Trip to Utah!

We had such a great trip in Utah.  It's hard to believe it already came and went!  This summer is going by too fast!
We went boating a couple of times.  This picture is at Utah Lake.  Luke and Sam had their first ride on a water-weenie.  Sam liked it but preferred riding in the boat.  Luke absolutely loved it!
He even wanted to ride it "all by myself!" I'll have to live vicariously through my kids' enthusiasm for water-sports :)  I'm a wuss when it comes to water!
We met our friends' baby.  Luke is obsessed with babies.  He checked on her multiple times during dinner.
Jacey, Afton, and Luke
Our good friends the Clark's and the Johnson's.  (And Mary's insanely delicious calzones.)
We went camping for 5 days with Nick's siblings and my parents.  We had several rainstorms but still managed to have a great time!  My boys LOVE four-wheeler rides.
Setting up for our annual shooting competition

Luke loved playing with his cousins
My parents got stuck in the mud pretty bad on their way out of camp on Saturday.  It took 3 hours, 6 men, 3 wenches, and a few cheerleaders to get them unstuck!

Throwing rocks in the river with cousins
Luke was in his element the entire trip.  He loved being outside, riding wheelers, playing with cousins, getting dirty and being loud.
This picture pretty much conveys his attitude about the whole trip.  He can hardly wait to go on another camping trip.
Luke helped Grandma Sam make fresh pasta noodles a couple of times.  He took his cranking job very seriously.
We had a couple sno-cones! (Luke is so concerned with getting his fingers cleaned off that he knocks his sno-cone over and loses about half of it).
Helping make tapioca
Little artists in the making

This was at 22 weeks. (It's a boy!)
Playing croquet with Uncle Casey
I went to Park City with my girlfriends for an over-nighter.  It was so fun and I'm sure it will become a tradition!
We shopped, ate lots of food, talked, laughed, hit the Alpine slide + coaster and had a great time catching up.  Linzi, if you read this, you were missed!  We NEED to coordinate our summer trips next year!
My sister-in-law coordinated a adult sibling dinner with Nick's siblings.  His parents are serving their mission in New Zealand and we missed them!  It's always fun to get together with this group (minus the 21 children that add a little chaos)
We took the boys to see Monsters University with their friends Jacey and Afton.
We went to the carnival in Bountiful on the 24th.  The boys loved the rides.

More boating!  This time at Jordanelle.  How did I miss getting a picture of Nick skiing!  He brought his ski 1500 miles just for this!  And of course, even though it's been a few years he looked like a pro.
Sam protesting the cold water.
Luke, Nick and Sam out tubing. Luke never wanted to get off.
Luke tried skiing on this cool tube for kids.  It has built-in skis that allow them to stand up and get a feel for skiing, but the tube prevents them from tipping easily.
Sam helped with the flag.
Here we are on the long drive home.  It's never fun to say goodbye (especially knowing we won't be back until next summer!)  The boys did really well on the drive both ways though.  This little buckle toy that I made (thank you Pinterest) kept Sam very entertained.
Whenever it was naptime, Sam covered himself out and fell right asleep.
Luke working on a new superhero puzzle.
Sam's still smiling and we're only about 30 min from home in this picture!
Our flower beds had exploded while we were away and it was a nice sight to come home to!
We had such a great trip!

Utah and a Funeral

We had a spontaneous trip to Utah in April for Nick's Granddad's funeral.  We feel really grateful that we were able to be there.  While there, we celebrated Sam's 2nd birthday! (random sidenote: both of my boys have celebrated their 2nd birthday in Utah due to a funeral)

The morning of the funeral we had to wake the boys up at 6am to make the drive to Monroe.  They were a little sleepy and both of them got carsick on the way down. Ugh.
This is a picture of Nick's granddad.  He had so many people at the funeral tell him how much he looks like him.  It's true!

We are lucky to have known Granddad.  He was such a sweet, good man.  We will miss him!

February Birthdays + visitors

February is a popular birthday month in our house.  Luke and Nick celebrate their birthdays just one day apart.  This year we were spoiled to have visitors!  Grandpa Bill and Grandma B came out to spend time with us before they leave on their mission on March 25th (serving as welfare specialists in the Pacific Area--living in New Zealand!).
Nick opening presents with his two assistants.
 Texas Roadhouse dinner celebration
I usually make something besides cake for Nick since Luke always wants 'Funfetti' cake and we don't need two cakes! This year we made cream cheese brownies and they were so delicious!
Luke eating french toast on the special plate!
Sam was sad that the presents weren't for him to open.
Luckily, I had a new toy saved for him so I pulled it out and he stayed busy with it while Luke opened presents.
Luke loved his policeman set from Uncle Craig and Aunt Torie.  I'm scared of what a little authority does for this child :)
Grandma and Grandpa Sam sent a huge play tent!  It was a major hit!  It quickly became the new "camping spot" and "jail".
Luke with his birthday loot: tent, remote control race car, baby book of first two years, new shoes, policeman set, etc.
As a birthday gift for Nick, his parents bought and helped install some shelving for us in the garage.  It's so nice to have!  Here they are working on the install.  I need to take an "after" picture.
Grandma spent lots of time reading stories in the tent with the boys.
Luke blowing out his trick candles.  (I failed to check on our stock of candles beforehand...so he only had two.  He didn't seem to mind!)
Group shot (notice Grandpa Bill in handcuffs and Luke still dressed as a policeman).
We finally got enough snow to build a snowman!
Reading books
Sam, my little techo-nerd.  We were at the scout store for awhile getting things Nick needed as a new Scoutmaster.  After a while this seemed like the only option :)
When we lived in Deerfield we ate at fun restaurant called "Kevin's Place" a few times.  We love it so much we had to go back.  We met some of Grandma and Grandpa's friends there and had a great time!
We are sure going to miss these faces for the next 18 months, but we're so excited for their upcoming adventure and grateful for their examples.  Thank you so much for coming to visit!
