LIVE: Animal Collective @ The Henry Fonda (9/18)
Let's be honest: After 3 straight days of sweating and being sweated on my massive crowds of people while listening to a massive amount of music on about, oh zero hours of sleep, I was in no condition to appreciate Animal Collective's supposedly magnificent, life-changing live show. I didn't throw the ever-menacing "supposedly" in there to be rude or discount the band's music (which, dudes, I like, love, c'mon now), but because it just didn't connect with me Tuesday night. It was fun, and the band sounded pretty great, but I wouldn't say it was one of my favorite live experiences. It's a shame, because Strawberry Jam is great, as is Panda Bear's amazing Person Pitch. I gotta get me some sleep before the Lucksmiths come to town tomorrow!
Oh yeah... the first opener, who I guess is some dude from Black Dice (edit: his name is Eric Copeland), was unlistenable. I don't think anyone was high enough to enjoy the guy's indecipherable cacaphony of noise (and come on, at an Animal Collective show, people are more than preeetty high)... maybe that one guy who passed out.

Brief Break From Posting...
Santa Barbara's own Matinee Records celebrates its 10th anniversary! You better be there, you!
So I'm absolutely fatigued from Austin City Limits, driving back to Santa Barbara to go to work tomorrow (only to drive back to LA to see Animal Collective tomorrow night!)... I'm gonna resume posting when I get back from Animal Collective on Wednesday at some point. It's gonna be a ridiculously busy week. Besides good ole AC, I'm gonna be seeing the Lucksmiths and the Guild League and Math and Physics Club and Maria and the Botticellis and Hoover Dan and Black Moth Super Rainbow all in Santa Barbara in the coming week. And classes! And resuming work at the newspaper. I'm getting tired just thinking about it all.
But the posting must go on! I promise. And I'm gonna update the SB Concert Calendar ASAP.
Another diversion: my little brother's entrusted me with the best task ever! He's finally got a computer to call his own, and with that, a brand new, fresh, empty blank slate of an iTunes library that I get to fill with all the goodies one could ever hope for. The classics, the newer stuff... it's kinda hard to know what to throw at someone who's never gotten into music at all before. I don't wanna overwhelm the kid and send him running to my sister and her Linkin Park anthology (just kidding, Emily!).
On the positive side, I have rediscovered my Elvis Costello obsession!
