Happy Birthday Maximillian

At the pumpkin patch

Playing with a REALLY gross grub

Today is Max's 3rd Birthday.  I just can't believe that he has been here for 3 years already.  The time has flown by.  I feel so blessed to have him.  He is such a delightful child.  He is so happy and fun. He's hilarious ( I think he gets it from daddy). He loves to sing and listen to music, he has definate taste in music to.  He'll let me know when he doesn't like something and if he finds something he likes he listens to it until he has every bit of it memorized.  One of his current favorites is Rust Monster, Nate's Pirate Band.  We both have every song memorized. Max even has the order on the C.D.'s memorized.  He'll run around the house humming pirate music into whatever he can find and pretend it is his trombone.  He currently air plays the guitar, drums, trombone and piano.  He'll play on my arm or the couch or whatever he can find.  He thinks every thing that is long and straight is a drum stick.  He is constantly singing songs or humming songs or playing songs on his instruments.  Our home is filled with music all day long.

Max loves to play with cars. He has a box of random cars that he has gotten over the years and we pull it out about every day.  He picks the cars he wants to play with and runs around the house driving his cars and carrying on conversations.  I have always been able to bring cars to church with us and they will keep him quiet for a while.  He'll pull them out, line them up, drive them all over the bench, talk to them, have them talk to each other and he'll be good during sacrament meeting.

He also loves sticks. Those aren't as easy to take with us.  He either wants to use them as drum sticks and bang on things or use them to sword fight.  He also loves to just get a stick and drag it behind him. He calls it "vrooming".  He'll vroom his swords or his pool sticks or random sticks he finds outside.  He just likes to have a stick in his hand.

Max loves to play and laugh and get really wound up.  Some of his favorite things to play right now are the alligator game with daddy.  Nate made it up one night.  We have this blue tube, meant for crawling through, and they pretend it is an alligator that eats them up.  Before it eats them it sings "scary" music, similar to the jaws theme.  We now have an "alligator" living at our house that randomly sings scary music and eats us.  He also loves to get eaten up by myself or Nate.  We play the "I love you so much I'm going to eat you up" game.  Its pretty simple really, you just hold the person your going to eat and say; "I love you so much.....I'm going to eat you up!" and then you pretend to eat them. Max LOVES it! He laughs and then he eats me up.  He also loves to be made into a sandwich/hamburger between 2 pillows and again be eaten up.

You'd think with all the games we play that involve eating he would eat really well.  He doesn't.  He can't be bothered with eating, he would much rather play.  He sits down twice a day and eats a reasonable meal.  I feel like that is a huge accomplishment. He seems to be growing all right so I think he's getting enough food.  He pretty much lives on chocolate milk and peanut butter and honey sandwiches although he will actually eat pretty good food if I can get him to sit down long enough.   He loves corn, peas, green beans, asparigus, cooked carrots, cooked broccoli, bananas, apples, grapes. He likes chicken and turkey, tomatoes, yogurt, toast.  He loves whole grain pancakes and has eaten as many as 4 in one sitting.  He likes juice. He doesn't love drinking out of regular cups. I think he hasn't figured out how to chug it yet so he gets frustrated that he can't drink as fast as he wants to. He's still uses sippy cups for most everything.   He can use silverware but prefers to eat with his hands. He doesn't like chocolate AT ALL. He won't swallow just plain chocolate (i.e. M&M's, candy bars, chocolate chips, etc). He likes to try it if everyone else is eating it, but he just spits it out.  He just recently started eating chocolate chip cookies, I think the cookie is enough to cover up the chocolate.  He definately loves fruity candy.  He likes to put jelly beans in his pocket and run around and snack on them.  He likes skittles, starburst, fruit snacks, sour patch kids, mike and ikes and the list goes on. Sometimes when he's being funny he'll tell me he wants some sort of candy for "dinner" (every meal is dinner, no matter what time of day it is) and then wait for me to say; "You can't have (insert candy name here) for breakfast, you silly!" Then he'll laugh.

Max is such a good boy. He just doesn't get into stuff. I can leave him down stairs and go take a shower and I know that he'll be fine.  He'll just play or watch a show, he'll come in to the bathroom to check on me when he gets bored.  He rarely gets into trouble when I let him just play like that.  He spends most of the time singing to himself anyway.  He is getting really good about going shopping, visiting friends, whatever errands we have to run.  I've found that if he just knows where we are going and what behavior is expected of him he is an angel most of the time.  He is of course 3 and still finding his boundaries and he gets pretty grumpy when he's hungry but for the most part he is a really easy kid.

Some more of his favorite things right now.  Bugs, all kinds of bugs but especially spiders. He was a spider for Halloween, Nate was a bumble bee and I was a lady bug. Max LOVED that! He thought it was so great that we were all bugs. He still asks where our costumes are.  He loves Mount Rushmore. We went in June with my family and Max hasn't stopped talking about it since. He still prays for it on a regular basis.  He talks about it all the time. He "sees" it everytime we get in the car and asks me if I see it to. For about 2 months after we went he would ask me if that was where we were going, everytime we got in the car.  He thinks George Washington's name is Mount Rushmore. He'll name all the presidents starting with Mount Rushmore.  He has a friend named Lincoln and he tells me whenever he talks about Lincoln, "Mom, Lincoln and Abraham Lincoln!"   Max loves Toy Story, Incredibles, Thomas the Tank Engine, Clifford the Big Red dog, Mickey Mouse, Elmo. He loves watching musicals and singing all the songs. He loves to watch youtube music videos. He loves to read and really loves going to the Library.  So many books to choose from.  He loves to do puzzles.  He loves to play with friends. He loves to go for walks, especially when he gets to decide where we go. He loves slides.  He is an energetic, smart, happy, fun boy.

I feel truly blessed to have Max in our family.  I know that he was sent to our family for a reason.  He brings us so much joy.  I treasure every day that I have with him.  I love I have been able to stay home and just be his mom.  I get to watch him grow up and discovery the world and develop his personality.  I get to play with him and teach him.  I get to hold him when he's sad and kiss his "owwies" better. I get to fly him into bed and listen to the sweet prayers that he says.  I get to be his mom for forever and I couldn't be more honored.

I love you Maximillian Omer Peck!  Happy Birthday Kiddo!

Happy Birthday Jennifer

Nate's cousin (and mine!) had a birthday on July 2nd. Happy birthday Jennifer! We love you!!! She invited us to her birthday party and it was a lot of fun. Jennifer is so great. Nate and I just love her. We have grown really close to her and her sister Kayla and they actually want to get together with us which is cool since they are both single and we are old, married and have a kid. Of course they adore Max (and what's not to adore), and most of our time together is spent watching "the Max Show". I just want to say to Jennifer, Happy Birthday! We really love hanging out with you guys, thanks for letting us tag along!
Sitting around talking.
Kayla "flying" Max, He LOVED it!
Snuggling with Aunt Darla, good times.

Catching up

Sometimes I feel like I am always catching up. I won't bore you with too many of the details I would like to give you some of the highlights of the last 3 weeks though.

1) My birthday was GREAT!! We stayed at the Airport Hilton in SLC, thanks to Nate's Marriot points. We ate at MacCool's. An excellent Irish restaurant in Layton. It is so good, I have never had anything I don't like and I've never been with anyone who did. The service is great, you never have to wait to get seated, even on Valentine's Day. We love it! Anyway, we did that Friday night, we got to the Hotel late and Nate totally crashed. He had been up all night (literally he didn't sleep a wink the night before thanks to W.O.W and Jason Wheeler). So much for our romantic get away. Saturday morning we woke up late, got ready went to Red Rock Brewery for lunch. I got the vegetarian roulade. I have been craving it for about a year now. It was totally worth it. So good. We then went to see "The Producers" at the Pioneer Theatre Company. It was SO funny. It's by Mel Brooks so if you don't appreciate a little (or a lot) of crude humor I wouldn't recommend it. Nate and I laughed until it hurt. Some of the stuff they pull off is amazing. Sometimes I was totally shocked but couldn't stop laughing. Let me just say this, there is a point in the show where a girl walks out wearing swastica pasties that are spinning. I'll leave it at that. That night we did some shopping at the Gateway and ate at a sports bar. It was great! We slept in Sunday morning and came home and picked up Max from my mom. Thanks mom for watching him for us. It was a great gift. That night my mom made dinner for my birthday as if she hadn't already done enough. The whole family came (minus Rich and Juli and kids). It was BethAnne's boyfriend's daughter's birthday that day so they brought her up and we had a little celebration for her too. She got presents and a cake and she played with the kids, I think she had a good time. Thanks Mom, Your the best!

2) Nate's parents stayed with us last week. It was great to see them. We have seen them more since they moved to the states but a couple times a year just isn't enough still. It was so nice to have them. They are such great house guests and so much fun. We went shopping (mom and I), we hung up some drapes (Thanks Dad), we went for walks with Max, we sat around and talked, we stayed up late and got up early. It was a pretty fun week. They were actually going to stay the week before and be in Boise last week, but they heard that Nate was going to be in town last week so they switched their plans which worked out really well since Max was sick all week anyway. They got spend time with Nate and Max when he was healthy. Nate was really happy to have some time with them. He still had to work during the day which was really hard since he works from home and we were all there talking and laughing and having a good time and he was stuck in his office. Oh well, you can't have everything. It looks like they aren't going to be able to come back for about 18 months since they will be getting a mission call here pretty soon. Love you guys!

3) We did the race for the cure on the 10th (Saturday). It ended up being more then a little controversial at my house. We did it anyway. I really think it is for a good cause, even if it is a misnomer and only a quarter of the money (or less) goes to actually finding a cure and most of it goes to early detection, treatment and education. And even if they do donate some of their money to the Gay and Lesbian foundation. I think cancer sucks! Wouldn't you say so Kate. And any foundation that is doing something to make a difference for all the people out there who get it is doing a good thing and I will support it. So we did the Race For the Cure. I tell you I have never seen so many people at a race before. I haven't run very many races and not many really big ones but there were a lot of people there. I was running to the finish line and there was still a whole street full of people who were just barely starting. It was crazy. I loved it! I love all the energy of so many people doing something together. We ran with Max. Well, Nate ran with Max. I think Max had a good time, he likes to have people around. He wanted to get out of the stroller after sitting at the finish line for 45 minutes but he was pretty good. We also ran with Lonnie and Glenn, they brought all 3 of their kids and ran with them which is really impressive I think. My cousin Jolynn ran it too. We started together and ended near each other but got lost in the massive crowds of people and didn't see each other again.

I think that is all the major news. The really good news is that Max is better! Yeah! I hate it when he is sick and I can't do anything for him. He is back to his happy, mischievous ways and I couldn't be happier. He is so much fun and so smart. He makes me laugh all the time. He has developed quit the sense of humor. It is really funny, and his laugh is so cute I can't help but laugh (see previous post)even when he is in trouble. I love it. Sorry this is so long, if you are even still reading this. Enjoy the pictures!

Happy Birthday Maria

This is what we did last year for my birthday. It was a lot of fun. It was my Golden Birthday, I turned 25 on the 25th. So we had a big party at Boondocks in Draper. It was so much fun. If you haven't been there I highly recommend it.
This year we will be celebrating a little bit differently.

Nate has booked us a Hotel for 2 nights in the exotic Salt Lake City!!! I couldn't be more excited about it. My mom has volunteered to watch Max for us so we are going to enjoy some quiet time alone. Nate has been gone the last 2 weeks and will be gone again next week so this will be really nice. He will miss Max a lot but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.

So I'm turning 26. I can't believe it. Some of you are probably saying I'm so young, and some of you are probably saying I'm getting old. I feel like I am just right. I feel like I am in the right place in my life. I have been thinking about it all week and I think I wouldn't change anything in my life right now. Oh, I've got projects to do and things to work on, that is a never ending process. As far as the important things go, I'm really happy with my life. I have really been so blessed. I'm just going to list some of the many things that bless my life.

I have a wonderful loving husband. Nate really is the best thing for me. I couldn't have found someone better for me. I love him so much. He is SO honest. He is fiercely loyal. He is a good hard working man. He respects me. He listens to me. He has a testimony of the Gospel and the Atonement of the Savior. He worthily holds the priesthood and is always willing to us it. He is a great father. He loves Max so much. He loves me so much. He would do anything for us. He makes me laugh. Some people think that is dumb or laugh when I say that but its true. I think laughter is such a wonderful thing. I think Nate is very funny and he loves to make me laugh so it works out well for both of us. He can always make me laugh even when I don't want too and sometimes that is exactly what I need. He is always there to listen to me when I just need to talk. He is always there to hold me when I just need to cry. He is always there for me no matter what I need.

I have the best son in the whole world. I know he's all I ever talk about but he is really my favorite little boy. He is so cute and fun. I love the age he is at right now. It is so much fun to watch him explore and learn and develop. He is learning so fast I sometimes have a hard time keeping up with him. He is so smart and watches every move I make. I can tell he is watching and learning. That is a little bit intimidating because he is picking up all of my little nuances. He is such a happy baby. I just love it. Sometimes I get so frustrated because he is too happy. He just laughs and plays when I think he should be sleeping or at least getting tired. It is so much fun. He has started to really develop an attitude and opinions about things, especially what he wants and what he thinks is funny. He is so great. He lights up my life. I can't believe I was so blessed to have him. I am so grateful every day for him.

I have a wonderful family. My mom and dad still spoil me. They are taking Max this weekend for crying out loud. They have us over for dinner just about every sunday. They are constantly giving us things and helping us out and just making our lives better and I am so grateful for them. They are wonderful parents. They have been a shining example to me. I have learned so much from them. They are great people and they are so generous and selfless. They've taught me how to work hard and serve others. Probably the biggest thing they have taught me is that love is unconditional. I will be forever grateful for that and for them.

My brothers and sisters are AWESOME! I am so lucky. I have the best family. I could go into so much detail but it would take forever so I will just say, Thank you for still being so much a part of my life. I think all the time that I am so glad you are all here and sharing my life with me. I love you all more than I can express.

Nate's family is the best! Seriously, I have a great family and then I married into a great family. I didn't even know them really when we got married. I didn't really know what I was getting into. Luckily Nate was right when he told me "They're great, You'll love them". I really do. I am actually really excited. Nate's parents are coming to stay with us next week. I am so looking forward to having them. They have been here a lot recently (2 weeks when Max was born, 1 month in the summer and then we spent 10 days with them for Christmas) and I have missed them a lot. I am so blessed to have them and all of Nate's family. I really feel at home with them and I don't really see them all that often. I just feel really comfortable with them and I love it. They accept me and love me for who I am and I am so grateful for that.

I have the best friends in the world. I have friends from my childhood that I love dearly. We will always be friends. They are amazing people and I have learned so much from them. I am so glad that we were placed in each others lives at the time we were. I can honestly say I don't know if I would have made it through my teenage years without them. They are so strong and have carried me when I needed it. Thank you girls.
Having said that, I have been learning recently that I'm pretty good at meeting people but not good at making friends. When it comes right down to it, I'm pretty shy. I have a hard time making a connection and feeling like I could actually call someone to talk or hang out or whatever. I have always felt that it isn't the quantity but the quality of friends that is important. I think I'm changing my mind now. There are so many amazing people out there. I have just been closed to them because of my own insecurities or biases or whatever. I am starting to develop some friendships that I have been longing for but too withdrawn to actually cultivate. I am loving it. I have so much to learn and there are so many people around me who can teach me and help me and lift me up. I wish I could take back all the time I've wasted.

While I am on the topic of friends I have to include the Nybo's. They are our second family. I love them so much. They are the people we probably do the most stuff with. They have been so good to Nate before I was ever in the picture and they have just opened up their arms and their hearts and welcomed me and made me feel loved and wanted and accepted. They love Max and are so good to him. Thanks guys, I know this is totally cheesy but none of you are going to read this anyway. I love you guys.

I know this is going on forever I just can't stop typing there is so much to be thankful for. I will end with this. I am so blessed to have the Gospel. I KNOW that it is true. It is something I have always had and I am so grateful for that. I know that I am loved. I know that I can be forgiven. I know that I am not alone. I know the Book Of Mormon is true. I know that families are forever. I know that the Lord has truly blessed me and I am so grateful for Him. For everything that I have been given. For all of the opportunities I have to learn and grow and become more like Him. I love Him with my whole soul. He has given me everything. For that I am eternally grateful.
