yay! - Come On Get Crafty June sketch

Friday, June 26, 2015

Hi everyone!  The June Sketch for Come On Get Crafty was featured last week on the Blog and this is my take on it.  It is a little more chaotic than I planned but I was trying to use as many manufacturers as possible! ;)

Here is the sketch below...I made it a 12x12 since that is the size I mostly scrap.

I sprayed some mists on a sheet of acetate and smushed it on my white cardstock to add some color to the background...not that I ended up needing it, but I went with it!

I made a cluster using pieces of Crate Paper, BasicGrey, American Crafts, Pink Paislee, Elle's Studio, Bella Blvd. and Freckled Fawn!  How is that for lots of different products??

I love that journaling card from Crate Paper and I thought it looked good with the black and white pic!  And that is it!

Thanks for stopping by and check out the Come On Get Crafty Blog for the other DT members layouts using the June sketch!

Have an awesome weekend!

Summer Shaker Card - Come On Get Crafty & BasicGrey

Friday, June 19, 2015

Hi there my crafty friends!
I am sharing a shaker card I made for the Come On Get Crafty Blog using the newest Basic Grey 'Aurora' & 'Adrift' collections.
I love all the shaker cards that are popular now and the interaction that they provide!  After sorting through all the Basic Grey die cuts and acrylic pieces, I came up with an idea for a boat and ocean themed card.

I used some tinted modeling paste on the card base for the water and then added lots of the fish and shells die cuts.  I placed the acrylic boat on top and added various sequins from my stash.  I watercolored a border using Distress Inks and traditional watercolors and added the acrylic sentiment, 'Welcome Aboard.'

It turned out to be a perfect card for a surprise cruise a friend just went on!
Thanks for stopping by the blog today!
Have an amazing day!

in the SWING of THINGS - Everyday.Life.Documented. Come On Get Crafty June

Tuesday, June 9, 2015

Hi there crafters!
I am shared my Everyday Life layout yesterday on the Come On Get Crafty Blog and first off, have to give credit to my husband for the photos!
These are a couple Instagram pics her took while pushing my son on the swing.

Taking cues from the photos and the greenish tint to them, I out together a collection of products from to create my page.  I used almost all new products except for the small band of teal patterned paper at the bottom that is an older collection from Crate Paper.  I love all the blues and teals in the new Basic Grey collections and combined them with some of the new Elle's Studio Bits in softer colors including the soft yellow to contrast.

I used the Pinkfresh Studio gold rub-ons on top of the speech bubble sticker between the photos.
I used dimensional adhesive under the photo on the right so I could layer the chipboard frame and flair under it.  The font of the Basic Grey Aurora chipboard alphas is one of my all time favorites!!

This used to be a serious everyday activity, but has lessened since our children are growing up.
After my son broke his leg, this was a way for him to do something outside besides watch us!  I think it made a perfect Everyday. Life. Documented. page and may sadly, be the last of its kind!

Thanks for stopping by the Blog today and have an amazing week!

Best Story - Come On Get Crafty May Sketch

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

Hi there!  Still have a couple more layouts to post from May projects.
This is the May Sketch Challenge for Come On Get Crafty.

This is the sketch below and the original Blog post with the other DT members pages is HERE.

Sometimes a sketch is more creatively therapeutic for me, no stress about planning a
page LO and I can just concentrate on the photo and documenting the memory...

I used a light kraft cardstock for the background and then a wide variety of products

Thanks for checking it out!

hello LOVE - Come On Get Crafty | Something Old, Something New

Friday, May 22, 2015

Hello there!
I am excited to share a fun layout I made using wood veneers from older and newer collections.  I used a mix of dark stained Crate Paper wood and Dear Lizzy American Crafts pieces that I washed with a layer of gesso.  I combined those with some new Basic Grey wood veneers that I also painted white.

I was inspired by the woven paper heart my son had made for me and decided to use two papers cut on a diagonal.  I sprinkled the wood veneers in an angle from the top left down to the right bottom corner, layering them over tags I watercolored & stamped.
I adhered some patterned paper under the center 'LOVE' tag to make a diagonal line in the opposite direction, tying the pinks and reds together.
I love the colored wooden beads from Pinkfresh Studio and all the various sizes and colors of the wood veneers.  I have so many and don't use them enough, so it was fun to load a page full of them!
Thanks for stopping by the Blog today!  I hope this inspires you to get your wood veneer pieces out and create something!  Have an amazing day!

Quick Summer Cards - Come On Get Crafty

Friday, April 24, 2015

This week for the Come On Get Crafty Blog, I made a couple of cards using
the Basic Grey Adrift ephemera pack, some twine and brads.

I used the same formula for both cards...a quick wash of a watercolors, one tag,
another die cut shape and one enamel brad.  I tied some colored twine to the tag,
with lots of extra that I bunched up underneath the tag.

Thanks for stopping by for a quick share!

Good Morning Sunshine! - Come On Get Crafty

Thursday, April 9, 2015

Hi there!
Today on the Come On Get Crafty Blog I am sharing my layout using old &
new October Afternoon, with a little other pieces thrown in.

When I saw this new collection from October Afternoon, I immediately thought about this weekend my nieces spent with us.  We had pancakes that I attempted to make into little sunshines.  They didn't quite turn out the way I had hoped, but the level of enthusiasm didn't reflect that.  Best kid response = a real smile.

I had a few old October Afternoon collections that I used paper from.  The colors of all the collections work so well together, despite the age of any of them.  I used the papers for layering and for the banner I cut out at the top of the layout.  The new collection of October Afternoon 'Saturday Mornings' has great Tidbits and Brads that I used for embellishments and the new Elle's Studio alpha stickers for my title.

These photos have been in my stack of December Daily photos...and I WILL finish it...just not this week! ;)
Thanks for stopping by today!  Have an amazing day!

GARDENING ANGELS - Come On Get Crafty March Sketch

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Hi there!  The sun is finally shining here in Alabama after what seems like a month long rain cloud hanging over us!
I know it won't last, but it is so beautiful outside, I thought this would be the
perfect day to share this layout I did for the Come On Ge Crafty Blog March sketch!

The sketch is below and you can find the original blog post with the other DT members pages HERE!

This was such an awesome sketch that translated into 8.5x11, 12x12 & even card layouts.
I used a close up of our cherry tree blooms and paired it with lots of the new Elle's Studio 'Cienna' products.

I love the Elle's Studio wood veneers and all the soft colors are perfect for this photo.
There will be many more projects this Spring with photos of this tree.  We planted it about 7 years ago
in honor of my Dad, who died almost 11 years ago.  That is the reason for the title of the LO.

I used a piece of this gorgeous pink bokeh paper from Webster's Pages as the top border, similar the the sketch.  Instead of squares from the sketch, I used the Elle's Studio die cuts in flowers, tags and the veneers.

I love the gold rub-ons from Pinkfresh Studio and included this phrase at the bottom,
"grow your dreams like flowers..."  A perfect fit!

Thanks for stopping by today and hope the sun is shining today in your part of the world, for at least a little while!

Everyday Life. Documented - Come On Get Crafty

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

Hi everyone and Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I am sharing a little piece of my everyday life on the Come On Get Crafty Blog
and this is what it looks like this at some point just about everyday.

The Come On Get Crafty shop is filling up with lots of the newest products and I am loving all the new BasicGrey 'Aurora' and 'Adrift' collection!  It has great colors and I love the ephemera pack with all the acetate pieces.  I used a combination of several pieces from that collection along with some other new pieces from Pinkfresh Studio including the puffy stickers & gold rub-ons.

The chipboard letters from BasicGrey have the coolest font that reminds me of
Frank Lloyd Wright or Charles Mackintosh.  I used a couple wood veneer pieces,
one from Elle's Studio and one from BasicGrey.

Thanks for stopping by today and make sure you check out the store for all the new goodies!
They are so inspiring and work well together despite manufacturer!
Have an amazing day!

#boys will be boys - Come On Get Crafty

Friday, March 6, 2015

Happy Weekend!!
Today on the Come On Get Crafty Blog, I am sharing a page inspired by the sketch I drew!
This is a new Friday sketch challenge for the DT which I love!

I had these three photos printed out of my son and wanted to come up with a sketch to go with them.
I love scrapping pictures taken in rapid succession like this. Especially for a silly subject such as this one!
The title is a cut file from one of the workshops from Wilna Furstenburg.  I cut it out in two different
sizes and watercolored them to match the background painting I did.

This is the way I sketch ideas in my journal, so this is what I am sharing!  Using the stars,
I was suggesting paint splatters, stars, flowers, hearts, any sort of embellishment really.  I ended
up using both splatters and then added stars too.  I used papers and stickers from Bella Blvd. along
with a couple Silhouette die cut titles that I watercolored, coming up with a palette of blues and aquas.

I thought cutting the chevron paper into smaller strips, like arrows and then reversing them
added to the movement of the "light saber!" :)  I added wood veneer stars from Freckled Fawn
and a wood veneer card from Amy Tangerine under my journaling.

You can see the original Blog Post HERE!  The shop is filling up with lots of new goodies!
Thanks for stopping by today!  Have an amazing weekend!

right now - Come On Get Crafty DT Sketch Challenge

Friday, February 20, 2015

The new February Sketch is up at Come One Get Crafty today!
It is a super cool sketch by new DT Coordinator Danielle Higginbottom-Brown...
very inspiring!  This is my take and the sketch below.

I decided to use the circle as a ring instead of a solid piece, sewing lots of embellishments to it.

I took the large gold butterfly stickers from Pebbles Home+Made collection and punched
a smaller butterfly out of It...giving me 2, and a butterfly outline.  I thought it
looked pretty fun and a great contrast to the black!

I used one of the large cards from Elle's Studio Penelope collection for my daughter to write her current favs!

Check out the other DT members pages on the Blog HERE and
be sure link your own sketch for a chance to win a prize!
Thanks for stopping by today!  Have an amazing weekend and stay warm! :)

CUZ - Come On Get Crafty & #tbt Video

Thursday, February 19, 2015

Today on the Come On Get Crafty Blog I am sharing my LO for this weeks 'Something Old, Something New' post!
I love this idea and am excited that it has been added to the regular lineup on the blog.  It is great to work with some of my old stash and obviously incorporate the new products burning a hole through my craft desk! ;)

Last time I focused on Crate Paper, this weeks I am using all Dear Lizzy products, several different older collections and combining them with new pieces from the Serendipity line.  One of the best things about using collections from the same manufacturer is that most of the colors are all in line with each other.  Crate Paper has a warmer, vanilla base to all the papers and embellishments, while Dear Lizzy's are mostly white based.  I don't know if I would have truly recognized this observation if not for these projects!

Click below for the video or HERE for the my YouTube channel:

I started this project knowing I wanted to use Dear Lizzy, but chose all the colors and patterns being inspired by the photo, something I don't always do.  I chose this chevron stamp and heat embossed it across my background to create a resist.  I used a fast & easy watercolor method with my Distress Inks (see the video!) and started layering from there.

Other than the color and the giant speech bubble card, I didn't really have a plan.  I decided to use this layered flower I die cut using the new Serendipity metal dies and the Serendipity 6x6 pad.

I love all the patterns in the collection, but the smaller scale suits my style better.  I used lots of the enamel embellishments from the Polka Dot Party collection and the Serendipity Tickers for my title.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have an amazing day!

SMILE FAST - Come On Get Crafty & #tbt Video!

Thursday, February 5, 2015

Hi there everyone!  I am so excited about the new topic for a weekly post at Come On Get Crafty!  Old / New
is to combine new products with older stash together in layout, card or other project.  I love that idea, especially since I really need to work through some stash! ;)  I decided to just focus on several collections from Crate Paper, 2 older ones and 2 newer ones.  This is the layout I came up with...

Click below for the process video I made:

I was looking through my stash and really wanted to use the Crate paper square overlays from the older
'Close Knit' collection.  They gave me the idea to use lots of squares in different sizes, whether in patterned
paper, overlays, or the photos themselves.  I chose papers from the 'Close Knit' and 'Flea Market' collection
for my older stash and then paired it with stickers and chipboard from the 'Notes and Things' and 'Kiss Kiss' collections.
I used tinted modeling paste on a doily shaped mask for some texture and color on my
white cardstock base.  I also decided it would be fun to have the patterns in the papers have
circular elements within the square shape to provide some contrast.
I used dimensional adhesive to mount my photos onto some of the patterned paper or overlay squares.
After getting the main grid of photos and papers adhered, I embellished using the new collections
in chipboard and stickers.
Using the same manufacturer, but varying collections is great because the colors are all based in the same hue.
The pinks are all different with the same hue, working well together.  I love using all the latest products and seeing all the new innovative designs on the market!  It is also great, using some of my favorite pieces that have been
hoarded or hadn't found the perfect project to grace!

Thanks for stopping by the blog today and hope you have an amazing day!
