Hanging Jewelry Box

I have made this type of jewelry holder for some time now.  Unfortunately, my hands hurt so bad that this will probably be the last one I make.  Screwing in the hooks is just to taxing.  The electric drill is no good for starting the holes as it gets caught on the fabric.  Ahhhh gotta love getting older and having carpal tunnel (LOL)

This one is mine

this one I made for a friend

This one is much bigger.  I hope she likes it.

Monday

A great little find in my town

I had the opportunity to attend a natural hair meetup in my area.  I went to Cupcakes and Curlfriends.  The event was held in the shop Suds Bar Soap & Essentials.  This was the first time I visited the shop.  Entering into the store was like being carried away on an aroma cloud.  The array of smells was just delicious.  While I am no journalist or photographer I just could not pass up the opportunity to blog about this shop and take a picture of the owners, Kim and her mother Aggie.

Typical of many small towns, the buildings in downtown Dover are bi-level.  Unfortunately, it was not a good day for me to attempt to walk down the steps.  Sadly, many of the vendors and hair demonstrations were on the lower level.  In spite of this situation, I was glad to stay because Kim and Aggie were so sweet and welcoming.   They answered all of my questions about the products in their store.  They really have some interesting items.  Most of the products are natural, organic and chemical free.  Ms Aggie was happy to demonstrate the body scrubs and lotions.  She even brought me some sparkling water while the rest of the attendees just had plain water(lol).  I also was given some soap samples that I can't wait to use.

It was a great idea to have the Cupcakes and Curlfriends event in the Suds Bar Soap & Essentials shop.  What a great mix of sisters adorning all types of natural hair styles, ethnic fashions, fabulous jewelry with aromatic soaps, soy candles and body lotions all against a backdrop of live music.   I am sure Aggie and Kim will host other events at the shop in the future.  I wish them much success!

Kim. Looking Fab!

Jewelry making Pass-it-on party

This party was planned for a few teenage girls.  One day while visiting my old church a friend's daughter asked "Miss Teen Teen do you still do your parties?"  I replied, "... yes, in fact I have a crocheting party planned during spring break. "   Now most of these girls live in another town, so they had not been to a pass-it-on party since I had moved almost 4 years ago.  Instead of crocheting they wanted to make jewelry.  So, I put together a jewelry making pass-it-on party.

The sample project:

The girls made these toggle bracelets.  I totally miscalculated the time it would take these girls to catch on to this craft.  I am so used to working with younger children who take longer to learn a new skill.  Also this was a rather small party.  Luckily I had more supplies.  (and who ever said crafters had too much stuff and were borderline hoarders-lol)

They also made these memory wire bracelets...

...and they made these earrings.

Thank God for His grace...it was time for lunch after all that jewelry making. (LOL)

Zentangle inspired earrings

I made these earrings as taught by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer.  I used to watch her on Scrapbook Memories all the time.  Unfortunately, the TV show is no longer broadcast in my area.  I was not sure that I would like having a pair of earrings with two different designs, but I am embracing their 'lovely mismatched uniqueness'.

I neglected to photograph the back, but it is zentangled also.

Hmmmm I NEED a bracelet (LOL)

Monday

An easy fix...

I was admiring my girl friend's new earrings.  I pretended like I was going to take them when she wasn't looking.  She laughed...I was serious (LOL).  Later as we cropped together she took them off and exclaimed they were too heavy.  I took them and made one pair into two separate pairs.  I hope these will be lighter for her.

How Charming

These are the charms I made for a recent charm swap I hosted on Scraps of Color.  I used cowry shells, black wire, fishing hooks, and recycled beads from a bracelet and hair accessory.  The tags are embossed, glimmer sprayed and tied with some shimmery fibers.

Jewelry sets

Bracelet, earrings and lapel pin made with wire wrapped beads.

Jewelry box decorated with items from my stash. Patterned paper that my gf gave me from a wedding paper pack. Glimmer sprayed flower. I have a ton of flowers from crafts I used to do some time ago. I also had this trim among my sewing items. Vellum quotes, chipboard flourish, TH walnut stain distress ink, rhinestones.
