A break from Christmas preparations

Getting away from the Christmas preparations we had a bee-away-from-home-day last Monday in Delft, where we rented a space for the day. Unfortunately not all the girls from our bee could make it, but those that could got a lot of work done.

Like my fellow Feathergirl I took my featherweight (The Duchess) with me, I worked on my Jacob’s Ladder and finished some more blocks. This is what it looks like now. Since these are only 25 blocks and I am planning to make 63 blocks (7 x 9 blocks) I don’t know how I am going to fit it all on my design wall and make pictures of in the future, but we’ll see.

It was really nice to work on The Duchess and do some patchwork again.

Have a good weekend,

Phyllis

Meet Blanche

First of all an update on Phebe, I finished and attached the first of the applique borders (or ‘frames’as Di Ford calls them in her pattern). I don’t know if I will do more of the little flowers on the corners, it looks like I could do some more, but once the next frame is attached to it, this will be a thin frame so I will have a look at it at that time.

Then: some of you may already have noticed her in the pictures in this blogpost.

Sunday week ago (October 7) was my birthday and DH surprised me with this beauty. Actually, I saw her on the internet a while ago. At the time DH suggested I might want her as an early birthday present, he figured with my maiden name (White) I should really have a white Featherweight too, and who I am to contradict such a wise man??
She arrived in a familiar box,
tightly wrapped,
in her pretty case
carefully unpacked
She works like a dream, and we bought her here, same place as The Duchess. Of course she needed a name, something a bit more frivolous than the classy Duchess and so because of that and her colour I decided on Blanche.
I think we’ll have much fun together, The Duchess, Blanche and I!

Featherweight Day

Of course it was a great day. After much buzz on various blogs finally it was Featherweight Day at Atelier Bep in Hall. Organised by Bep and Jeannet a lot of Featherweight lovers arrived at Bep’s for a day of Featherweight fun.
An impression:

When Hubertine and I arrived we were welcomed by a rather wet crowd…

There was a small project Bep had prepared for us

Ladies with Featherweights everywhere, in the kitchen:

in the living room:

Mr De Bruijn told how us how to take care of our Featherweights

Lunch: very tasty homemade lentil soup

Jeannet gave a show & tell of her wonderful quilts

As did some other quilters. Josephine’s colourful quilts:

The best seat in the house!

We were in Featherweight heaven!

I really have to thank a lot of people for this great day:
Thank you Caro for supplying us with your lovely Featherweight X-stitch pattern, thank you Bep and Jeannet for organising this day, it was soooo much fun & thank you Bep & family for your wonderful hospitality!

She's here!

Always having been a handquilter I never owned a good sewing machine, but when I 'crossed paths' with a nice Featherweight machine some time ago I could not pass it by and bought it, I just thought it was beautiful.

Again, always having been a handquilter I never did much with it. I did buy a really nice Pfaff sewing machine sometime thereafter (in a bid to work on some projects a bit quicker and out of sheer curiosity) and after help from among others Jantine and workshops from among others Lucy, I found I really liked working on a sewing machine as well, even patching and quilting a quilt on my Pfaff.

But because I have soooo many projects going on (does that sound familiar?!), there was just never time to do something with my Featherweight.
Until recently that is. I got the machine out and did some sewing on it. I really enjoyed it, the sound, the stitches….

But then of course, having contracted the Featherweight bug, I started looking at websites ….   and I saw a beautiful machine which had something my old gal did not have, a side plate with a beautiful design on it!
Irresistable!

And the rest is history as they say ….  ‘new’ machine quickly bought and ‘old’ machine quickly sold.
And then the waiting began for my new lady to arrive.

Today was the day! She is here!

Unpacking…

After unpacking…

Isn’t she gorgeous… look at that…..!
What shall I call her? She is very attractive, shiny, sleek, slim, classy, elegant, surely disciplined (considering  the very good condition she is in at her age), I know… The Duchess!

In case you are interested, I found The Duchess here:www.singersewinginfo.co.uk
Time to try her out!
Enjoy your day!
