Hello and welcome to the June DeNami Design Blog Hop! The theme of this month's hop is Bright Blossoms!!
Hopefully, you've arrived here by way of Tina Milbourn's blog. If so, you are on the right track! If not, you'll want to head over to the DeNami blog to start the blog hop at the beginning. (And remember, if you get lost along the way, you can always head over to the DeNami blog to get pointed in the right direction.)
Don't
forget, there are some super-fun DeNami prizes to be won! Two lucky commenters
will be drawn at random from among the comments left along the
blog hop to win a $20 DeNami Design gift certificate! You have until
Monday, June 9, 2014, 11:59 pm PST, to leave comments on all the
blogs to be eligible for a prize.
Here's how I interpreted this month's theme:
I had a great time using elements from the Solid Flower Accents Set, Garden Accents Set, Whimsical Garden Set, and Solid Petals Set to build my own bright blossoms for this large 5" x 7" card! I stamped cling versions of the Get Well Soon and Praying for You sentiments for the flower stems, and used a strip of Green Graph Washi Tape to ground the whole design. I also use these inks from the DeNami Design store: Fresh Green Versacolor, Pearlescent Orchid Brilliance, and Habanero Versafine.
Well, that does it for today's card! It's time for me to send you along on your way. But
before you leave for more DeNami inspiration, be sure to
leave a
comment to be eligible for the randomly drawn prizes. Then you can
head out to see the next blog hop participant on today's list: Ruza Rebel.
Thanks so much for stopping by today! Enjoy the blog hop,
Emily

Feel Better Soon + my GIU WINNER!
Happy, happy Monday to you! I hope you had a great weekend. We were busy, busy little beavers here at my house, so the weekend just flew. We made a special trip to the Museum of Science in Boston to take in the special Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit on Saturday morning. It was absolutely fascinating!! We really learned sooooooooooo much.
Well, I'm here today to announce the winner from my week of posts as Growing In Unity gal last week! I had a total of 269 entries--WOW!! Thanks to everyone who came by last week. I really appreciate ALL of your comments! It was the best fun reading through every single one of them. I wish I could have given ALL of you a prize!! But, since I can't, I'll leave you with one last bit of Unity inspiration: a little Feel Better Soon card made with a clear acrylic card base and LOTS of buttons. I think this will be perfect for someone who's feeling under the weather!
The sunshine image is from Unity's Quotes a'la HAPPY, and the sentiment is from the amazingly useful Just Wanted to Say kit. That fun cloud background is a digital paper printed out from the ultra sweet Baby Safari collection by Carina Gardner (available from JessicaSprague.com).
Allrighty then, enough stalling! On with the GIU winner:
I used Random.org to draw the lucky number.
That points to Carla from Utah!!!!
Now, Carla, I couldn't find any way to contact you directly*, so it is up to you to email me to claim your prize!! You'll find my email address by clicking on the "View my Complete Profile" link just under the "About Me" section in the right-hand sidebar of my blog; look for the "Contact Me" section. In your email, please include your choice of two Itty Bitty stamp sets from Unity (you may browse the selection HERE) as well as your shipping address, and I'll get that info sent off to Unity pronto.
Carla, if I don't hear from you by 10 AM EDT on Wednesday, June 12, I'll have to draw another winner so I can get my GIU week all wrapped up with Unity in a timely fashion.
Another huge thanks to everyone who participated in this awesome Unity giveaway! Have a great week! Thanks for stopping by,
Emily
* Carla, normally I'd reply to the email address associated with your comments, but you are a "noreply-comment" commenter on blogger! Click HERE to find out what that is and how to fix it. And you haven't included an email address as a way to contact you on your Blogger Profile page. My next step would be to leave a comment on your blog, but you don't have one!!! So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you come back to check for my winner post, find your name lit up in lights, and drop me an email ASAP!! Unfortunately, so many "noreply" bloggers don't realize they can't be contacted in the event of a win and never check back for winners' posts because they think "of course I can be contacted!" I hope you aren't one of those folks, Carla!!! Waiting eagerly to hear from you!!!!

Get Well Soon for FWF
Happy TGIF, everyone! Whew, it's been a busy week here, but I've been looking forward to linking up with Unity's Friends with Flair all week long. Last week was the first linkup I'd been able to do in a long, long time and I loved being back!
Today I'm sharing a card that I had published in the July issue of CARDS magazine. It was for a feature on using felt in a card design. My "twist" on this theme was to literally twist a thin scrap of ivory felt into a corkscrew ribbon. So easy! All I had to do then was tack it down to my card with two brads. Of course, my card used all (and only!) Unity stamps: the sentiment is from {ippity}'s Just Wanted to Say, and the flower and leaf are from {ippity}'s Now & Always. I paper-pieced that gorgeous flower using papers from Lily Bee's Picket Fence 6 x 6 pad, which I'd won as blog candy from my wonderful blog friend, Pam. Thanks, Pam!
Have any good plans for the weekend? My kids have an early release day today, so after a quick lunch here at home, we are heading out to spend some Kohl's Cash (my daughter needs new sneakers) and some CVS ExtraCare Bucks (I figure the kids can pick out some fun snacks or treats for themselves--why not? It won't be money out of my pocket, and it's a fun way to celebrate their half school day!). Then the kids are going to work on decorating their Halloween pumpkin. They have the cutest plans! I'll be sure to share photos soon so you can see how it turned out.
Other than that, I think it will be a quiet weekend at home just catching up on around-the-house stuff, homework, and relaxing. Although all this news about "Frankenstorm" may necessitate a bit of battening down the hatches!! I sure hope that a lot of what we're hearing is just hype. Fingers crossed!!
Thanks for dropping by to share a little slice of bliss with me today!

Get Well Medallion
Good morning! And a Happy Labor Day to all of my fellow Americans. I hope that you are enjoying the last extended weekend of the summer!
Today I am sharing a little something different that I cooked up for the brand-new Anything Goes monthly challenge using my DeNami Design rubber stamps.
I just love a brown/aquamarine color combo, so I knew I wanted to put that to good use for this card. I also adore the Ornamental Vine stamp and was playing around with it a bit, ending up with a really cool-looking medallion design. I thought it would make a super focal point for a card! I kept my design simple, opting for some Small Swirl Corners to frame the medallion. I quickly ran out of room for a sentiment, so I punched a label to slip under the edge for my "get well soon" sentiment.
Got DeNami stamps? If so, then you have no excuse for not playing along with this month's Anything Goes challenge! Check out all the challenge details, along with other DT challenge samples, today over on the DeNami blog.
Thanks for stopping by!

10-Minute Nurture Yourself
So, I mentioned on Sunday that I was waiting to pick up my daughter from her Girl Scout camping trip. Well, she returned safely and had a great time, but came home with a few hitchhikers. Three to be exact: deer ticks. You know, the tiny kind that can carry Lyme disease, and we live in--you guessed it--prime Lyme territory. We removed them successfully (with tweezers, the best method according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. There are a lot of folklore removal methods out there, but some can actually increase the likelihood of disease transmission {something to do with increased salivation; I know, ewwwwwwwww!}. Our motto: when in doubt, yank it out!). Anyway, I consulted with our pediatrician yesterday, and because we have no way of knowing if the ticks were attached for less than 24 hours, we'll have her tested for Lyme disease in four to six weeks. (Yeah, it takes that long for it to show up in tests!) In the meantime, we'll keep our eyes peeled for that telltale bullseye rash, which apparently presents in only 60% of Lyme disease cases, so testing will be crucial. Our pediatrician mentioned that the practice has been seeing a lot of Lyme disease recently, most likely due to our very mild winter. Darn, and I was kind of liking that! I guess I'd better hope for lots of cold, snow, and ice next year!
Enough of the yucky stuff, let's get on with a card!
Today I am sharing, appropriately enough, a get well card! I realized last week that my supply of such cards has been depleted, so it was time to re-stock. Because I've been so time-crunched, I decided to play along with Flourishes' Gimme Ten challenge again, to make a 10-minute card.
I used three sets from Flourishes to put together this card: Sunflowers, Tiny Flowers and Tags, and From the Garden. I made a super-quick background by scoring a 3.75" x 3.75" piece of cardstock in a grid and stamping a tiny daisy in each square. I already had that handmade spiral fabric flower in my stash, and all that was left to do was quickly stamp and trim a few leaves. Done! I'm linking this up as my final entry in Julie Koerber's Celebrate Five challenge.
I also used some more Bazzill Card Shoppe cardstock to make this card. Today's colors are Peanut Cluster (for the card base), Gumball (for the blue scored panel), and Easter Grass (for the leaves). I am so impressed with how will this cardstock scores: nice crisp lines and no danger of accidentally perforating the paper. And even though this is nice heavyweight cardstock (100 lb.), I had no trouble fussy-cutting those leaves, although I admit I wasn't going for precision here. It is, after all, a 10-minute card!
Well, I already have dinner in the crockpot, and the kids are off to school, so it's time to get cranking on my freelance work for the day. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hang in There
We are off to march in our town's Memorial Day parade this morning. Both our daughter and son will be marching with their scout groups; my husband and I will be marching along with the Cub Scouts to help with crowd boy control and to lug along the mini American flags that the boys will be passing out to spectators along the parade route. Luckily our burdens will lighten the further along the route we get! This parade is always such a fun time, and the weather appears to be cooperating. Yay!
I wanted to pop in quickly to share the card I made for Paper Crafts' Gallery Idol competition, season six. The theme for the open auditions round is encouragement, and I thought and thought about it and finally came up with this card:
I figured that a frilly pink polka-dotted brassiere shaped card with an accompanying "hang in there" sentiment would be the perfect encouragement card for a girlfriend who's going through rough times! My daughter (13) thought this was the cutest ever. My 9YO son's first reaction was "I think that's kind of . . . um, inappropriate." When my daughter explained that "she wouldn't send it to a man, silly," his attitude softened a bit. But his response pointed out that what I thought hilarious and fun might not be received similarly by everyone else. So I do apologize to any and all who share my son's views!!
A few program notes: I designed this bra-shaped card myself. It's hinged at the top of the straps so there's a bra-shaped inside as well for a handwritten note. The card base is solid pink cardstock (The Paper Company), and the polka-dotted bra cups were cut from patterned paper in the Handmade collection by Lily Bee Design. I glued some lace trim from my sewing stash to the back of the patterned paper, and then stitched the whole thing down to the card base. Remember when lingerie always had a little pink rose stitched to the center? That was my inspiration for the placement of this sweet little satin ribbon rose (a gift from my friend Carol--thanks, sweetie!). I stamped the "hang in there" sentiment (a retired stamp from The Angel Company, which is sadly no longer in business) on a strung marking tag from Avery to tie around one of the straps. A little bling on the tag was all I needed to finish this up. I love how it turned out, and really, it was pretty easy to make. A win, win!
I hope you had a fabulous weekend, and if you are in the U.S., that you enjoy the rest of your Memorial Day holiday! Thanks for dropping in for a visit.

Feminine Flair
I'm so excited that this is another release week at Flourishes! I love seeing each month's new sets and playing in all of the release week challenges. This time around the week-long release challenge is to add a little Feminine Flair to your project. I needed a get well card for yet another friend who is having surgery, and today's card will be perfect for her.
This card all started with a lovely piece of patterned paper that my dear, dear friend Colleen sent me (along with a delightful collection of SU scraps and diecuts that she picked up from her fabulous SU demo. Thanks a million, Col!!). I have no idea what it's from, but it was sized perfectly for folding into an A2-sized card. And I love that the back of the card will be patterned, too! My daffodil image is from Flourishes' A Year in Flowers Set 1. I stamped it in Versamark ink and used my Stampin' Pastels to reveal the image. I'm sure you can spy the feminine flair I added: a paper doily, vintage lace trim, a pearl stick pin, and lots of adhesive pearls. I realized that in my collection of Flourishes stamps I don't have any "Get Well" sentiments--something I should take care of fixing soon! So I used this perfectly sized "Take Care" instead. I can hand-write a "get well" message inside. ;)
Thanks for stopping by!

Delft-Inspired Take Care
I'm trying to keep this short--my wrists are still bothering me (typing/scrolling/clicking), but I couldn't keep away any longer! (I can craft with little or no trouble, but working at the computer puts a real strain on things.)
I needed a get well card for a friend who just had surgery, so I decided to play along with this week's Timeless Tuesday Challenge #147 at Flourishes, which is a sketch challenge. I used three Flourishes sets: Paperwhites, Country Charm Borders, and Tag Lines.

Like the crocheted frame? My blogging friend Jessi makes these! I am in awe of her crocheting (and quilling, too!). She's such a sweetie--she made me a whole set of these lovelies, and I'm finally allowing myself to dip into my much-hoarded stash. Thanks, Jessi! I love how this looks. It really makes the card!
For some reason I had Delftware, which I love, on the brain today and thought that would be a great way to go for this get well card. I searched for and was inspired by this lovely plate. Doesn't it work well with the sketch?
I've missed blogging, surfing, and commenting. Just this post has put all kinds of strain on my tender spots, so it may be a while longer before I can get around to visit your blogs. I miss all of you!

Friends with Flair
It's been a jam-packed day with unforeseen tasks needing attention, so I'm arriving rather late to the Friends with Flair party this week. But here I am {finally!} with another Unity creation to share:
This card was inspired by this week's Finesse the Dress Tuesday Trigger in the Moxie Fab World.
And I'm playing along with a great sketch from the new Chick Challenges {with ippity}:

A huge thanks to Noelle for some insight on an easy approach to making an oval-shaped card. Making this shaped card was trivial!! The heavy lifting in this design is being handled by some beautiful gold-glitter-embossed patterned paper from DCWV's Indian Summer stack. My sentiment and frame from Just Wanted to Say from {ippity} by Unity. And my gauzy flower? That's a Bloomer from Webster's Pages.
This card was so much fun to put together! I love how it turned out. I'm running low on get well cards, so this will be a great addition to my stash.
Thanks for checking out my little slice of bliss today!

DeNami Tasty Treats Blog Hop
Welcome to the DeNami Design Tasty Treats Blog Hop!

Hopefully, you've arrived here by way of Laurie Willison's blog, Soapbox Creations. If so, you are on the right track! If not, you'll want to head over to the DeNami blog to start the blog hop at the beginning. (And remember, if you get lost along the way, you can always head over to the DeNami blog to get pointed in the right direction.)
This month's blog hop is all about Tasty Treats!! Hop along for some great inspiration and comment along the way for a chance at some free DeNami products! Here are the details:
When: The blog hop starts on September 11 at 6 AM, PDT. However, you have until September 12, 2011, 11:59 pm PDT, to leave comments on all the blogs (to be eligible for a prize).
Why: To be inspired by tasty treats creations featuring DeNami Design stamps and also the chance to win mini shopping sprees on the DeNami Design website!
Prizes: DeNami is giving away THREE $20 gift certificates to their website! They'll be giving away one gift certificate to a random blog hop participant (DT members not eligible) and then they'll also be giving away TWO gift certificates to TWO people who comment along the hop!
Well, you may already know that the DeNami Design rubber stamp lineup is just packed with Tasty Treats possibilities. (And if you didn't already know that, you should run, not walk, directly to the DeNami Design online shop to check out all of them!) I mean, there's an entire stamp category in the DeNami web store devoted to just the "Sweet Shoppe" stamps!! How yummy is that???
Now, I am a gal with a mammoth sweet tooth. I don't believe that I have ever met a cookie, cake, brownie, cupcake, pie, candy, or ice cream that I didn't like. And while a small sweet treat is often a highlight of my day, I'm also an equal-opportunity kind of gal. I like the "other" food group, too--you know, the savory one! So I thought that with my Tasty Treats project for this blog hop, I'd pay homage to one of my favorite savory treats (in fact, this is my top pick for a lunch go-with, and I eat it with my lunch several times each week): baby carrots with roasted red pepper hummus. YUM!!

I know, I know what you're thinking: "But hummus is made with chick peas! You're featuring the wrong kind of peas on this card!!" And of course, you are absolutely correct about that. But do you know what color chick peas are? Yeah, I can't describe it either. Whatever color that is, it can't possibly look as good as the beautiful spring greens I used along with the carrot orange on this card. (There's a reason that moms have for years been serving up that old veggie combo standby of peas and carrots at suppertime: it looks great on a plate!) Fab colors AND tasty treats--SCORE!

OK, and the fun part of this card is that it's an easel card (for a great tutorial, see here). So you can open it and stand it up like this:

I just couldn't resist adding a computer-generated sentiment: "PEAS be with you!" printed in the CK Limerick font. I figured this card would be great as a get-well card or for anyone who needs a littlepeas peace spread his or her way. :)
So, in case you are interested, the carrot and pea pod images from the DeNami Veggies Petit Four set played starring roles in this creation, with a supporting role played by the "for you" sentiment from DeNami Everyday Greetings Petit Four set. I pulled out my Stamp-A-Majig to place all those tiny carrots so precisely and brought my cute little veggies to life with colored pencils. That fun peapod-patterned paper comes from the Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety collection.
Before you hop off to your next stop on the blog hop, be sure to leave a comment here for a chance at some free DeNami products. Then skedaddle on over to visit the sweet and talented Tammy Hobbs at her Creating Somewhere Under the Sun blog for her creative take on Tasty Treats à la DeNami!
Thanks for stopping by today for a little slice of bliss!

I mean, there's an entire stamp category in the DeNami web store devoted to just the "Sweet Shoppe" stamps!!

I figured this card would be great as a get-well card or for anyone who needs a little
So, in case you are interested, the carrot and pea pod images from the DeNami Veggies Petit Four set played starring roles in this creation, with a supporting role played by the "for you" sentiment from DeNami Everyday Greetings Petit Four set.

Get Well Soon
Today's Ways to Use It challenge WT308 over on Splitcoast is "i HEART you," to use hearts anywhere on your project. Well, hearts aren't just for Valentine's Day! I decided to play along with this challenge by sending some love on a get well card.
I started by spraying some "Pink Sprinkles" Smooch Spritz onto snowstorm card stock to make a shimmery punched-out heart.
I added three scored lines beneath my sentiment & heart and called it a day. Quick and easy but, judging from the nearly 1000 views this card received on SCS today alone, effective. Clean and simple for sure!
I'm entering this card in these challenges:

A One-Layer Get Well
My friend Meredith (aka Crafty Math Chick on SCS) sent me a package at Christmas filled with a wonderful assortment of papercrafting goodies. One of the items she included was a beautiful (and quite large) Stampin' Up! rubber stamp (retired, I believe) called Stipple Gardenia. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for a one-layer card and couldn't wait to try it out. Here's what I came up with:
Meredith is now recuperating from some major surgery, so I thought this would make a perfect get-well card for her. I think she will enjoy seeing something that I made with one of her gifts! I also made a second identical card, which will go to my elderly aunt who is still recovering from hip surgery following a tumble she took right after Christmas.
Challenges I incorporated into the making of this card:
On Saturday evening, my "book group" (more on why that's in quotes HERE) got together for a swap party, based on the most excellent ideas outlined in a swap party article in Better Homes and Gardens Jan. 2010 issue. We did this last year, too, and both swap parties were a huge success!! The basic idea is that everyone brings some items in good condition that they no longer have need for (clothing, books, toys, craft items, baskets, games, cookware, jewelry, CDs, movies, or whatever) and then everyone has the chance to "shop" among the amassed treasures. (The BH&G article explains how it all works.) We have appetizers, drinks, deserts, and some friendly competition over a few of the more hotly contested items. I brought home some wonderful rectangular baskets (perfect for organizing my stamping supplies), two necklaces, three pairs of earrings, an only-worn-once pair of Nike sneakers for my daughter (just the right size!), and a digital alarm clock that we really needed for my son's bedroom. It was so much fun! I unloaded a bunch of stuff that we can't use any more and came home with some stuff that we can really use--without spending a penny!
I also discovered my new favorite appetizer: Archer Farms Feta & Roasted Red Pepper Dip.
This stuff ROCKS!! (Archer Farms is a Target brand.) One of my friends brought this delectable dip, served with Carr's Table Water Crackers, to the swap party, and I just couldn't keep away from it. Yum-MEE!! At the end of the evening, she sent the leftover dip home with me, and I have been enjoying it with crackers along with my warmed up black bean soup for lunch. I will be sad when both run out . . . but in the meantime, together these are my little slice of bliss.
Thanks for joining me today!

Tickets and Ceiling Tiles
You may have noticed tickets popping up in my cards recently. Last month I bought packages of perforated, two-part raffle tickets in five different colors--red, yellow, green, baby blue, and white-- at our local Dollar Tree. The tickets are all numbered, and they separate into a part that says "TICKET" and a part that says "Keep This Coupon." For some strange reason, I was giddy with delight at the prospect of using these in my paper creations! And they have been really fun. However, there are some problems with these tickets. The printing is often off-center, and there are weird streaks of other ink colors. Who cares for a raffle ticket, right? But when they're used as a design element in a paper creation, it's a different story and these little quirks become annoying. Plus, the primary-colored tickets can be a bit garish and difficult to coordinate with the palette of my ink and paper collection.
So, you can imagine how surprised and happy I was when I stumbled across one of the new products in Papertrey Ink's July release: Just the Ticket. Wow! There is a stamp set for making your own customizable tickets (imagine: in any color you want!) and a matching ticket border die that cuts out a strip of tickets and--get this--adds perforation lines between the the tickets! I don't have any die-cutting tools or dies or such in my small collection of stamping and papercrafting supplies. I've always been scared of the investment, both financially and storage-space-wise. But I think I may be in trouble now. :)
I wanted to share a quick card I made yesterday afternoon for the EtsyInspired Challenge. This week's source of Etsy store inspiration is Octavia & Brown, which stocks great handpicked vintage items for the home. I was inspired by this aqua vintage tin ceiling tile:
I just love the geometric design and had fun imagining how the patterns would all line up on a whole ceiling filled with these! I approximated the design by tracing around circle and oval cutting templates with a white gel pen on a square of baja breeze card stock. I tried to keep it clean and simple.
