How Filofax helps - two years experience

I came to my mom's house, where I haven't been in two years, and I found a ring binder in a personal size. I forgot about it completely.  And I forgot about my goals and projects that I've written two years ago and left inside of this binder, at my mom's house, miles away from me. It meant that I couldn't look inside the binder, I couldn't remember what I have written, I couldn't look it all up to remind me what I wanted to accomplish!

I was astonished.  Goals that I couldn't even imagine how to start and where to have a starting point, let alone how to finish/accomplish them, that's how unrealistic they have been for me, almost all of them, have touchable, real, finished boundaries, they are clear on how to make them happen now!
It also was a good check on what I unconsciously  considered was worth to work on, and what wasn't.
That was the point when I started to use my filofax again. A little bit later, I made another "eurica"moment.  While I was writing in my Filofax, I realized how I was lacking rings! I could write each of my project and goal on a SEPARATE sheet of paper,  and leave it like that to work on it later. For some unexplainable reason, it didn't work in my Midori Traveler's Notebooks! Probably, the physical boundaries of the bound notebook has kept me from writing out each and every project tgat I wanted to do. I was afraid to use up the notebook, the I would needed to rewrite them all again! And I needed to reshuffle pages in order to organize them in  a logical order!
What I did right after that  was cutting the pages for my filofax. A lot of them.  Damn, I don't let paper to dictate me what to write and how to write!
P.S. I didn't stop using my Midori Traveler's Notebook, I use it for my journal writing! Filofax is good for planning and goals and projects setting, and Midori is good for journal writing because I need a lot of pages for it and rings prevent me from writing on the left side of pages!
Now I'm happy!

How to Use a Planner regularly (Filofax)

The most EVER useful trick that I learned in organizing space, was "have things where you need them". Even if you need them in unconventional places!

If the only one place,  where you use your planner is a toilet,  have your planner suplies there. No, I'm not going to confess that I use it there. (No, I don't want to hear your confessions that you use it there too! Yes, you could make a secret toilet planner society and invite me there).
Your planner supplies could be:
-an archive box to store your future and past planner pages, as well as blank pages,
-pens, highliters, pensils, stensils, stamps, incs,
-stickers, flags, tabs, dividers.
The best way to use them is to have them all in one tote or in one rollable cart.
I am guilty in not using an archive box regularly,  which results in loosing my past pages because I can't remember where I left them and then I'm lazy to collect them to have one proper year archive. I cannot stress enough this! Have your supplies where you need them!
In different times I used to use my planner in different rooms and places, it was my kitchen, my living room, my bedside table, my bag. And if you notice that the place where you use your planner has changed, change your planner supplies place accordingly!

My Ideal Filofax

I have already made a video about how I invision my ideal binder. You could watch it here http://mysummertouch1.blogspot.ru/2013/07/mella-video.html?m=1.
But it was pretty long time ago. I'd like to dream about it now. Could I?
My ideal binder would be black. I like all things that look professional and business-like. Leather.  Two outside pockets, one for coins,  and one for cash. They need to be on the back of the outside cover, so the front cover would look clean and stylish.

The binder would have a back full lenght pocket, just like a pocket Malden has, so I could slip there a larger size paper without folding it. Yes, it means that the two outside coins and cash pockets would sit on the outside full lenght pocket. I don't know how it could be done in reality. But it should.
The strap will be exactly like a Malden's. Long and accomodating. In case you haven't seen a Malden Filofax yet, here is my review: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mWNwctqFVuM
Two pen loops, on both sides of the cover, leather on the outside of tge loop, elastic on the inside to accomodate different kinds of pens. Pen loops need to be placed on the upper third part of the cover, not in the middle, to hold pens better.

Also the size of the paper of a personal size Filofax is weird to me. I have never written about it before, but now you know my biggest dirty secret. I'm not ok with filofax paper sizes. A5 is the right size, a6 is the right size, Franklin Covey Compact size is also the right size (wider than a personal size Filofax for 1 cm or 0.5 inch).
A6 is ideal because it wouldn't let me cut and throw away the paper. I could cut an A4 sheet in four parts, and use up the whole sheet of paper,  and not throw away the rest of the paper.

But I continue. The inside of the left side of the cover will have 10 horizontal pockets for business cards or credit cards (my Franklin Covey Compact binder has them on the right inside cover. So much room for business cards without buying the extra special inserts!).

Then, after the business cards slots, two vertical pockets, one after another. The first one will be a secretarial pocket to slip a bigger size paper, and the second one is a regular pocket, so I could slip a Midori passport size notebook inside.
The right side inside cover will have exactly the same pockets as a Malden. I love them as they are.

And, finally,  rings. Rings are REMOVABLE. Yes, as in my review of a Filofax Folio here http://mysummertouch1.blogspot.ru/2014/07/filofax-nappa-zipped-folio-with.html?m=1.
They have to be on a separate plastic sheet and be 30 mm. So I could remove them and insert smaller rings (23 mm). And the smallest too (19mm). It make the binder rather wide to physically accomodate the biggest rings. And I need it even wider in case I need to put a regular size Midori notebook if I need it!
And the ideal size of it would be... personal, A6, or a Midori regular size (21cm x 11cm)? Rather, the last one! I like the A5 narrow size! Then I could use Midori notebooks together with a Fofax! A Frankenstein Filofax!
How do you like this idea?
Do you know a company that would make it? Gillio? VDS?

What is your planner story (Filofax, Midori Traveler's Notebook etc.)?

Everybody use her's planner differently.  Have you even thought about what is the main purpose to have a planner?

1.To show your status ( then you must have a planner that clearly shows it!)?
2. To follow a trend to use paper planners (filofax, midori, kikki k, erin condren life planner etc.)?
3. To organize your appointments?
4. To have a clear head free of all those annoying "don't forget to do's" (Then you must be an expert in brain dumping).
5. To schedule your goals?
6.  To have a written record of your life?
7. To prove yourself that you have actually have things done, and time goes where it suppose to go?

Initially, when I started to use my filofax heavily in 2012, I used my planner for the written record of my life. Now, when I have my planner archives for these years, I think that these pages DOES represent my life, but just partially,  in part where I thought what was important to me. They did help me to analyse my life and to understand where my time went, and were the tasks on which I have spent my time worth spending it, and, as a result,  I did raised my productivity level higher up.
But it is just part that has to do with my tasks and projects. There are other parts of my life that I want to have a record of. My thoughts, my feelings, where do I want my life to go. It has to do with my journal. I think that is why I moved to using a journal regularly. That's why I have created #wannajournalmay (http://mysummertouch1.blogspot.ru/2015/04/wannajournalmay.html?m=1 ) challenge. And a goal setting system. But that's another story.
So what was your planner story? What do you use it for now? What did you use it for in the beginning of your planner history? Where did it led you to?

Testing out a Passport Size Midori Traveler's Notebook for Planning and Journaling!

Summer is coming! (Sorry, couldn't help it, Game of Trones fans!;)
And as it is coming, there is a need for something lighter in my handbag than a regular size Midori! Luckily, I do have a passport size Midori, and could try it out if it would work in real life! I plan to go half Earth from here to my mom's place,  and yes, I will bring my regular size Midori,  just because I don't want to part with it, but  I can't just leave the chance for  my small Midori to work a little bit after almost a year after buying it and not using! Another excuse to use it  for me is to try out this size for planning and journaling.  I have never journaled in such small sizes. Oh, no, I forgot my pocket filofax!

It was in October of last year, so I don't even remember it! I didn't feel any limitations in this size, just the rings got on the way of writing.  I write small, space is not an issue in journaling for me.
However,  in planning,  it might be!  I am used to MY way of planning with ability to see the whole month on two pages and tracking month page at a glance!  So, we will see!
Anyway,  I will transfer my planning from the small to the regular size because I like to have everything in one place. And journaling on the go. I will make my usual journaling,  when I am home, in the bigger Midori.
How do you plan to use your planner in the summer?

Midori TN Heaven-Where I bought all my Traveler's Notebooks!

I have recently went through my pictures from my last year's trip to China, and I have realized that I have never posted pictures from a boutique where I bought my four Midories!  Here are the photos from this Heaven on Earth:

I am a proud owner of four of those Midories that are pictured on the above photos,  as I said:
I bought there a passport size black one, two in a regular size:a brown and a black, and one in an A5 size,  which is not a real Midori TN, obviously,  but it IS for me! I have wanted to try the A5 size just for fun, and it turned out to be a very useful purchase because I am able to fit there all of my regular size  inserts without overhang!

Anyway, I am using all of them, switching them often!  I am also making my own Midories,  but about it later! What about you? Have you been to a planner Heaven lately?

How I create new tabs in my midoritravelersnotebook !

I wanted to share it with you in case you want to repeat it. I don't like repositionable tabs because there is the risk of losing them, and this risk is high since Midori cover has the same size as the notebooks inside it, and tge tabs are exposed to wear and tear!
I use a paper flags of different colors (yes, I do color code my tabs according to my 6 colorcoding system). I stamp the name of the tab with distress ink pad, fold the flag, and put it into desired place. Then cover the tab with three layers of scotch tape over it, and trim  the excess. That's it! The tabs are holding really well, I didn't have any problems with them, and I am not careful with them at all!
Hope you find my advice helpful!

My bulletjournal Week 16 in my Midori Travelers Notebook

I've had several requests on how I set up my Midori Travelers Notebook.  I will make the set up video soon, and so far I wanted to show you my week 16. I have dived in art journaling very deep recently, and "discovered" collages, and now start to read more books on painting, mixed media, and practice it all in my art/junque/collage journals that I made so far-three, to be exact. And I'm absolutely happy to finally dive heavy into it. It's something that I wanted to do for ten years, people!  And yes, I will make videos on my YouTube channel about them too! So, without further ado, here it is!

My Filofax Art Decoration Week 1/52 (Strange)

This week's decoration was inspired by one Strange Decoration on IG. Most likely she used stickers for her decorations, which I didn't want to use (my followers know that I don't like to use stickers). Instead, I used decorative scissors, and my favorite cosmetic catalog (a free one). I chose striped pink-gold-black colors, and tried to replicate the same patterns, it didn't turned out how it supposed to, but I got something that looked like leaves. I made my usual collage - put several layers one on another of the catalog's clippings, and glued it one on another (using regular paper glue). I must say, that collage makes my Filofax pages strong, and I like them more like that, I don't have to be careful with them after that! If you like my decortion, please share it and leave comments below!

My Filofax Art Decoration Week 52/52 (Christmas!)

I haven't decorated my Filofax in a long time, several weeks, excluding November pages in my pocket crimson Filofax, that I shown in my "Planner  Addict Tag" video, and the day after Christmas I felt the urge to do it, and are very happy with the result! I hope you like it too!
It is a little collage out of a cosmetic company catalog, which are great for that kind of decoration. No washes and stickers used! Gold and pink theme, which turned out as a pretty "partners" together! I need to remember this color combination! Sometimes I discover these kind of color combination just by trying out. This time it worked out!
I used decoration scissors for the borders, Rapesco 6 hole punch for the right page, regular scissors,  and a  regular glue, nothing really fancy!
Have you decorated your pages? Please, leave links to your pictures below! I'll be happy to see them all, always great to see PLANNER eyecandy! :)
