as many blogs in each category as you like. A lot of our friends are up.

Hawaii Goodie Box Contest
Well, I haven’t done much to thank those of you who come to read this blog. Who comment. Who follow. I’ve been meaning to.
It’s a difficult week to come up with new stuff. Between the flu and then a migraine, I’m having some writing blockage (difficulty getting up from naps). So I thought I’d go ahead and run a contest this week.
The bounty? A box of “stuff” from Hawaii. It will include essentials like chocolate covered macadamia nuts and lilikoi jam. Plus surprise stuff. Ten prizes in all.
Leave a comment for an entry.
If you are a follower you will get another entry.
If you link the contest you will get an entry. Come back and let me know.
If you read the favorite posts (or read them in the past) and leave a comment which post you liked the best you get another entry.
Summer is coming faster than we realize. Your comments and feedback will help me focus my writing projects for the summer.
The contest will run from today through Sunday. Winner announced a week from today!

Five Question Game
Laura at Under the Sheets is having a five question game. So I am playing along today.
Laura’s five questions:
1) What gets you out of bed in the morning?
That first cup of coffee and the list of things to do that start up in my head. I never set my alarm, as I wake up between 3 and 5 and can’t go back to sleep. It’s my stretching and computer time. Sometime catching up on work time. I don’t need to start getting ready for work until 6.
2) What scares you and how often do you think about it?
The idea of anything happening to my loved ones, especially my children, scares me. When I catch myself, I try to take a moment and say a prayer for their safety.
3) How important is making a home to you? For example do you like a home to meditate in, cook good food or have people over?
I like my home to feel safe and relaxing, a sanctuary of sorts. I do love to cook and occasionally have people over, but that tends to be on breaks. Work keeps me too busy to entertain during the quarters. I cook for my family on weekends. Although I want my kids to feel comfortable having their friends over, the truth is, I like it peaceful and quiet better.
4) Where in the world would you like to travel to next?
Hmm. The word next implies I’ve been able to travel at all. Except for visiting relatives in California, we have only had one family vacation. We went to the East Coast – Boston, NYC, and DC. Then traveled down to Florida to see my sister and her family.
If we are speaking where I am likely to travel next, it would be California or Florida. I haven’t seen my family in almost two years and miss them. And I miss road trips to places like this and this. However, if we are speaking fantasy vacations, I would like to go to Europe – especially Italy, Spain, Greece, England, and Ireland. I’d also like to go to Asia – China, Japan, and Indonesia. Then I’d like a trip to Australia and New Zeeland. Let’s not forget South America and Africa. I’d like to go just about EVERYWHERE.
5) What's your favorite Anti Aging Skin Product?
I use Clarins products. They are very expensive. I’m not sure how favorite of mine they are as despite their high cost, the wrinkles and aging signs keep on coming. My older sister uses Clarins and her skin is gorgeous. She is four years older than me, but her skin is so much better. So when I started noticing the aging of my skin I took up using what she uses. But she lived for 20 years in the Pacific Northwest, while I was body boarding and beaching it over here that whole time.
I am definitely going to check Laura’s links to see what the others who play along use for antiaging….

Friday Foto Plus
I won something! In Irish Gumbo's photo caption contest, I won the "Best New Vocabulary Award – For most interesting new word." In case anyone is thinking, well, English teacher.... the word that got Gumbo's attention was sodomator. Not your run of the mill, straight-laced, prim and proper expectation from the educator. If you want to see the picture that inspired it is here. The comment thread has a lot of fun captions to keep you chuckling over the weekend.
If you haven't visited Irish Gumbo, you should check out his blog. His writing is amazing. Start off with one of my two favorite posts. This one is about the birth of his daughter. This one is about a lost first love.
On a side note, if you read this post where I related the colorful language of high school students on a frigidly cold (62 degrees) day. Yesterday, it was 61 degrees and had quite the wind going. As I walked to the office the comments in the air were similar, but a boy walking with his friends behind me had this gem:
SHIT! It's cold. I'm glad I wore my fucking boxers today.
For more Friday Foto's, head on over to Candid Carrie's.

National Delurking Day
I've been reading over blogland that today is delurking day and I admit to a bit of curiosity if there are more readers of my blog than I know about. I'm also apprenhensive that this post will have absolutely no comments. But, WTF. It's all good.
For a public service announcement, 24 at Heart is having an awesome contest. Sex toys and paninis. Check it out.

Wicked Weekend Birthday Bonanza
Today, November 8th, 2008, I am 51 years old. It’s my birthday. What am I doing today? Hopefully, next to nothing. I have chronic migraine issues and have had since I was 12 years old. I have many triggers, depending on my body’s fluctuating chemistry – but among the triggers are stress, lack of sleep, MSG (big one here), chocolate (bummers), alcohol (double bummers), nitrates, and hormone fluctuations. The biggest trigger is neck problems. Back in the day, when I used to tell the doctors (and I’ve been to dozens over the decades) that most of my migraines are preceded by horrible neck pain, the doctors scoffed at me and told me how all the studies have shown that these two things are unrelated. Fast forward thirty odd years and when they did a bone scan to see if my breast cancer had metastasized, low and behold, turns out I have major arthritis and compacted discs in my neck. My physical therapist, who is amazing, tells me that many of the migraine patients he has have neck triggers. Hmm. Go figure.
So, anywhos, I have been suffering with a neck ache from hell and a migraine that, apparently, is immune to Imitrix since Wednesday. I went to work every day on meds since the students were finishing up a big project and I couldn’t imagine leaving my team colleagues with a sub.
Today the headache is gone, but my neck is sore. So I plan on napping and relaxing and not going out at all. When my daughter gets home from work she is going to make us some lunch and we are going to hang out and do nothing, except maybe pedicures and movie watching.
To mix things up a bit and take an old bag’s idea of a walk on the wild side, I thought I’d try a contest AND, OMG, post a picture of myself. I am Pseudo because I want to write freely and not have to worry about what admin and parents would think. But so far, no one from Hawaii reads this blog. And so far I haven’t written anything that I think is too bombastic and controversial. And OK, it’s not much of a picture because it is not recent, so I’m not being all that out there.
So here goes. This picture was taken 11 years ago when I went to Maui with a group of friends. These friends are all women I met the first year I moved to Hawaii as we all worked together and in this picture we had been friends for 15 years already; as of today they are all still my closest and dearest friends and we have now known each other 26 years. There’s a couple more in our gang who did not make the trip that year. I have to say that I don’t look a lot like I did 11 years ago, so I am playing it somewhat safe. I am 11 years older, 15 pounds heavier, and my hair (growing out from the bald chemo state) is shorter, thicker, and curlier.
Here’s the game. Guess which one is me. All those who guess correctly will be put in a tumble and the winner will get to select a hardback from this selection from my library. The post comes down Sunday 8 PM Hawaii time and I’ll announce the winner.
