Postcard swap....

I don't usually do swaps because the postage costs here in Canada are prohibitive (I'm a miserly old misery) but I was interested in a swap that happened over at Frayed At The Edge.

It was for fabric postcards. I hadn't heard of these before but since I have seen more and more out there in blogland. I didn't know the rules but I do now...LOL

My swap partner was a lady who lived in Berwick upon Tweed in England. She wasn't a blogger so I was a bit tentative as to what to do and what she would like. I couldn't visit and spy....drat.

This is what I sent her......

I thought I would do something that was Canadianish.....hence the North American Robin. Our robins are very different than the robins found in Britain. The embroidery pattern is from Sublime Stitching and is based on the artwork of Ryan Berkley. I faffed around with this thing for ages and ended up just putting the head onto the card. I did have a print of an old fashioned postcard on the back but I forgot to take a picture of it.

I was also supposed to send a postcard showing where I lived.....

I used to work on the 50th floor of one of the tall office buildings to the right of the CN Tower....I had a fabulous view of Lake Ontario:)

Now my swap partner wrote me a lovely letter and she did do a bit of research on me so her postcard is totally me....it's purple and has a mouse on it:)

Isn't it cute:)

She also sent me a map and some postcards.....

I think my hubby wants the map...maybe I'll give it to him.

Take care:)

I got mail.....

Today I received my swap doll from my Damselfly Swap partner. I was a bit worried as the mailmen are threatening to strike but fortunately she arrived in one piece safe and sound.

Here she is...her name is Syrina......

My pictures are the pits........they don't do her justice. She is a pretty mauvey purple with turquoise. He wings are made from a sheer fabric/ribbon and she has a very pretty belt around her middle.

I also got some other goodies and a card with a sweet dragonfly on it......:)

Thank you Kathie. You are a great swap partner. You can find Kathie here......Beyond The Storybook.

Take care:)

Damselfly done......

Well she's done and I have sent her on her way to my swap partner.

My partner likes shades of purple so......
It was very hard getting a good picture because she is fairly large......her wing span is about 15 inches and she's about 16+ inches in length. Her wings and body were spot dyed with rust from steel wool. I then dabbed gold paint on her wings to give them a bit more colour. Her body and head are covered with Stef Francis 5400 rayon thread. Her middle is covered with a bit of vintage beaded trim. The beads are in shades of blue and mauve. On her head is a small piece of gold vintage lace with a small purple swarovski crystal in the middle. Her face is coloured with pencil and crayon.

She looks very Art - Deco........maybe I was channeling Erté.

The light was terrible for taking pictures as we have had rain almost non stop. We've broken the all time record for rain in May.

Take care:)

"The Lady Dragon Fly Doll Swap"

A few posts back I mentioned that I was going to participate in a swap at Thimbleprims Studio. I received the pattern  and it looks very easy to make.  I won't give any secrets away but the design on the body is very inventive:)

I took a picture of the photograph on the outside of the pattern package. Not a great picture because the surface was shiny and I was getting feedback............

Yes.....that's a Peak Freans cookie tin behind it......sadly no cookies in it though:(.........just embroidery thread.

Take care.

Lady Dragonfly Doll Swap.........

I'm going to do something I have never done before which is always a good thing.

I'm participating in the "Lady Dragonfly Doll Swap" hosted by Cindy of Thimbleprims Studio.

The pattern we are going to use is a new one by Cindee Moyer called "Damselfly". It looks like a very different and interesting pattern so I thought I'd give it a try...........why not!

I really like Cindee Moyer's work because I think she is a unique and innovative doll designer. It should be fun:)

While I was ordering the Damselfly pattern I just happened to order another one called
Painting Her Roses Red.......Cindee's take on the Queen of Hearts......heehee.

Take care.
