Found this triquetra, listed as free to use, on Flickr. The above is not the only version of the triquetra but is most certainly one of the most popular and, as you might imagine, has a long history of religious use. It features on ancient German rune stones as well as being popular among ancient Celtic pagans although not often as a stand alone symbol but rather as featured along with other symbols and text. And, being that it is three pointed, it was also popular with early Christians as representing the Father, Son and The Holy Spirit. Today it is very popular among neopagans as a triple goddess symbol representing the Maiden, Mother and Crone.

Awesome Triskele

This gorgeous tattoo comes from reader Kitsune and was inked by Nathan at Sailor Jim's Electric Tattoo Company out of Logan, Utah. Here's what Kitsune had to say about her tattoo:
In the tattoo itself the Triskele shows that all three principles of Eolas, Fírinne and Dúlra are connected to each other. The Irish Gaelic around the triskel says ” Truth, Nature and Knowledge” which are the three flames that illuminate all darkness, in an Irish saying. The acorn and oak leaves represent growth in knowledge and strength..It reminds me to always step in the direction of these three principles with strength and commitment. My Celtic ancestry guides my heart naturally to these and If i steadily grow with them I cannot fail.To read more about Kitsune's tattoo, visit her very interesting blog.
And thanks to Kitsune for sharing her beautiful tattoo!

Amazing Horned God

This positively gorgeous Cernunnos comes to us from reader Richard who says:
It is a representation of The Horned God, Cernunnos, or Herne. To me it is symbolic with my connection to him as one of my patrons and was done as a devotional act to honor our bond.
Thanks so much to Richard for sharing his stunning tattoo!

Yeah, it's another tattoo of spirals. And it's another tattoo of a triple spiral similar to those at Newgrange. What can I say? I'm a junkie.

Dualing Arm Tattoos

Click image(s) to see the larger version(s).
This image comes from Rebecca and were inked at Phoenix Tattoo Company out of Tempe, Arizona. Here's what Rebecca had to say about her tattoos:
I put some thought into the symbolism of the tattoos when I got them done. I have a sun with the Libra sign and the horned god symbol on my right arm. They are on my right arm because in Wicca and Paganism the right hand side of your altar is for God and male spirituality. I have the Libra sign because my amazing husband is a Libra. I have the opposite on my left arm. I have a moon, Scorpio symbol, and the triple goddess symbol. For similar reasons-goddesses and female spirituality go on the left hand side and I am a Scorpio. I love the balance of my tattoos! I am representing myself, the goddess, my husband, and the god! Thanks to Rebecca for sharing her tattoos!

Turtle and Moons

These tattoos come from the Flickrstream of Jake Sutton and is licensed by Creative Commons.
The tattoo was inked by Fish at Th'Ink Tank Tattoo in Denver, Colorado.
The turtle features heavily in many American Indian creation stories. Usually various sea animals bring mud from beneath the ocean to form the land which the World Turtle carries on its back.

Triple Moons Sunset

Click image(s) to see the larger version(s).
This tattoo was created by Randy Fox at Panama Fox Tattoo in Panama City, Florida.
This lovely and unique tattoo comes from Lea Anne and the importance of this tattoo is inspirational, to say the least. Here's what she had to say:
I got this tat a few weeks after I got out of the hospital. I had been suffering from undiagnosed depression for years, and I'd finally broken completely and tried to commit suicide. Fortunately or no, I survived the suicide attempt, but I was in a coma for about a week. I felt like the Goddess took my life in her mouth, chewed me up, and spit me back out--alive. She obviously did not feel that it was time for me to die, despite my best efforts. I got the tat to remind me to live, not just exist. The sunset in the center is to remind me that there is beauty in the world every day, and I should not just notice it, but take part in it.Thanks to Lea Anne for sharing her gorgeous and meaningful tattoo!

Purple Pagan Fairy

Click image(s) to see the larger version(s).
This gorgeous fairy, inspired by the fantasy art of Amy Brown is from Rate My Ink and was created by Mike at Blue Horseshoe Tattoo of Hampton, Virginia.
I really like this tattoo. The work is well done and incorporates several different symbols and ideas without being cluttered. There's the triple goddess (maiden, mother, crone) moons hanging from her leg. The caduceus, which has taken on a medical meaning today, has a long, rich pagan history. It was first held by Iris, the messenger of Hera, the topmost goddess of the Greek pantheon. Later it was shone in the hand of Hermes, Greek messenger to all of the pantheon, psychopompos and protector of many people including shepherds, merchants as well as thieves. As Hermes was the rough equivalent of the Roman Mercury the caduceus also became astrologically linked with the planet of the same name. (It should be noted that the caduceus is not the same as the rod of Asclepius, another common medicine-related symbol, which has only one snake and no wings.) And the tattoos on her legs are the icing on the double chocolate pagan cake.

Triple Moons

More triple moons from Rate My Ink. Created by Vince Paolucci at Oceanside Ink in California.
The triple moons so prevalent in modern paganism are directly related to the phases of a woman's lifetime. The waxing crescent represents the young maiden growing to maturity. The full moon represents the mature woman full of possibility/child. The waning crescent represents the aging, yet still powerful, crone.
