Home Sweet Home

Moving into a new home brings lots of projects.  There is a long list of things we'd like to do, but for now, here is a few things we've accomplished:
I used the tutorial from this post to make Roman shades for the boys bedroom.  I love how they turned out.  Their room still needs to be painted.
I saw this post and fell in love with these diy ikea nightstands.  I'm happy with the result!  We also repainted our bedroom.  The previous color was kind of a sage green (the same color as the boys room now) that morphed into lime sherbet green at night--so awful. This color is Valspar's color match of Classic Gray by Benjamin Moore.

I enlarged a couple of my favorite pictures of the boys and mounted them on foam core.  I'm still deciding if/where to use them...
Nick stained the deck.  Here's the before.  It was in pretty bad shape.
Nick sanding it (in 107 degree heat!)
Staining
Ta-da! It's quite the contrast but we really like how it turned out!
More home improvement projects to come!

Home Sweet Home

Here's our house for the next 20 months. It's a duplex, so the left side is just the opposite.
Through the front door the kitchen is on the right.

There is an open bar into the dining area.
We have a little less cupboard space than our other place (no pantry), so we picked up this beauty at Salvation Army.
The dining area. My plate wall has room to expand!

Our backyard. Just outside sliding doors in the dining room.

Living room. Behind that dark door is a bathroom.

Living room view 2.
Lukie-loo enjoying his bath.

The upstairs is still in progress. I may or may not get around to showing photos of it. It just consists of 3 bdrm, 2 bath, and the washer + dryer.

DIY: Pelmet Box

I was inspired by this post and decided to make pelmet boxes for my kitchen windows. As advertised, they were nice and easy and I am thrilled with the results.
I bought a sheet with a grey stripe and some yellow ball decor to add to the edge.
Mom and Tracie were of much assistance--couldn't have done it without you, thanks!
Jill was there via webcam (can you spot her?)Luke wanted in on the action as well
It only took a couple hours...and wahlah!
My kitchen feels a little more complete.
Thank you Little Green Notebook for the tutorial!

I'm already looking forward to breakfast so I can admire them again.

Also, the entire project was less than $15.

We'll see what Nick thinks when he returns from hunting...

I should be doing homework...

I love the pin boards in this office. Thank you Pottery Barn for distracting me from my research paper.
